Some of the reasons I use AI to enhance my Daz Studio renders:
1. I cannot get anyone to make the clothes or the props I want. (This is lately, I want to say. Many, many people made me custom clothes years ago. Mada, EvilInnocense, Roylo, and others. I thank you so much!)
2. I cannot afford to get all of the hair or clothes or props that I need for my project.
3. I don't have a ton of Photoshop talent.
4. My computer is 9 years old and NOT a gaming computer. Daz Studio crashes because of lack of power.
5. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I'm 70 years old and sometimes working in Daz Studio trying to add several decorations to something is very difficult to get the angles, etc. right.
6. Many others, I just cannot remember more.
I use Ron's brushes to enhance my work, I use HDRI images for backgrounds...I use Chat GPT to make images of things to add to my renders.
What is true 3d Art?
No post work?
I really want to know.

Don't put too much stock on internet opinions. I can remember when using 3DS Max and not Maya got my renders devalued on the professional 3D Artist web site.
It is really disheartning to have that happen.
You work so hard on your art and it's devalued.
My family still thinks all I have to do is to put a character on the screen and dress her and that's it :(
You aren't the problem. AI isn't the problem. The problem is slop. You appreciate the work. You use AI tastefully, thoughtfully, selectively. (I assume.)
Slop is when someone puts in a prompt, clicks "generate 100 images", and then posts all 100 images without a thought for if any of them are "decent".
I don't use AI. I generally don't like AI for all sorts of reasons. But Slop is the problem. I'm not rendered apoplexic by post work, AI or not. AI isn't for me.
It is unfortunate you bear the burden of all slop that came before and will come after.
If Sturgeon were alive today, he's have said 99.9999% of everything is crud.
You are so right about the posts of a TON of images and some being "Slop!!!"
This is abolustely irritating! I certainly do NOT look at them AND I do NOT appreciate them.
I hate that term "slop" for AI, especially since those that hate AI use it often for ANY AI. While i agree there are way to many with no creative bone in their body who create a ton of AI generations and then feel the need to post ALL of them like they accomplished something, the same can be said for 3D work when a user just loads assets, clicks and renders.
I use AI daily and it's hard sometimes to find the right image to post where I post, because what apeals to me doesn't always apeal to others and if I have several images with slight variations in looks, poses, lighting, etc, then posting those 3 or 4 will appeal to a larger group.
I agree with the sentiment to create what pleases you, no one else. It shouldn't matter what others think. My sister was indifferent to AI. Having never used it and just listening to all the naysayers on the socials and the web. I showed her some of what I can do with it and other capabilities and she's a fan of it now and using it herself.
Posting 3 or 4 as you say you do is a lot of restraint compared to most people who generate 100 images and post 80 of them. You may not be the problem. But you suffer the fallout from slop.
The slop is the lack of editing by people posting AI without thought. The AI itself isn't slop. It's the lack of editing by people who post just anything the AI spits out.
Here is, what everybody seems to ignore.
There are two kinds of AI use.
Generative AI:
It creates "art"
examples:
"Make me a nice beach"
the AI creates you a beach. It will be nice, but not your art, for you have given only the basic parameters.
the rest is done by the AI based on its internet "eperience".
"Make my bad render a nice render"
The AI will post-process your render in a way the majority have favoured renders.
On the other hand there are simple AI tools, that help, where things get difficult or nearly impossible the conventional way.
examples:
"Add realistic micro motions to my character animation."
or:
"Build a highly realistic Eifel tower 3d model for me"
Notice that this is different from the beach prompt,
because there is only one way to have the Eifeltower right, based on the requested detail level.
the AI could use the construction maps, which doesn't include artistic freedom.
The model would either be wrong or correct.
Cloth simulation or Soft body physics would be, where AI could be useful, because it is about adding physics to your scene,
for there is no artistic freedom in physics.
In animations: why not rendering only 4 keyframes per second and let the AI generate the missing 26 keyframes?
People are bad in abivalent thinking. they either semm to hate or love AI.
My opinion on this is, that I absolutely do not like to have Generative AI, that kind of AI, that we used to laugh at as the "Make Art" button.
I do not like AI help agents either, but more for the same reasons I don't like chat bots.
AI tools, that help a process, that does not interact with some kind of creativity is o.k. to me.
I don't mind AI providing it has a useful purpose like said above. However, most AI is very intrusive or at best, inaccurate. It also seems that the vast majority of AI is being used for devious purposes, such as creating obscene images of real people and data harvesting. The latter is the main reason I will not have AI on any of my machines, I simply do not trust it or the company providing it.
Oh, the bad things being done with AI is to no end AND will never be. Using real people for obscene images and data harvesting is just lower than low!!! :(
I am so afraid that one of my grandchildren is going to somehow be dupped into thinking their mom or dad said it's ok to go home with someone else. And that someone else knows how to make a realistic AI voice of mom or dad. People are being tricked every day with AI. I have talked with my son and DIL about this. They tell me they are taking precautions. I hope so!! I don't know what to tell a child who might get a phone call thinking the caller is his mom or dad.
My husband who doesn't know a lot about computers and such, asked me how do I know whether something is AI.
One way is something is too perfect. However, sometimes I have to do a double take.
My husband and I will sit in the living room and discuss a movie and the actors in it. He will ask how old an actor is or who did he/she marry.
Of course, I have good old "Alexa" to answer me with just a little call out to her :)
Then, I have it in the car, as well.
I was in a restaurant the other day and had to actually look up something on my phone to to find out about it. I could have called out "Siri" however everyone would have looked at me LOL
AI in all of its forms, good and bad, is here to stay and will only get worse...or better depending on who is asking.

