started a 8000x3200 px render of World Garden Japan Autumn,  carrara renderestrimating 280 hours.  hard to imagine?

so if leave it running over the weekend, when i come into work toosday, it'll still be running.

I've heard of 4K film stills that took over 5 days on a RENDERFARM! surprise Worse things can happen...

You can substantially reduce render times by a) gamma correcting the image and therefore using substantially less lights/rays and/or (b) rendering spec/reflect/caustics highlights separately

Cetainly multipass is the way to go, no question there!

Reading lots of other peoples code, trying to determine what bits actually do something meaningful and what is Windows or UI specific, basically reverse engineering a working system because all the other engineers are too busy to work on documenting what they wrote, so why not hire a guy that knows nothing abiout the system to figure it all out and document it? Tell him he'll be programming, give him a short assignment writing code, then hit him with a writing project!  Perfect! angry

Already complained to the placement agency.. I'm going to stop buying stuff and shove every spare penny into savings so I can weather a long-ish job search and find something hopefully "permanent" (not a contract, a direct hire) this time around, and not a bloody stupid "diagrams, spreadsheets, and Word documents" job.

    Hate hate hate. angry

...why I bailed out of programming as none of the young bucks in the field ever bothered with documentation.

..ahh, another nice day again.  Sat in the sun all afternoon, felt like the cat in a window. Didn't get home until almost 23:00.

Allergies are going nuts, but an OK tradeoff for my joints and bones feeling so much better.

On my Thursday shopping trip, came across Bush brand Asian Seasoned beans made with special spices and ginger.  So picked up a couple cans, bought some all natural, Nitrate free hot doggies (no mechanically separated anything either), marinated them in Teriyaki sauce and after cooking them used sweet chili sauce instead of mustard or ketchup.  Incredibly tasty.  Think I might be on to something.

That and... the number of programming languages doubled if you took a nap... and efficiency and quality no longer meant squat... and management didn't have a clue about anything except the bottom line.

That's how I feel rendering in Iray! 5 days for a 1300 x 1000 interior with lots of lights! surprise (about an hour in Carrara!)

Still, only 2 weeks till I can get my 980Ti render machine . . .

Part of me wants a little bundle of joy for myself but first I need to find the right one. Another part of me does not want to deal with the mess that bundles of joy tend to leave. I do not think I can deal with a little bundle of joy by myself.

Edit right one means the one to help me with the whole process

Until you find the "right one" consider pet rocks.  They're pretty, require little maintenance, behave perfectly, and can be used as weapons in an emergency.

...yeah, I subscribe to the Dice site just to kind of keep with the trends, and there are so bloody many new languages today (most of them scripting ones that end up encouraging the "spaghetti code school" of coding).

...*sniffle*. Allergies doing a big number on me today. Lots of different types of pollen in the air all at once.

Was supposed to attend a mayoral candidate forum this morning but was too stuffed up and sniffly,.so just stayed in bed.

A bit cooler today but still very comfortable, will be heading out to the neighbourhood coffee shop soon.  Hit 84º in the hood yesterday and after a couple days of light rain, going to be in the 80s by midweek again.

In Stevens Point WI it is currently in the mid 20s and snowing. In Milwaukee it's in the mid 30s but with a brisk wind making the "real feel" 22º. Snow expected there later as well.  As bad as I feel today, I'll take the allergies over cold and snow any day.

Morning. There is a big mob of geese or long necked gulls high in a break in the thunderheads heading North in a big lazy vee, winter is coming I guess, or a storm :)
