Well, today the job sucks a bit more than usual. That doesn't sound fun at all. I am glad to be free of having to do stuff I don't like doing just to earn a living. OK, we don't have much free money now, but we are actually much happier having downsized to this little 2 bed cottage in a friendly area, not far to go to be in a real rural area and free of the traffic fumes from living in an urban area and working in London.

Similarly, I'm living on a fixed but very limited retirement income and have to watch every penny I spend but I have an adequate apartment, a well running 13 year old car, and walking access to postoffice and groceries and even one restaurant if desperate. I limit my car travels to one tank of gas a month to go to the nearest city for doctors, restaurants, shopping and movies. If I'm careful I can buy a few things and can add to my savings and can even splurge on things now and then and even a long car trip every few years. I used have a professional engineer's six-figure salary and couldn't save a penny. I wish I'd been as careful with my money then as I am now. But despite lack of gobs of discretionary cash I'm as relaxed and untroubled as I've ever been in my life.

We too have shops within walking distiance, the only catch is you literally go down to the shops, so it's uphill all the way back. The last bit, a footpath is less than 500 yds long but rises more than 50 feet. It has a hand rail down the centre to help those who need it LOL

Our car is more than 20 years old (1994 model), but as it is a Toyota Carina it is as solid as a rock.

...as I dn't have a car nor drive, I have to stay in the city and that is getting more and more difficult as rents here are skyrocketing out of sight and there is little interest form the devlopers here in building low/fixed income housing. My only "pension" is Social Security. Never earned enough to sock money away for retirement and company sponsored 401K's are for the most part a scam.

It's sad when the only viable option seems to be playing the state lotto.

I swear for a while, sigh, and empty remaining crumbs and fill the bowl.

And today, while doing weekly groceries, I bought spray meant to deter cats and dogs from going to certain spots and spray the entire goddamn server rack, TV stand, TV and some other places. It smells awful and certainly deters me as well while it is fresh.

But. It has made Carisma eye the said places with deep suspicion for now.

Isn't it fun being a Kitty's human The bigger one of my two has found that if she crashes the bedroom door heavily enough it will swing and hit the bedside cabinet (small cottage mo small bedroom) making a satisfactory bump to wake up female human. Meanwhile her sister sneaks to the window and adjusts the blackout curtains so that light gets into the room, shining directly into humans eyes when they open them.

...where I live they got a third dog.

Now I am primarily a cat person, always have been. Since the new canine's arrival, it has been a bark and yap fest every day (the latter by the small dog that has been here for a while). Gets hard to concentrate sometimes and I am often woken up earlier than I want to be. Not very fond of loud noise, never was, particularly that which produces harsh upper harmonics (yeah, you'd never get me to a thrash metal concert without those earmuffs the ground crew at airports wear).

OK, I can handle events like fireworks displays or airshows as those happen only a few times a year and most of the loud noise is at a lower frequency. However, this daily canine pandemonium is beginning to grate on me. Hence I have been spending more time away (which is why I have not been here every day recently) which also means spending more of my meagre cash than I like to for sitting at coffee shops, quiet pubs, & such just to get a little peace.

The little "yap dog" is by far the worst of the three and, as he was here longer (the new dog is also male), he is of course taking on the "Alpha Male" role seeing the new arrival as a threat to his "domain" (the other dog is a nine year old female pit bull who is very sweet). I cannot understand how such a small animal can be so bloody loud. Since this is an older Victorian house with hard floors, high ceilings, and such, the little monster's yapping tends to be magnified, particularly in the area outside my room door as there is a large open stairwell just off to the right. The new dog doesn't bark all the time but when he does it sets the small one off for several minutes which in turn encourages him to bark more thus prolonging the annoying exchange (wash, rinse, repeat) until they are separated on different floors.

What is also scary is they will sometimes run up or down the stairs while I am going up or down and have nearly tripped me up on a couple occasions. Not good with my stiff unsteady joints and achy bones.

I'd almost welcome the antics of the cats in the above posts over what I have been dealing with the last week

Crikey, just had another "barka-yapa-thon" outside my door a few moments ago that nearly caused me to jump....at almost 23:00.

Help me Megabucks Lotto, you're my only hope...

No, light-year = (distance/time) * time = distance

light-meter would be (distance/time) * distance = distance^2/time, which doesn't have any useful application AFAIK.

WRONG! A light-meter is very useful for professional photographers or for people with very old or dumb cameras.

Yeah, when I got my first 35mm SLR with a built in light metre, I felt I had stepped into the future. Still have my handheld metre.

Better stay away from the strong stuff for a while I still got caffeine shakes from a coupla days ago, been running on empty I guess :) It all sounds positive for you right now and I guess adaptation will be your friend, is 'sposed to be a natural force so hopefully you won't have to sweat it too much. Was looking around at the huge variety of mobility aids people use in the city here it sure has changed the past few years, motorised stuff has been miniaturised I guess but there are still a few swish looking canes in use, think I'd like one of those remington single-shot canes from back in the day :)

My dad used one of these when he was on "I've Got A Secret" back in the 1950s. I got to play around with it and loved it.

...well our mini "heat wave" is over and back to more seasonal temperatures here. Still more than 10º above the average but slowly slipping back down over the next couple days.

Thursday and yesterday were the earliest we ever experienced 80+º temperatures here. The highs on both days were warmer than the normal for July/August.

...hmmmm, snow in Wales and The Great Lakes again. 19º in Stevens Point WI last night, 73º here today seems just right.
