Well, I hope you are on high ground and have some sort of tornado shelter. By the way, I hope your lost limb grew back... Actually, sometime after I made the comment about your lost limb, I noticed there was a tree limb on the ground in your picture... I thought your spellchecker went wonky... Mine loves to change stuff I wrote after its already on the screen... I did realize you actually lost a tree limb... Well, I'm glad it didn't fall on anyone.  Anyway, take care and stay dry.

No! No you can not... Seize the moment... In fact seize the cheesecake... Grab it with both hands and flee the building... Hide out somewhere in the bushes outside and feast!... Actually seize some coffee too, the cheesecake can be a bit sticky sometimes.

Supposedly my area is one of the highest in Austin.  My tornado shelter is a pillow and blanket on the hall floor between closet and my bedroom.  Quiet and peaceful here at the moment.

My tree limb and pool noodle are still in the backyard.  Really surprised the noodle didn't float off.  However, I just checked and the noodle is not in sight.  Hmmmm.  Maybe my tomcat took it out to show off for his girlfriend.  I'll ask when he gets home.

In the meantime, I'm staying inside where it's dry.

I did not realize you had a cane... Well, actually I did, but I thought you were joking or it was something temporary... I actually only noticed it recently in some comment... Sorry to hear... I guess I missed whatever happened. I hope it wasn't traumatic or permanent.  I've had lots of broken bones and sprained limbs, so if you want any tips on how to hobble rapidly in case there an opportunity to heist another royal cheesecake, I can help you plan your caper... Get well and feel better.

Well, turns out the job isn't in Austin, it's in Round Rock which is north of the city.. stupid California headhunter.. fortunately, light rail from Austin gets me within about 7 miles, which is taxi distance, and the raise I got is enough to cover the extra travel expense!  Still.. curse mutter.. bloody headhunters.. angryangry

Ticket reserved, will pick it up tomorrow.  Now it's just a matter of waiting.. I hate waiting..

..I hate that.  I 'll get an offer that says "Portland OR", but when I check out the address I find it's in one of the far flung burbs like Hillsboro Tualatin, or Wilsonville (not even the same county  as Portland) where getting there on transit is an "adventure" or (as in the case of Wilsonville) impossible. Even had one that ended up being in Vancouver WA.

I think it's the fact a lot of headhunters just pick the nearest major city and use that, not condisering that not everyone wants a two-hour commute! angry Bozos...

Regardless, I've found a pile of carpools to get me home from work, whioch cost about 1/2 of what a taxi would, so that helps.  I should be able to find a rideshare/carpool up once I get there, as well.  I do NOT want to live in Round Rock until they get at least some rudimentary bus service going. Only last year did they start work on a transit plan, so it'll be a while.

Uber and Lyft are both very active in Austin, as well, so I have a bajilion options.  It's one of the reasons I love Austin, it's a fairly progressive city and we get all the new tech and stuff almost as fast as Silicon Valley does! laugh

..yeah Madison WI is similar in that way: an island of progressiveness in a state moving backwards.

Ha, I said "we".. I'm going to just tell people I'm from Austin, it's my adopted home! laugh

Heck you've lived there longer than in Tusla, why not?

Are they tornado rated? You may want to consider hiding out in a bathtub if other shelter is not available... More often than not people are injured by the flying debris... Well, I'm glad it's quiet now... Stay safe.

they storing the halloween party cheesecake in the fridge back here in the maintenance shop.  doh.  it haz somekinda whipped cream frosting on it.  never saw anything so bea-u-ti-ful

Cautiously she placed her fingers upon the handle... It was cool to the touch, perhaps just a handle like any other and for a moment she became relaxed, then in a heartbeat she remembered her long journey that brought here, the perils she faced and the tales of what lay beyond that door... Surely nothing by the design or crafting of mortal hands could be contained within that space... But still, it was just an ordinary white metal box... What if the stories were all just the ramblings of madmen and heretics... What if her long journey was for nothing and all her comrades she had lost along the way had spent their efforts for naught... No... no matter the cost, she come too far... In one brief moment that seemed to hang on the edge of eternity, the universe had stopped... Everything became clear, every step, every breath and every second of her life had led her to this moment and before doubt or fear could step in and stay her hand, she closed her eyes, firmly grasped the handle and threw open the door... She hesitated for a moment, for what lay within had not stuck her dead... Was it even real? As she opened her eyes, what she saw before her was more wondrous then all the legends had described. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she fell to her knees... If only the others who had so long ago been lost could see this, she thought to herself... And through her wonder and tears she could feel their presence... It felt as though a gentle hand had rested upon her shoulder to comfort her and a soft, kind voice was speaking to her... "Misty... Are you okay? Do you want me to call an ambulance or something hun?", said the voice. Was it her? Had very magic of legend repaired all that was lost?  "Misty... It's just a really nice cheesecake... We got it at CostCo..." Misty threw her arms around Linda, for it was true she had survived the long journey across the maintenance shop... And there was Ted sitting at the break table reading his Newsday, checking the lottery numbers... "She gets like that with fancy cheesecake" Ted said as he crossed out numbers... Over by the phone there was Phil and Lucy... They had survived too... "They said they'll be here in ten minutes... Are her pupils dilated... Does she have a fever or is she foaming at the mouth?... The 911 guy needs to know..." Phil said, holding his hand over the phone. Suddenly hands were lifting her up and she was being carried away, she felt light as a feather and she reached out to the cheesecake as it grew smaller and more distant... She closed her eyes... Was it all just a dream?

