Ruth Morehead’s distinctive style — often featuring whimsical, hand‑drawn characters, floral motifs, and a warm, child‑friendly aesthetic — has been widely reproduced and adapted, but whether this counts as “copying” depends on the context.
Reproductions and adaptations
Her work is common in vintage and collectible markets, with reproductions appearing as framed prints, cross‑stitch patterns, iron‑on transfers, and even figurines. For example, Etsy lists numerous “vintage Ruth Morehead” prints, kits, and merchandise, often sold as inspired by her originals Etsy. These are typically mass‑produced and not considered copyright infringement because they are not exact, original works by her.
Copyright and style imitation
Copyright law protects specific works, not the general style. If someone recreates her style but creates an original piece, it’s generally not infringement art-and-see.com. However, making an exact copy of her work without permission would be illegal. In the broader art world, copying another artist’s style is common and often seen as part of the creative process, though it can be controversial if done without attribution or compensation Dazed+1.
Art forgery vs. homage
Art forgery is when someone deliberately fakes a work to pass it off as another artist’s, often for profit Wikipedia. This is a legal offense. Morehead’s work has not been widely reported as forged, but like many vintage artists, her designs have been adapted by others for commercial use.
Bottom line
Yes — her art has been reproduced and adapted by many artists and businesses, but these are usually inspired reinterpretations or mass‑produced items, not illegal copies. If you see her work reproduced, it’s likely either a licensed reprint, a homage, or a commercial adaptation rather than a direct copyright violation.
I will check out Grok!! I just paid another month of Chat GPT.
I actually re-phrased what I wanted. I guess because I told ChatGPT "to lay in front of this box," a caution was made.
I have the respect that!!!
So, I was able to get what I wanted.
Try this, if a request gets rejected, ask the AI to generate or revise the prompt you just used, or a completely new one, so that it will pass the guardrails it was rejected for. Start a new chat and then use the prompt the chatgpt generated. It works for me about 50-75% of the time. It's also a good coach for writing prompts in general.
I personally have not found grok to be not much tolerant than chatgpt or gemini.

Excellent advice!! I couldn't understand Styles that I really liked. So, I would show Chat GPT some images that I liked and asked to describe the style. That is really fun.
Then, I have seen something within an piece of art that I liked and, again, asked Chat GPT to describe it. I keep many notes on styles and things to say...except for...lay beside...that was bad LOL
Many times I have had to type "Stop" because I hit enter before I typed everything. I mark up errors on images. If I tell Chat "where I circled in blue," for example, it goes much quicker.
Sometimes, after working 2 weeks on something, I get tired. This is one of those things.
I decided enough was enough.
You can see the final after Chat GPT corrected some things, the final render I did for 5 hours, and the front view of the Daz Studio scene.
There are SO MANY things wrong in the final. I want to go on to something else!!!
My process of making the dolls, signs, various nic-naks, etc was getting ideas in Chat GPT, then have Meshy AI make it. Sometimes the props were done well and sometimes not. Then, to texture them.
Then, I used Blender to disseminate each prop. I use a percentage of 15 for everything. Then, if there are more than one item I had Meshy AI make at one time, I use Carrara to cut the props apart.
I do not know how to create UV maps nor do I know how to assign material zones. I DO know how to make textures, but not if the items just mentioned have not been done.

in DAZ studio itself with the geometry editor tool selected you can select polygons and assign a new surface, and add more selected polygons to that surface
you can also use it to cut up props
as for UV mapping
I cannot do it in just one program
I use at least 3, none of them Blender which is likely my problem
my 3 are Zbrush, Carrara and Ultimate Unwrap3D
am continually jumping between them as each can do different things the others cannot
again, if I had the patience to learn to do it in Blender, it likely would be better
Meshy3D and Hunyuan models, Zproject is my friend after creating a better UV for the mesh, any UV is a better one than the AI generated UV
I just let Zbrush's UV master unwrap it most of the time

