Another one that I don't get the need for EL. It's an obsolete military vehicle last produced in 1943 81 years ago

    Why?

I don't recognize her from anything or as anybody

The promos suggest it's supposed to be (Elektra) but it's a near, not a lookalike, for me.

  • maybe an error as Martin Frost's atmospheres product also EL

Most "don't know why" ones are probably stuff from the update to the submission system that accidentally flagged stuff; I expect it'll get corrected later today.

Not sure if this one has been discussed, it's in my wishlist and I would like to buy it on sale, but not if it should have an editorial license.

As pointed out in another thread it is basically a copy of the original Paul Rudolph Burroughs Wellcome building interior, which was demolished in January 2021.

So has Daz looked into this one already and said ok? Or are they unaware of it? I would really like to know before I buy it and use it.

IMO, pretty much all today's new toon releases should have ELs - but don't - since Daz is once more boldly going into selling Star Trek models. It all has the look of the 1970s cartoon. The ship and its interiors even have "TOS" in their names - which is now used, even by the IP owner, for the first live action TV series.

Didn't Daz offer Trek add-ons for spaceships and SF clothing last year? That disappeared very quickly? I'm as big a Star Trek fan as I am Star Wars & I am staying well away from these.

Technically "TOS" in this case stands for "Toon Outer Space".  Technically.

LOL Winking & nodding right along with everyone else.

Just saying that Paramount can be more obsessive about Trek than Disney is about their IPs. Around the turn of the century, the ST fan clubs had to rebrand as generic SF clubs. Fortunately, that only lasted a few years.

  • Well, I grabbed the toon TOS ship-interiors stuff, and the iRay add-ons, using my 8 tokins.... partly because I didn't want it to disappear out from under me like that TNG-inspired pack did.  But also because I've been doing Trek TOS stuff occasionally.  And also because one or more of my RP sonas came from a space-adventure univserse that borrowed designs from various space-opera shows.  ("Hey, we can BUILD that!"  And promptly did.)

It has been semi-officially stated that Editorial Licences will not be used again going forwards (although it is marginally possible they may be used for specifically licenced products).

I don't think Daz want to roll it back on anything that already had one, but they did cause various nuisances that seem to have been deemed not worth it in the long run.

  • Wow!  Yeah, I also always thought the EL idea was asking for trouble.  Glad they seem to have abandoned the approach.

    Interesting. I hadn't heard that.

Me neither. So I guess it's back to the old "use your own judgement & at your own risk."

I've seen vendors say that submissions are no longer being accepted for ELs, and the last product to have an EL was October. Since then, the moderators have basically said that everything that's been reported as initially having had one was a mistake in the product submission system.

It's not a hard announcement, but it's reasonably reputable sources. So unless we actually start to see new EL products again, it's probably not out of place for a specific product to not have one, even if you'd've expected it to have one this time last year.

I only became interested in this topic when I did an acrylic portrait based on a product I bought here at DAZ3D.

The product was a representation of a well-known "political figure."

The portrait is very popular with my friends. But it is yet one of many portraits that i've painted in recent weeks.

Most of the portraits are inspired by DAZ3D products.

I assemble them in DAZ Studio to use as a "model." Then I have the image in my mind and do the acrylic painting.

All of my paintings are for personal use. I have no expectations of ever selling my art.

So I guess I don't need to worry about Editorial Licenses?!

well I got into trouble over some of my renders by other creators that I sold online you could buy on various products including clothing, mugs, and other stuff and my store was closed done and I was permently banned. One was a bunny girl so got in trouble with Playboy another because a company that sold there had/has a character called Chainsawman that appears in anima and has comics latest being a bATMAN CROSSOVER. The character was based inspired by character/s in some movies/games yes but nothing like theirs. Oh and a render of Daphne and Velma so yeah maybe it does make sense that Daz little nervous of some products and just covering themselves with the editorial license as a side note I too wasn't going to but anything with the EL BUT I've relented bought some things that I know easily would be EL like a certain droid because I wanted to use him and know easily he would be restricted it's the other stuff like kitchen appliances I wouldn't remember being EL don't want to touch, there are just some things I want to do art for the love of it/them of even if I can't sell so I've kinda changed my mind slightly over the EL stuff

    myrender chainsaw grooving Chainsaw Grooving

chainsawman from crunchyroll said my render was of VIZ | The Official Website for Chainsaw Man

@angelreaper1972 i think the vibe of your chainsaw guy is the character Ash from the Evil Dead movie series. Ash was famously played by actor Bruce Campbell. I think that crunchy roll guy overstepped. Even so, your experiences show how copyright issues can be a slippery slope for artists. Sorry all that happened to you.

yes it was inspired by him and the girl from lollipop chainsaw I admit that  but think that other is is becoming a huge thing and they didn't want competition in chainsaw theme funny thing is there really is a lot of copyright stuff uploaded sold not owned by others such as scans movie posters, comic covers, artwork and other stuff  was connected to one of the origional comic artists he was not happy when he found out someone was selling his art as their own.
Some IP owners can be very possessive some approve like and encourage fan art but then you have some like Disney, whoever owns Star Trek, and so on being funny. Nintendo tried something that backfired they tried to own the rights to the ability to ride horses or other creatures and summoning creatures caused a lot of nervous reactions in the gaming community.

But as I've mentioned I've reconsidered buying using certain products with the Editorial License that I wont not mistake being such in my runtime cause sometimes you just want to do art of  your/my favorite franchises being a geeky nerd there really are some really cool products that have been made I;ve avoided in the past I regret not getting because of the EL  I just want to have fun doing my art as it is very important part of my life and means a lot to me I'ts just that everyday type like kitchen appliances  content I'd forget what was and wasn't EL I'll avoid to avoid trouble