OTHERS will probably appreciate it more if more of your own work and less AI help is used, but ultimately you should work for yourself.
If you try to work to impress others, however... less AI and a description of the tools is always a good idea.
A good interaction with AIs can enhance almost any result. NOT doing that should serve a purpose. In an art CONTEST it makes sense. If the result is what counts, do not limit yourself.
I have seen beautiful art done with AI and I have seen some, that made me want to kick my monitor.
I think it's sad that the whole world loses some 'innocence' every day because of the actions of a very small number of evil people. These days everything seems to be 'weaponised', including AI. For every person doing research to improve things, there seems to be someone else waiting to turn it into something to make things worse, but I don't want to stray into politics. AI could be a wonderful thing, and do a lot for humanity ( and I'm sure it does in some areas ) the problem is humanity, we are like the scorpion in the fable of the scorpion and the frog.
Problem is we're also the frog.
As I said above, AI isn't the actual issue. It's the lack of experience with doing the work. To get good results takes work. If someone is using AI to entertain their circle of friends, one of them is going to say "Tim, we saw the joke the first few times. We don't need 100 images." Trouble is too many people don't even do that much editing.
Do you? I really couldn't care less.
If the art that you produce entertains you and the people you show/sell it to, that's all that matters. Who cares if some self-appointed expert declares that it isn't "true 3D art"?
Personally, I struggle to produce generative AI images because I'm used to the level of control I get from Daz. Producing an image from a text prompt is like typing whilst wearing boxing gloves. That said, it's a tool in the box, to be used when I deem it appropriate.
Each person will probably have a different opinion of it. 3d art can be
imo, Life is too short, do the art that makes you happy. :)
I bounce my human-made art back and forth with ai for exploration and entertainment value. It's largely uncharted territory, and to me that's fun.

I agree with everything you said. I don't get defective AI renders, because I use a quality AI site (OpenArt.ai). I have to pay for every render I create; therefore I can’t afford to create 100 images of the same thing. I use a lot of DAZ 3D in my AI renders.

I really started getting into it with my gallery work called "A Formal Affair." A Formal Affair | Daz 3D
I was really upset because I couldn't get the outfit to Dforce in a pretty way.
So, I asked Chat GPT to make the outfit of my character look more natural. And off we went, making EVERYTHING prettier.
I had dozens of pieces of 2d images to make that piece you see in the AI altered version.
I uploaded my original version to show all of the things that were wrong. I couldn't use LAMH on the cat because Daz Studio continued to lock up and then move at a snail's pace when I tried.
It was awful.
So, again, I asked Chat GPT to make fur on my cat. So much better.
I DO understand stolen art, I really do. Where do we draw the line. The line is so blurry, I don't think we can.
This is excellent.

AI must be a personal choice.

Thank you for reading it. If art helps you cope at all, you should do it and try not to worry about what others might think. Some people need to be creative just for their personal enjoyment, and if AI helps with that, then it is being used in a productive and helpful manner. :)
if you think about it, is AI much different than buying a model from Stonemason, for example, or any other PA or DAZ, and use it in your image? You didn't create it, Its someone else's creation/imagination. There it is. Viola, art, I guess. Yeah. we can manipulate the image within bounds of the model being used. We can manipulate AI until we achieve what we want. Its all on the same path really. An advancement of human thinking nd creativity. Most of what we produce here with DS is based on formative art that has developed over centuries.
But, I don;t like AI and data gathering for the stress it puts on the planet and our resources. Even our bodies.
I think the difference is HUGE. First because the was an actual artist in the creation of the assets, that alone is big enough of a difference for me.
Now regarding the process of getting the renders...A Film director do not create the actors, the sets, the clothes, ...yet is has artistic value in his/her vision (IMO)
Continuing with the analogy, for me, using DAZ is kind of like directing but in a samller scale and with the change to work more or less in each aspect depending on the assets. Using Generative AI would be the equivalent of the so called 'directors' that only yell orders and work with no one in the actual film creation.
I have moral and environmental and political objections to GenAI.
The quality objections don't bother me nearly as much.

That is NOT my art when I use products I didn't make. Well, I don't know how to make anything, so that is a BIG problem for me.
I think that is what my friends and family think when I share my work on Facebook.
I just plop a prop on the screen, put a character in and render. Nope, not that easy.

This really hit home for me. Poor Chat GPT and I have gone round and round about what I need. I am decorating some costumes that are Daz Studio assets. I just want her to add decorations.
I really DO feel like a director!!! "Please look more closely at the position of the woman, Do Not change her from bending to standing when adding decorations!!!"
AND, when using a Daz Studio product, the PA gave us permission to take credit for his/her hard work when it is in our own art.
I do not have permission from any artist to add decor that they made to my art. With my use of AI, it would really be difficult to pinpoint who first made a swirly vine with flowers on it. LOL

It turns out, that each item can be purchased here. Even the dress that has morphs to go along with the poses of the woman at the piano.
One artist thought the other had copied him.
