I just added to the first post- seeing Barbult's use of the background, and seeing my test render using mine, if you want to post an example of a render using your background, feel free, or if you use someone's, feel free to show us. Could be fun! It will also help people get a good idea of what it will look like when actually being used.

These are all 1000 x 1000. This is Brick with interactive fill, Gaussian Blur 19. More coming. I'm playing for an hour or so.

So then I did Smoked Glass 40, then Smoked Glass 53. (The higher the number, the more "smoke" over the image. I am using white.)

I think it's neat that you can use Bricks to get a subtle dimple effect when it's combined with Gaussian Blur!

EDIT: Fortunately I was able to hit UNDO and get you the original. I didn't think about that until the next post. That way you can add your own effects to the bricks (and share with us if you want to.)

Brick, Interactive Fill, 1000 x 1000. Changing the Gaussian Blur.  It goes from 6, to 14, to 21. (Corel Photo Shop)

I'm giving you the original too so you can apply your own effects for your own use (and you can post them here for others, feel free to build off them. There's SO many effects I can't possibly do them all!)

This is the interactive fill, with Stone as the texture. The Smoked Glass was 20, 40, 50. I put the original with it, it's the same one as used with the brick but this keeps it all together for you.

Posting a small sample so you can see the textures. Love Stone!

I have a few to share.  I've been trying to come up with some backgrounds suitable for more masculine portraits.  I don't know if anyone would like these, but you can use them free for commercial use.  No credit needed.  I scaled them down to Novica's minimum size so these are all 719 x 809 at 72 dpi because I wanted to see what they look like at that size.  I think I might redo them at a larger size later, but these look great even scaled up.  I'll have to take them into DS and test them out once my current render is done.

And more.  I used some of Ron's Cracks and Ron's Scratches with these.

Here are a few I've made in the past - I generally do 3:4 ratio, so these are all 768 x 1024 px.  They started life as gradients, with various Ron's brushes over the top.

Knittingmommy- the red and yellow cracked one is neat!  MelanieL, my fav is the middle one, so many things going on with that one.

Yeah, I kind of like how that one turned out and I'm seriously thinking of going back in and doing a few variations of that one with different color gradients.

Okay, so will add some crackly textures of a different nature while Knittingmommy is thinking about the possibility of more colors on hers. (Hope you do some!)

Still at 1000 x 1000, this is Fill 3 (I am labeling all the gradients, so the plain ones can be easily referenced. So if you like this one, the green/blue, it's Fill 3.)

This is called Elephant Skin. The Elephant Skin settings in Corel Photo Paint were 44 and 236. The Gaussian Blur was 2, then 3.

The first one is Fill 3, no textures. Feel free to use and play with (and you can post back here if you'd like.)

Next, I'll add bubbles to these.

    Fill 3, Elephant Skin with Bubbles. Bubbles settings were 30 / 95 / 315.

    Gaussian Blur 6.5, then 10, then 17.

The first one is the bubbles without blur. There's so many possibilities if you add more textures to it! (Like linen or bricks, then blur it.)

Thanks, Novica. I like your elephant skin and the weird bubbly version - are all these patterns part of Corel Paint? (I just have Photoshop Elements)

  • KharmaKharma Posts: 3,171

Really like those bubbly textures Novica, I use Paintshop Pro and Photoshop CS2 and CS6, but have never seen any options that could create that texture.  Are there any effect to create a sparkly type background?

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,571

They're Corel Photo Paint, (not sure if there's a program called Corel Paint, so just being on the safe side.) It's under Effects>Textures>Bubbles.

I'll do a few more colors in both the Elephant Skin and with bubbles added.

Kharma, sparkly as in little glimmers? I'll show you folks a few of the things Corel Photo Paint can do. Back in a few.

Fill 1 (the blues shown earlier) with:

    Cubist, setting 2/28

    Impressionist, setting 78/42/40

Palette Knife, setting 11/5  and  50/8

All of these change drastically when settings are changed, I just showed Palette Knife but Impressionist and Cubist change a lot too. Click to enlarge, these are 1000px.

Fill 1 (the blues shown earlier) with:

Cobblestone. The settings are for Rough / Size (of the pattern) / Grout Width. The first ones have ZERO rough, which shows up like stucco.

First image: Rough 0, Size 7, Grout Width 10.

    Second:   0 / 32 / 16

Third: 20 (Rough) and same as second (32/16)

    The light was angle 195.

CLICK TO ENLARGE, ITS A BEAUTIFUL PATTERN WHICH WILL SHOW UP IN RENDERS.