...for the noodle poodle I used DA's Dream Up AI generator. It's pretty basic compared to the mainstream AI image generators, and prompt length is capped.
This is about why and how people use AI. If you don't then this isn't the thread for you, please don't try to turn it into a discussion of AI's putative evils or lack of validity.
Thank you for this reminder.
The main reason I migrated to AI. It's because I'm recently retired and I simply no longer wish to spend time enduring the vicissitudes of animation and illustration creation with traditional 2D/3D tools.
I have fantasy and science fiction stories I'd like to tell and using AI allows me to skip straight ahead to the visualizing my story ideas for it instead of toiling away with things like modeling UV mapping rigging ,hand key framing cleaning up mocap etc, etc.
I have migrated completely over from 3D to 2D animation and graphic novels./comics. I'm starting my own small comic book publishing company and so far. I have 2 titles published on Amazon and recently hand some hard copy prints made of my second graphic novel.
Oh, WendyLuvsCatz, you post was wonderful! I really need your advice!! I want to learn these things. Every time I ask MeshyAI to change the color of something, it costs me points. However, the texture map is a complete mess and even ChatGPT has trouble re-texturing something.

wolf359 What a dream come true for you! AND to enjoy this new journey in retirement years.
I griped and bitched about my job for 37 years. Now, I only dream about it. I took pride in it. I loved it.
So, my art gives me a purpose in life AND fills a dream I have had forever.
Some of you might know this, however, when I was young, I would try to draw those "1960's art school ads" examples. LOL Google that :)
In my view, true 3D art should be a positive cycle. Taking platforms like DAZ as an example: 3D modeling artists create models > I purchase the models to create 2D artwork > Readers like the work and give praise or rewards > I am motivated to continue creating and purchasing models > Modeling artists receive compensation and continue to release high-quality models.
The current trend is that AI companies offer subscription services; someone subscribes and generates an image > a reader likes the work and gives feedback > that person continues to subscribe to the AI service > the AI company continues to expand.
Future predictions: AI companies will offer subscription services > audience subscription services will generate a highly customized, complete set of amazing comics or videos with a single click > AI companies will continue to make money and gain huge profits.
Look at what's missing from this change. I believe that artistic creation should primarily be the result of one's own efforts. Using any technology to assist in the creation process is not a problem (provided that the technology is legally copyrighted, for example, people should not use pirated 3D modules). However, assistance is ultimately just assistance. AI should not be the main focus; otherwise, there is no need for creators to exist.
3D art or digital graphics inherently use computer-generated elements to some extent, so I'm not against using AI. The question is where it's used. However, many creative platforms currently prohibit AI from being monetized, and the reason is obviously obvious.
AI is a powerful technology and it's definitely not just about generating garbage. Just look at the difference between AI a few years ago and AI now, and you'll know that it will eventually evolve into something impeccable. I'm sure this article doesn't criticize AI or incite fear. If you want to delete it, then delete it. I'll just stay silent from now on.
A generative AI site I am familiar with, just introduced an API interface where you can hook up a localized AI to the AI site, to produce generative AI pictures, that can be posted on the site!

