Upcoming character I've been working on.

I got the Face Scar Decals, ended up piping it as a LIE layer rather than geoshell (I had trouble getting the geoshell to mesh well).
Omri hair, Unshaven 2 beard plus color for hair.

Looking good!  If I might ask what is a LIE layer and geoshell? Still learning hehe

This is my latest. I'm still using G2 and V4 skins. I haven't moved to G3 yet, I need to though. I used Reality for the longest time, glad I finally made the move to Iray. Both are good but I really like Iray's speed and ease of use.

    Loth:
If you right click on a texture map in a shader, you have the option to open up LIE (Layer Isomething something).

You then have the ability to create a bunch of layers and have them interact in various basic ways (normal all/nothing, multiply, add, subtract). It's a lot like Photoshop or similar. You can also add masks, that can make various layers appear in various pieces.

Geoshell is a geometry, well, shell that envelopes whatever object you make it for. It has an offset that you can change, a distance that it projects outside (or inside, if you set it negative) from the object. You can place whatever textures you want, it has the same zones as the root object.

An Iray render with my new character Kathy for Genesis 3, that is waiting her turn to be released to the store.

Very nice, V.W.- her eyes and her eyeshadow and lashes look very attractive and hit a nice balance between being "there enough" without being overstated.

    Here is another of mine...

The car is a mesh of mine exported from Cinema 4D and imported as an obj. I textured it and found an HDRI that produced some nice reflections, then built a background plate in photoshop to match the scene.

Beautiful scene, Simon L, gorgeous colors and great model - are you by any chance going to be selling that car model at Daz (or somewhere) ?   Wow!

This is finished now. I had to stop adding things as it was already taking up 10 GB of memory to load and 14 GB + of my 16 GB when rendering. Twenty Five hours CPU only.

FIshtails, that is a really beautiful and evocative image.

    Yes, Fishtails, REALLY good job!

I love the snow, and the sky came out very nicely. Glad to have contributed in any small way to that. :)

    Thank you.

I would really like to tell you what I did but I am tweaker who adds this, removes that, moves this slider and moves that one until something appears that looks right. Invariably I sometimes end up changing something that sets everything back and I haven't saved the good changes that I liked and then I have to start the tweaking process again smiley

  • Ok I guess I'll join the fun lol.  Here's one I did a little while back.

Nice render! Great work on the tire!

  • Thanks Rafmer I can't take any credit for the tire at all though.  That's all DZFire.  All I did was add an Iray Rubber shader to it & kept the maps.

Here's the most recent one that I've done.  A little something for the current season lol

..beautiful, everything works together so well to evoke the feeling of a cold winter morning.

Don't think my system could deal with a full day + render though.

..ooooh, love the camera angle, lighting, and shadows. This would make a really nice book cover.

I like this; a lot of dichotomy in it, seeing as one wouldn't normally expect to find an orc reading. :)

Thank you. Glad you like it. I'm sure there must be at least a couple orcs around with more scholarly inclinations. :P

A slightly 'improved' version of the same render:

I like the brooding, moody feel in this. The android seems a bit out of place, though. Guess it's just me. :)

Hey gang, I've been trying to up the ante with the realism in my figures. Many real-world female models have fine downy body hair which shows up near the terminator of shadows, and the lack of this subtle sensual feature in 3D renders is one of the things that I think can give them a plasticy fake feeling. I've occasionally painted the little hairs on in post with Photoshop, but I wanted to see if there was a solution to render them. There's a bodyhair for V4 product made by Exenem available over at the other big 3D figure store, and after some months of hemming and hawing about whether it would be usable on G3F, I finally gave it a chance. I did the V4-G3F fit technique of autofitting it to G2F, and then autofitting it to G3F. Fits like a charm. :)

Here are some little hairs in action, most visible on the belly, thigh, and close forearm. Theyadd more to the render than I even hoped for, really glad I finally gave it a try.

The photorealism of this is truly awesome. I really could have been fooled into thinking it's a real photo. Certain the fine hair added helps in this respect!

Last one for now. Still using the Yosemite Skydome and I managed to get the sun lined up with the Iray sun more by luck than design smiley

This really took my breath away. I've always thought a render like this can be achieved only with programs like VUE.

Brilliant work! (I'm not talking about the sun. :P )

Please consider not quoting the entire message when it contains embedded graphics. Doubly worse when you respond to a reply that quotes your message w/ embedded graphics. Makes the forum a lot harder to read.

You can always do the user name and a small text quote to make your reference clear.

    TIA.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I often prefer that the image be included in the quote, especially when it isn't on the same forum page - it can be a real PITA to try to find the original image being referenced if it's a few pages back (even one page back can be a bit annoying).

...a goofy one I did for last month's RRRR:

Took over 6 hours to render for some reason (2 hours more than the Railway Station scene)

    Such a Horrid Clang.

It is quite beautiful, if you ignore the characters. All that wood, shiny metal and interesting shadows.

    A pool with a view.

The set is Imaginary House Indoor pool converted over to Iray. , I used a photo of some mountains, which I used for the back ground. by setting it under the environments tab. and I used Daz Studios built in default Iray light set at infinite light sphere. thats it. a pretty simple set up for pretty a decent results. it  took about 10 minutes to render
