May I ask if anyone else noticed an obsolete ethnic term in the blurb for https://www.daz3d.com/dav-gemma-for-genesis-9-hd?  In general, I am thrilled to see multiracial characters (i am a 40/60 mix of English/welsh and Nigerian myself) but I was surprised to see a term that is quite antiquated in the US in an ad.

Yes. Yes, I did. A bit surprised to see it there, frankly.

Agreed. I feel like they could've said something else.

Sadly, not shocked. There's an awful lot of stuff with G*psy in it, even though it's a racial slur and there's been a public push over the last several years for the end of its usage.

She is beautiful though, but yes, the word should be changed.

it is dependent on country, many Travellers in the UK call themselves that even though they are not Roma (going by documentries, I am Australian but I do know there is a different slur for them)

BTW I have a drop of Roma DNA apparently according to Ancestry 1%

as for that other word in the promo linked, yeah not acceptable

I don't chance it on context. If someone tells me something is a racial slur, I just avoid it. I figure my ancestors have done enough harm; the least I can do is err towards caution and update my vocabulary.

I did get DAV Gemma and can confirm she does not come with pre-baked makeup.

The vendor's probably not American, and that term is still in use in the rest of the planet, especially outside the Anglosphere. There's no evidence that Daz proofreads product promo details---or even their own adcopy.

I think there is definite evidence that they don't. wink

This picked my curiosity. :) I've just read the blurb for that character. I'm assuming you refer to the term with the double 't' in it. I'm from Spain. Here, there is a word pretty identical to that; the only difference is that it is written with just a single 't' in Spanish. It's definitely not a term commonly used here. However, it is not officially considered a pejorative expression or one that should be avoided to use. At least, that's what I get upon consulting the term in the Spanish dictionary.

    Thanks for that.

Talk about failed opportunities as nothing in the promo images or the description suggests that... I guess now, instead of being bought, she will go into the wishlist for "maybe later."

I like Cinnabar's morphs, but their textures don't really suit my style. I was curious how Finley would look with other textures, and I like the result. (Morph is 100% Finley, but with VO Mariko proportions at 50% to shorten him a bit, some teeth morphs from NG Build Your Own Smile Orthodontics, and iris morphs from Natural Eyes II. Texture is Dexon3D's Cody from RenderHub with Nathan 9's eyes; eyebrows are Finley's; lashes are Soto's Lashes Utilities for Genesis 9; hair is XYZ's Modern Undercut; brows, lashes, and hair use Revolution Omni Shader; t-shirt is OOT's Masculine Modern Shirt Collection; and the light is one of the iRadiance HDRIs.)

I find it difficult to understand why a vendor essentially releases the same asset for a second time:

    https://www.daz3d.com/old-manhattan-apartment

    https://www.daz3d.com/cca-manhattan-loft

    What am I missing?

Laurita I did do a double take when I spotted the newer one. I like the style so was drawn to it, but I immediately thought "Wait a minute. Looks a lot like the one I already have..." and passed on wishlisting it. Looking at the actual links now, yeah, they're rather similar, probably the same structure but different textures and content. Maybe it's different enough for some to perhaps prefer one over the other?

Oh that XI Underwater Villa today looks gorgeous and near perfect for a project I've had on the back burner for a couple of years. heart Maybe this means I've got to bump that project up on the to-do list...

it's another apartment in the same building cheeky

I guess if you were doing a visual novel of a "Friends" type story with people on the same floor interacting, it would provide consistancy

The owner of the old flat died, and their heir had just finished renovating it, hence the new version blush

This is not totally new. At least it is somewhat different. The other day I came across two 'High School Classroom' old SKU 46133 and the other with 'High School Classroom Interior' SKU 66335 which are identical. And I bought both two years apart! It is a nice classroom but what was DAZ thinking?

Regarding that loft, I have so many lofts I have not installed on my new computer including the one mentioned that looks like the new one, that I didn't need another. If a PA is creating a set for person to live in, I am looking for a bath, kitchen, sleeping/living space at a minimun now. And there are some very nice sets available that include those elements.

They're indeed quite similar.  What's even more mesmerizing is I added the Old one to my cart and the CCA one showed up as one of the recommended products.  A loft so nice, clacydarch made it twice. cheeky

Considering that the amount of copycat'ed products here is staggering, the above mentioned apartment/loft is one of the better products. The basic room setup is alike, but the furniture is different, which is - imho - better then opposite.

I wonder what the people nagging about the similiarity of these products think about the multitude of clothing pieces we get, which all share the same or very close cut and only differ by the colours/textures the PAs use.

I picked up HID Rebecca and Z's Bold Attracted Chair Prop and Poses.  The renders are a bit gratuitous, but the products are really good.  Did a profile shot of Rebecca, too.  No morphing here (she seems to have pretty big feet by default).  And, naturally, I was listening to Michael Sembello's Maniac, because when you're doing riske chair poses with a model, it just works.

Can you not get the catch-up Grab Bag items unless you buy one of the Mad items? There is no code to use for them like there were for the last four days?

  • frank0314frank0314 Posts: 14,707

We have reported the issue with grab bag items and they are working on it now. We caught it at changeover. No, if you have a new release, it should discount the grab bag item to % depending on your current plan. If you add a new release, you should be able;e to get 3 at that discounted rate.

  • frank0314frank0314 Posts: 14,707

Grab bag discounts are working now.

  • SnowSultanSnowSultan Posts: 3,773

So you cannot get the grab bags for the discounted price ($2.99, $3.99, etc) unless you have a new item in your cart with it?

That's the way I have read it all month. Regards, Richard

so it seems. But hey, you can get upt to THREE at once then cheeky

I'm not sure if their recent product was mentioned here already, so apologies if I'm repeating something. I love yesterday's variant on the rainy day pose set that breeze did, here: https://www.daz3d.com/brz-romantic-rain-single-poses-for-genesis-9. Their products are so genius anyway, I love the combination of poses and clothes / props plus morphs for the clothes. And they've got such a romantic / nostalgic touch to them.

Watch out for Toon Expressions Fusion. It supposedly has Full Face, Upper Face and Lower Face expressions. But all the Upper Face expressions zero the Lower Face, and all the Lower Face expressions zero the Upper Face. If that is not bad enough, all the Upper Face expressions are in Lost and Found.
Oh, this is even worse than I first realized. Some of the Lower Face expressions actually pose the Upper Face (not just zero it). An example is Toon EF Lower Face 02. Also, those labeled "Mirror" are not really mirrors of their counterparts. For example, Toon EF Lower Face 03 Mirror and Toon EF Lower Face 03.

I submitted a tech support ticket, for what little that's worth these days -  Request #472875

Here's another strangeness. The PA is shown as Neikdian on the product page. The author listed in the actual pose preset file is nidaekin. This has no functional effect, I just thought it was strange.

Chloe 9 looks interesting. Not convinced she's the athlete claimed by the blurb, but she's more athletic than some recent characters. It will be interesting to see if she has some unique projection morphs for her clothing, as her small chest could cause issues otherwise. Generally, not bad. Regards, Richard.
