  • I had a lot of Bad Gateway issues here yesterday. None today, so far.

Try being in the middle of a medical 'e-check-in' where they ask you to write out why you are seeing the doctor? I was wrapping one up and the screen went fuzzy and I lost a 15 minute entry. I have no idea what I wrote the second time matched what I wrote the first time. I tried. But thankfully my surgeon paid more attention to my on-line history and the tests already performed and the medical practioners who had seen me already for this issue.

With DAZ it is not life or death, or whatever. It is just ... but trust me, I was super ticked off with my medical website. No idea if it was a hack, an update in the middle of a workday, or what, but it was freaking annoying.

I've had a lot of gateway errors today, including when trying to respond to your message the first time. The forum is almost unusable for me for the last few days.

I found time to look into the timeout and gateway errors we see with the Daz Forum. The exercise simply involved using `wget`, a Linux utility for interacting with websites, and using the data as a basis for a brief chat with AI. Essentially I wanted to understand the reason why the Daz3D landing page was working well while the Forum was problematic. Attached are the TXT data and the transcribed AI chats as PDF.

Full disclosure, here at the AI chat prompts:

    1. I used wget to crawl da3d.com and daz3d.com/forums separately. Looking at the output, what can you deduce about these two URLs?
    2. OK. Looking at the Daz Forums site, tell me more about what you found: Vanilla Forums software, specifically version 2.1.13p1.
    3. The Daz Forums site exhibits random gateway/timeout, with an accompanying Cloudflare error. (See this - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/uploads/FileUpload/76/05fd6381393e69ee9f04bf234e38d4.png - for a screenshot of the error message.) What can you infer from this and what you uncovered above?

    That's all I've got.

    Cheers!

Chris Rea sadly passed away in December of last year (RIP Chris), but I reckon he'd be well-pleased with my reworking of Road To Hell if he saw it:

Well I'm staring at Daz forums
    But the data doesn't flow
    It boils with every Gateway
    You can think of

And I'm staring at The Commons
But the light of joy I know
    Is browsing the Daz forums
    Without any errors

And the perverted fear of failure
Chokes the smile on every face
    And common sense is ringing
    Out the bell

    This ain't no technological breakdown
Oh no, this is The Gateway To Hell

And then you use up your Daz Tokens
And there's nothing you can do
    Many store-wide errors
    None to blame on you

Oh look out world, take a good look
    What goes down here
You must learn this lesson fast
    And learn it well

This ain't no upwardly mobile freeway
Oh no, this is The Gateway
    This is The Gateway
This is The Gateway To Hell

I feel like it's not Cloudflare's fault, since every time I get the error page it says the error is with the host, i.e.DAZ.

I suspect that is a nonsense message; every site that uses CloudFlare has a huge increase in problems, they are well known for making sites slow or unusuable.  I cannot help thinking someone at DAZ made a very, very bad decision recently.

I go to two other forums that use Cloudflare, and neither has the problems that DAZ has. One is very small, but the other has a good amount of traffic, and is never down. Of course I've probably cursed them now. Lol

Same here. Of course Daz forums might be set up in some way that doesn't play nicely with Cloudflare.

    Statistics I see online:

    • Top Websites: Cloudflare is utilized by over 32% of the top 10,000 most popular websites.
    • Traffic Volume: The network manages over 20% of global web traffic, according to reports from late 2025.

And yet I only get these errors on Daz forum pages. I do believe those messages that blame the problem on the host (Daz).

There are 10,000 top websites? I wonder how many of  those feature cute little fluffy kitten pictures?

    Cheers,

    Alex.

I've looked into what CloadFlare does, basically they are a Denial Of Service defence, when an attack targets a site they "protect" the bots get redirected right around their entire network, which means the bots never hit the site on mass, they are staggered so they arrive at different times, which allows the site to still function.

I suspect the problems we have with the forums is likely "splash damage", part of the attack is getting through to the sub-domainthe forums are on.

Now it may not be an actual DoS attack, I usually have a hard time getting into the forums 10 minutes either side of 10:00 UK time, so how many people are starting up DS/DIM and or trying to log into the forums at that time.

Finally got through on Firefox after Safari on my iPad gave bad gateway after bad gateway

Thankfully not a Gateway Error this time, but rather me informing my loyal fan base that I've reworked my rework of Road To Hell posted ten posts back.
I came back really just to listen to Chris, and noticed I forgot a whole damn verse, and even the bridge!

Shame on me, but it's fixed now  :-D
