Maybe this is wrong, but it's what someone who had actually had field experience told me.
As someone who has been in GIS for over 20 years (and has supported NUMEROUS property tax agencies in many States) most Property Assessment orgs went to LAT/LONG for boundaries some time ago. Most of these were supported by Aerial Photography and/or Satellite imagery. There are still lots of registries that list "the old oak beside the creek split by the large pointed boulder" (yes, that was actually on a deed) but few, if any, are used for any practical purpose. Most licensed surveyors use highly accurate GPS if there are any resurveys done.
Given that there appears to be no way to upgrade to 4.9 *without* agreeing to DAZ Connect -- because you *can't* simply download the upgrade from your product library and install it yourself -- I'll probably tuck whatever ConnectOnly freebies are offered into my account. *Eventually* I am going to need to upgrade to 4.9, and will be able to get them then. By then, they will probably no longer be free.
I don't like this situation one little bit. I don't *like* having to put all my content into one library, and I refuse to do it. But if 4.9 will recognize my old content libraries *as well as* whatever new one it's going to want for encrypted content, I can probably stand to have a bunch of random, unrelated content in its own separate library.

4.9 doesn't affect, reorganize or delete any of your Content Library folders, and when you install via DIM or manual download the products will be added there just as they were in 4.8. The Content Library tab looks exactly the same as in 4.8.
4.9 adds a new library called My Connect Library but nothing will be in there unless you install via Connect. "My Connect Library" doesn't have user-facing folders (i.e. you can't see them in the Content Library tab). Content installed in Connect is intended to be accessed via Smart Content, but you can still access it in the Content Library tab under the "Products" and "Categories" sections at the bottom.

A canoe I can not, but thanks a lot. It was nice, but you see, encrypted is not for me.
A canoe I can do, so thanks from me, too! It's free, so I'll get it and see. It is encrypted, but I'll take the chance. It's into the cart without a second glance.
Will you put it in your cart? Can it make amazing art? Will you get from DAZ3D? Will you post for all to see?

Yep... I don't care if its "FREE"... DAZ Connect DRM Encryption makes this a "MUST AVOID" for me. They can rub that Magic Lamp all they want and "MAKE A WISH" that this DRM BS of theirs is going to work! I hope an animated blue genie pops out and sings a delightful little shanty about how they are driving their customers away!!
I have picked up two freebie canoes from other sources recently, that look very similar to these, so I am wondering if I should bother with them at all, particularly as I am still on 4.8.
Another one I'd like, but won't buy since it's Encrypted-Connect-Only.....
(And to all the ones having to file support tickets for returns.....From now on, don't check out without checking EVERY item in your cart. You know the old adage, "Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice....")
Yes. This exactly. *nods* I always check the available install types before even looking at the product promos, let alone adding to the cart. If I don't see a Manual Install, I dont' even bother to look beyond the main image that displays on the product page.
And in this case, it's too bad. Because the set looks like a really nice one, and I would normally have snatched it up right away as I have quite a lot of uses for boats and kayaks and canoes like these.
But another "Encrypted Only" freebie, so... pass. Again. *shrugs*

I just realised that the kayak I have is not free, but from Poser World (but given you can get their 3000 or so models for a one month subscription for around 20$, they are pretty close to being free IMHO)
The whole point of encrypted freebies it to get people to buy into the encryption. It won't hurt you. I have DRM on some of the books in my e reader.
But, as the owner of ebook publisher Smashwords put it: encryption treats your customers as if they were criminals. He doesn't use it.
Back in the day Walmart had people searching your shopping bags when you left the store. I stopped going there. I never stole from one of their stores, and disliked being treated as if I would. When they stopped the practice, I started going back.
I haven't stopped buying from Daz. I would rather not. I have not registered for Daz connect. If they go full DRM, I may leave.

I just ordered the new freebee "Make a Wish Props".
But I still have 4.8 due to the well known security incompatibilities. Now that freebee is only installable by Conect.
I'm fine with encrypted freebies being released each week.
I'm not fine with them refusing to clearly mark them (no, that one line on the product page does not count.)
Agree; folks need to see if it works for them. 4.9 beta works great with the PostgreSQL not installed and hidden to avoid downloading by mistake; the annoying popup telling me it won't work with connect is actually sort of useful - but still annoying noise-wise.
Well, I bit the bait (again) and tried to download manually only to find it is yet another lure to the dark side. But I'm not going to bother making out a ticket. If it's gotten to the point where I have to research the product to see if it will be compatible with the way I buy then I just won't buy ANYTHING unless it's already a familiar object on my wishlist. Letters and trouble tickets to marketing do no good. Only sales figures matter. My impulse buying is officially on hold. Sorry PAs but swimming in the lake with alligators may be hazardous to your health.
Weeellllll, it is ALWAYS a good idea to read the product page ... and the Encryption is stated there clearly and not hidden, so it is not that hard to evade Encrypted content ...

Agree. I'm at the point of always clicking "PC+" now. No new releases. No convoluted sales that require you to stand on your head and click your mouse with your big toe (or similar nonsensical requirements).

Also, why did my username suddenly get _57253d0671 added to it?
You have been activated. You will receive your mission briefing via email. If you are killed or capture, DAZ will disavow all knowledge of you, your pets, your mission and most things in general. This message will self destruct in... Well, as long as it takes you to destroy it... there is a sledgehammer out by the mailbox, please hurry.

I have no issue with using the encrypted freebies. (and they work just fine I might add although its not the most intuitive thing to actually FIND them in connect) I just won't BUY encrypted products. My whole issue with encrypted is that I may lose access to it at some point. If I lose access to the freebies, its not a big deal because they are free. If I lose access to something I paid for, I am going to be extremely irate.

Wow, its's a very nice set! This is the Kayak and paddle.
Lighting and background are from No Emotion HDRs.
It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0.

Am not happy.

Nice Kayaks. I remember when free was free of encrypt. I would buy this DO for $10, maybe more if it was a DIM install....

Just going to stick this image with a couple of suggestions on store icons here too since it's relevant.

Thank you! It does have it's upsides being a lifetime member of Poserworld ... :o)
If it hasn't been said: you can't use it in 4.8.

Because it sorts correctly in an alpha sort.

That's why YYYY-MM-DD is the ISO standard, and not MM-DD-YYYY or DD-MM-YYYY. Dashes, not periods or commas.
That last format never makes sense.
Makes sense to every UK citizen
Japan uses year month day (biggest to smallest) The last format is smallest to biggest which makes much more sense than randomly arranging them.
You are Number Six.