"...something impeccable." That is more than scary and it's going to happen. For good AND for bad, it's going to happen. You will NOT be able to tell whether it's AI or real.
I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with AI, I think.
Social media is horrible AND wonderful.
Kids are bullied...
AND, for instance, my husband reconnected with his family after 20 years of not speaking to them. He learned his brother had passed away on Facebook. He had NEVER been on Facebook before. Then, we were able to have many wonderful visits with his sisters. Then, one of them died of cancer 3 years later. I really got to know her and love her.
This is the only forum that I have to talk about the thing the makes me so very happy. I NEED Daz3d, the forums, the products and Daz Studio. You have NO idea what I went through both physically and mentally 3 years ago with stomach surgery. The after effects of the anethesia were awful. I have lost so many memories and my husband has to tell me about things. I didn't lose my major memories...just little things.
Well, I want you guys to know that Stonemason actually made something that I asked for and it was done in only a few months. It was made EXACTLY like I wanted!!!
Well, I want you guys to know that Stonemason actually made something that I asked for and it was done in only a few months. It was made EXACTLY like I wanted!!!
Even though I'm relatively new here, I know Stonemason is a great person and his work is excellent. This is what I mean by a positive cycle; everything has two sides, and I can only try to choose the good side. AI is very helpful in correcting parts of the image that can't perfectly reproduce physical effects. I tried for many days in DAZ STUDIO and still couldn't achieve the results that AI produced in a few seconds, which was really frustrating (maybe I should learn to export to other 3D software to solve this problem). But for commercial reasons and artistic principles, I could only choose to use Photoshop to handle these issues in the end (of course, the results still can't compare to AI).
This reminded me that I should leave a comment on Stonemason's wishing post.
...I have a huge library of his sets, over 101, some no longer available. When I opened his store page and turned off "Hide Items I Own" The number of of products increased by 125% (not including the discontinued items). There are also threenewer sets currently on my wishlist.
with AI, accept or reject it, it's not going away, the genie is out of the bottle. So I am of the mindset that I will use it but not let it control or replace my creativity. Which is why I try to have as much input as possible, not just writing prompts.
I use 3D renders and my own photos to edit, train, or to be animated by it.
Not a blank canvas.
To me it is an enhancement to, not a replacement for my own art, such as it
Using premade models to create my art is really not that different
and the people who made those models still get paid
...as a tool within existing software to assist a process, like denoising, to assist in set/scene "blocking", or creating a specialised filters, AI can serve a valuable purpose. In fact I see a lot of "practical" uses for it. Take for example, controlling traffic signal timing by basing it on time of day, traffic volume, and traffic flow (the city I live in is notorious for some of the worst traffic light timing I've ever seen - and I don't even drive).
That said
The other part that concerns me is the subscription model most AI (as well as 2D/3D) software has moved to, I've paid for my Daz content, it is always there. I don't have to keep paying a monthly fee to continue using it. Working online is also impacted by connation quality and issues that may affect it (like outages and heavy usage periods)
As illustrated further above, I've played around with generative AI a bit and found it to be, well, "amusing" in a way (I even had to do a NVIATWAS piece that I cannot post here). However I'm not about to toss aside the thousands I've invested and worked hard for to pursue what is a relaxing and admittedly, at times, challenging yet satisfying "hobby".
Just wanted you to know that your posts about AI, specifically chatgpt, have helped me immensely. I was just about to give up on DAZStudio but then I asked chatgpt about different problems I was having with DAZStudio and it actually listed a whole lot of helpful information on how to resolve those issues. It even volunteered to help me learn more about IRAY which I have really been struggling with. So now I am attempting to close out my old 3delight scenes and start new scenes with 4.24. All depends on if I can get ahold of 4.23 which I have requested. So I see a future of continuing with DAZStudio and chatgpt to do what I love doing. Thanks for this topic.
I use AI to walk through a story idea (one that I already fully developed and a humorous idea I floated around. AI punched holes in some ideas, made suggestions, and offer concerns. For example, one storym fully developed involved college kids running afould of a cult on mainland US (Lovecraft horror). We stripped the gratuitous violence and sexual tones, and AI helped me shift it to "you know what happens" but you never see it. THEN the question came up, if they are on the mainland, why not just drive away? At first we plugged those holes with forced solutions until we moved it to an island, accessible by ferry. The weather did my work... fog? Ferrry cancelled
A hew story (a dark comedy) has avatars of Nyarlathotep, Shub Niggurath, and Yidhra as female college students, who sprt of know they are gods bit not the full extent. We play on what each deity does, but we never show what actually happens. For example, I joked with AI... The avatar of Nyarlathotep, a red-head 18-year-old, deciding the day before to go on a roadtrip with no plans. and doing the driving... Yeah, might be slapstick to some, but I can push ideas, and explain why, and AI can counter...
Long story short, I use AI to generate the idea, see if the characters would be relatable, if it's true horror (blood and guts), I'll call it out, but what was to be an adult style horror shifted to "who can you trust?" Type story..
I lurk on this thread and find it fascinating to learn how GenAI is used in an artful way. (No p0rn here, no attempt either to trick the LLM into rendering something goofy.) I only found reason to chime in now because of that remark of yours above. While I don't use GenAI to render images, I do rely professionally on it for coding.
It used to be I'd post questions on software forums, and help out whenever I can too. But with the rising sophistication of LLMs as coding assistants, I find there's really little need to participate in these online forums anymore. Much like your observation above -- no need to ask the "wonderful" Daz members, right? With GenAI we can cut to the chase and get what we need.
This outcome is both a blessing and a curse. As a creative buddy, GenAI is efficient, polite and, with the right prompts, so useful in supplying what we need. Better than people do, in fact! But doesn't the resulting pullback from human interaction bode ill for online communities? Returning to the example of programming forums, LLMs were trained on everything people shared there: not just code but also helpful suggestions and insightful explanations. If chatbots become the default go-to source for information, won't that lead to decline of forums? In turn, won't that lead to a loss of original knowledge, the wellspring of training data for GenAI?
It's hard not to see a downward spiral. Perhaps, at worst, after these forums wither away, GenAI can only turn out information and ideas that are stale. It's an intriguing possibility, a worrisome outcome that people in the technology community who engineer and train LLMs have raised. GenAI is amazing because it has trawled the web, tapping into online communities and learning from them. Maybe the day will come when there aren't sufficient number of active communities from which GenAI can draw from anymore.
In any case, we're still in the early days of Generative AI. Things are good, and I'm pleased to see that users find it very useful.