Sorry, that just stirred a vivid image of cheesecake love.

    ...Bravo!

I grew up in Western NY state near Jamestown.  I left to go to college right after high school in '66.  Spent time in the Florida Space Coast area, and in Washington DC for 42 years and retired to my home area in NY.  Nothing's changed here except that there are fewer decaying barns and there's an Interstate road bypassing the towns and cities hastening their decay.  And the Amish have taken over all the farms that used to be owned by modern farmers with tractors.  After four decades of being around people with a mindset of progress, I returned to people stuck in the 1850s and 1950s.  However, I find it cheaper to live here on a fixed income than I would in bigger cities.  When people ask why I returned here,  I reply, "Poverty". frown

...woke up to lots of rain and wind here this morning. Joints, muscles and bones aching something fierce even after a "Motrin dose" (double dose) of Advil™. Going to rain straight through Monday with winds kicking up again tomorrow.  So much for Halloween party plans.  Just going to stay home where it's warm & dry.

Fortunately I picked up a bottle of Canadian whiskey yesterday to ward off the effects of the weather.  Had a steaming bowl of New England Clam Chowder for lunch perfect on a chilly damp day. like today.

My doctor approved me to receive "Honoured Citizen" status on the buses and trams, so yesterday I went down to the Transit Authority's office to get my card.  Finally, half price for single fares and tickets as well as I can now get a monthly pass (good on the trams, streetcar and buses) for only 28$ (instead of 100$).  Now all those young healthy whippersnappers have to move out of the front seats for me.

I hear you on the associated expenses of cars.  I just had a SNAFU getting my brakes fixed.  After two months they finally don't squeal or squeak anymore.  Long story.  It should have taken just one visit but it ended up requiring six visits to service shop costing about $1000.00, and just today I discovered that now my parking brake doesn't work.  crying

    Qualified complaint:

An old customer for PC service called a few days ago saying that her most recent Windows8.1 automatic update crashed her system. (sigh)  So I fixed it for her relatively easily and earned $50. smiley  But in the process I fired up my alternate computer with Windows8.1 installed, and it went through an automatic update and guess what... crashed my system too, really badly, had to do a complete rebuild!  crying   That computer is a rebuilt rescued machine that I had to put a new motherboard into a year or so ago.  To get it back to Win8.1 I have to install Windows7 OEM first, then go through all the updates, then install the Win8.1 Pro upgrade and go through all the updates for it too.  I'm up to the point where it's fully functioning Win7 but I'm debating whether I really want to take it to Win8.1 or not.  The only thing I used it for was testing out Win8 issues for customers.  It works just spiffy under Win7 but ran like a dog under Win8.  Not sure I want to go back there again. indecision

When people ask why I returned here,  I reply, "Poverty". frown

...being unable to drive and not having a car (or even afford one with all the associated costs), I unfortunately have to stay in the city and deal with the extra expense.  At least getting around on transit is now cheaper for me and I can save a few zloty's at the nearby rep cinema/pub as I'm old enough for senior rates. In a couple months I'll qualify for senior discounts on Amtrak.

I hear you on the associated expenses of cars.  I just had a SNAFU getting my brakes fixed.  After two months they finally don't squeal or squeak anymore.  Long story.  It should have taken just one visit but it ended up requiring six visits to service shop costing about $1000.00, and just today I discovered that now my parking brake doesn't work.  crying

PS:  I love your old geezer emoticon.  But I've never figured out how to attach non-standard emoticons inline with my text. (hints?)

..what you need to do is go to one of the following two sites:

    http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php

    http://yoursmiles.org/index.php

I have both of these bookmarked and they work great.

On FreeSmileys just right click and copy click on the URL code below the one you want.

On YourSmiles, select the smiley you want, then tick the URL "radio button" and right click/copy the link that shows in the window..  Note: some categories will offer you a choice of Small, Medium, and Large when clicked on.

To insert into a post, place your cursor where you want it then use the Image function above just as if you were adding a picture to a post.

Still not popular here after years of marketing I guess because the whole harvest/winter thing doesn't really play when it is Spring an 100 in the shade :)

It's slacked off here for the moment, but more is expected.  I35 is shut down in a couple of places down south, like Buda and Kyle.  The airport is shut down too. I think we'll be okay here.

lots of lightning and thunder but no rain here :)

...woke up to lots of rain and wind here this morning.

Getting a seat on a bus slunds good, they are ripping them out here to make room for more ppl to stand up :)
