Boost for DAZ?

I came across an article about DAZ partnering with Infinite Compute to provide rendering service. I'm kind of surprised that there hasn't been news splash about it around here. At least none I recall.

The service seems reasonably priced. I wonder if anyone have used them and have any pointers.

Oh man, how great it would be to be able to use an on-demand cloud rendering service for all DAZ Studio users.

Being able to use NVIDIA Iray Server and GPU hardware in the cloud will be especially helpful for Mac users!

That said, I personally wouldn't want to use anything associated with NFTs, NFP, cryptocurrency, or any nonsense like that — and these guys seem to be deeply into it when you look at their homepage...

It won't even give me an error... just a black screen on my iPad.

Or they are using the same Server Hamster to power their site... well, not the same one... poor Tim, he died a while ago, but the same type of hamster... I'm figuring either the really fuzzy Teddy Bear hamsters which overheat too quickly or those little Eastern European ones which fly off the wheel if they go too fast.

thanks for your comment @lou_harper.  We are in beta launch mode right now, and are considering a number of promotional activities in partnership with Daz in the coming weeks/months.  Our prices are designed to give Daz artists convenient access to a range of NVIDIA GPU's to render their promos, characters and animations.  Give Boost for Daz a whirl...and let us know what you think.  We'd love to hear from you on the Boost for Daz Discord!

Great point @Kaleb242!  Boost for Daz was designed for all Daz artists everywhere.  As long as you are upgraded to the last software versions you should be able to use Daz Studio running on your PC or Mac to access any of the NVIDIA GPU's available on Boost for Daz for rendering.

As a Daz Partner, our work with Daz on the NFTs, NFPs projects etc was limited to rendering the collections.

I believe Daz partenerd with alot of 3rd party cloud rendering service already, such as octane, but depend on what you do, I find most single render works fine and doesn't take much time on my current PC(which probably is the fastest local machine money can buy) but when it comes to anaimation, a rendering farm or cloud service is definately needed.

Octane is a render engine, like 3Delight or Iray, rather than a rendering service.

Even for single renders, I think the service may well be useful for complex scenes - at least for those of us without the really big GPUs.

I'd consider using such a service, myself.  I have a decent GPU, but I've had scenes that were far too complex to render with it.  I've had to use Decimator, Scene Optimizer, remove unnecessary items, and make billboards just to be able to render particular scenes (or worst case scenario, just scrap and start over).  Having such a service available is definitely convenient for me, if I don't want to sacrifice so much from my scene.

I might be misremembering, but wasn't there a service subscription offered as a reward for one of the Daz contests?  I seem to remember learning about such services from a contest of some sort.

Out of curiosity, how long has your RTX A6000 been running, what brand is it, and how are the temps? I've been using a Lenovo I got back in January with a new system and my temps on the card consistently plateau at 80 C. Nothing to worry about, but wondering how other workstation cards compare when it comes to thermals. I keep the room at an ambient temp of 74-75 F.

It really is a nice card to have dedicated for rendering. Its fast and can handle big scenes without the need for restarting Daz to clear out the VRAM so frequently. It can really eat up the system RAM though if the scenes get too complex.

Yeah, he has a monster setup with 3 RTX 3090's with a custom waterloop for cooling everything iirc. That's a lot of wattage & heat to contend with.

@magog_a4eb71ab  Boost for Daz is an on-demand, cloud-rendering service in the cloud for Daz artists everywhere. So all our cards in a climate-controlled data centers made accessible to artists through Boost for Daz.  If you have a really high performance GPU and all your Daz work fits into local memory and does not exceed it, then Boost for Daz might not be a service that right for you at this time.  However, if you are on a PC laptop, or an Apple Mac or have Daz projects that are exceeding your local GPU resources, then Boost for Daz is perfect - giving you access to on-demand, NVIDIA GPU acceleration on tap - just pay for what you use.  A6000 is a sweet card, but feel free to give Boost for Daz a shot for the complex scenes you mentioned and find yourself needed to cut scenes to fit your card, running against time, or are pushing your system resources to the limit.

Has anybody given this service a try? I would like to know how much a render would cost using like 2 g8 characters with hair (no extreme oot) and clothing in a normal environment like https://www.daz3d.com/victorian-iron-conservatory with 3 lightsources quality 1 conversion rate 100% and full hd size (1920x1080).

I know it is impossible to tell exactly, but what would be your guess, just to get a feeling for the costs?

    Thankyou!

Me me me! :D I've been using them for a while now. Almost all the promos for CC Pixie and CC Puck were done on their service. I render at 2000 x 2600 for promos. I don't think any of them took more than 10 minutes to render on the server setup I used. The longest amount of time was the upload portion (or at least it felt the longest) :D That was using the RTX 4000 as I recall.

  • mdingmding Posts: 1,652

@ChangelingChick thanks a lot, 10 minutes sounds great for such a high resolution!

  • Leonides02Leonides02 Posts: 1,379

This is quite exciting. I'll definitely give this a try!

  • ChangelingChickChangelingChick Posts: 3,360

And that 10 minutes was *after* upload, not including.

But did they charge you for the upload or just the 10min rendering...

I’ve been wanting something like this for a while! Every year at Siggraph I asked about cloud services but they weren’t familiar with DAZ and not sure if it would work, looked super complicated and I was afraid it might be going against the EULA uploading to a third party. But this looks really interesting.

Can you disable it and only use when needed or is the default? I wouldn’t want it running every time, only when needed.

Also, are you able to send multiple files and rener over night?