This, exactly this, is why I have started working with AI. I use a 13 year old core I5 computer, 6Gb GTX 1060, and 16 Gb ram, and it sometimes chokes on trying to balance 42 different 4-8K textures, strand based hair, dForce, etc... just to try and do a new new render. I can, however, take a older 3Delight V4 character render like Marie for V4 by Belladzines, pose her and update to Iray, and then use AI to get results shown. I've been finding similar results for G2F, etc...
I've been using the last 4.24 update just before eliminating 3Delight.
(Shout out to @Belladzines for making such a great character!)

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="
title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I am very confused. I will watch this again. :(
"...something impeccable." That is more than scary and it's going to happen.

I hope your post isn't removed.
I NEED to know what you guys think about things.
Well, I want you guys to know that Stonemason actually made something that I asked for and it was done in only a few months. It was made EXACTLY like I wanted!!!
So, "Product Suggestions" is looked at.
Please make simple scenes like these! - Daz 3D Forums
I am so, so excited about this product!!
Stonemason listens!!!
OK back to our regularly scheduled thread....
with AI, accept or reject it, it's not going away, the genie is out of the bottle. So I am of the mindset that I will use it but not let it control or replace my creativity. Which is why I try to have as much input as possible, not just writing prompts.
I use 3D renders and my own photos to edit, train, or to be animated by it.
Not a blank canvas.
To me it is an enhancement to, not a replacement for my own art, such as it
Using premade models to create my art is really not that different
and the people who made those models still get paid
.
...as a tool within existing software to assist a process, like denoising, to assist in set/scene "blocking", or creating a specialised filters, AI can serve a valuable purpose.
Is it done with clothing as well?
Jan,
Just wanted you to know that your posts about AI, specifically chatgpt, have helped me immensely.
I want to do a motorcycle scene with a woman and man and (LOL) a motorcycle.
I have this outfit: NyX Dark Mist ReduX for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Females | Daz 3D
which I am just in love with. If I were back in the 90's, I would wear this!!!
I, also, have several motorcycle products, which are really pretty.
Then, I purchased one sexy man, MSO Anthony HD for Genesis 9 | Daz 3D
I had to wait for Anthony to go on sale, but I did. I think he is one of the most handsome men I have ever seen!!!
Anywho, I don't have an outfit for Anthony that would go along with Dark Mist. Or, at least I didn't think I did.
I asked ChatGPT to help me find some outfits and this was the reply:
https://chatgpt.com/share/6a2f076e-fd00-83ea-a35f-13ebf52fbcc1
So, I am going to kitbash an outfit. I really have a ton of things from M4, G2M, G3M, G8M and G9M.
ChatGPT will look everywhere to help find an outfit.
I used to ask the wonderful Daz members in the forums to help me find outfits. I don't have to do that any longer!!!
I use AI differently...
Jan_Scrapper,
I lurk on this thread and find it fascinating to learn how GenAI is used in an artful way.
Cheers!
