    4G still works but my modem is like dialup on it

    For Steve K who, elswhere, mentioned taking up cel animation.

    In the last week I took delivery of my first pen and drawing display.  I chose the XPpen Artist 15.6 pro version 2 and am delighted with its performance as a drawing/painting device.  I sometimes used a Wacom pen and tablet but the XPpen has features that have won me over.  Earlier in the year I bought a mini pc and I use this with the display. I don't need a monitor with this set up and it just feels like using a table easel at a low angle.  I bought Clip Studio paint also.  Apart from being able to record live drawings, there are 2d animation features.  I haven't explored these yet and it may be that most features are with the more expensive version of the program.

    Clip Studio comes with tons of assets to download for free.  The program has its own morphable 3d figures of all kinds and a huge number of poses.  The figures are poseable just as in Poser etc.  3d objects can be imported.  This allows an artist to build scenes either for reference or to trace onto another layer.

    Wow!  I was of course joking about the cost of 3D animation vs 2D, but you make a good point.  There are some great products out there that make 2D attractive.  And some great 2D animations, also (think "King Of The Hill").

    Thanks for your reply, Steve.  Earlier in the year I was recovering from a bone removal operation on my wrist.  For a long time before that I could hardly do anything with my hands due to pain.  Now that I can use my right hand again, I would like to get back into real drawing and painting.  Much as I would like to set up a studio to walk into and work most days, I'm currently spending most of my days with someone close who is receiving end-of-life care.  That isn't mentioned for sympathy - the commitment generally means that I'm not good at keeping up forum discussions.  (once a day or two has passed, I feel I shouldn't have people click on a thread just to see a brief thank you or whatever -which is probably wrong.)

    The set-up I described, though, is all I could ask for in the meantime.  The screen size and pen combination just feels perfect.  As for Clip Studio, there are many great alternative drawing packages but not all have animation tools.

    Sounds like you're getting back to 2D animation, great.  Yes, if the package has no animation tools, I'm not interested.  BTW, today I completed my 48 Hour Film contest here in Houston, two days to make a 5 minute video with a given genre, prop, character and line of dialogue.  My entry is a 3D animation titled "ErgoSum" about an AI run amok, using Carrara and Daz Studio.  I can't link to the video until after the contest judging in a month or so, and I have not finished the 48 second trailer, which I can link when it's done.  A movie poster is attached.

    You have just finished 48 hours of creating under high pressure and are still able to post here?   You must have great stamina.  The poster is a highly accomplished work IMO.  Hope you get to relax and feel refreshed.  Good luck with it all.

    Thanks.  The rules allow still images created before the contest so I can use those great iRay renders as backgrounds for animation in Carrara.  And of course Carrara has become second nature for me after all these years, especially my large collection of Carrara clips (mocaps) which I used for several long key scenes.  Only one short scene has hand posed key frames.  The result is less than Pixar level, but I've read they take more than two days. wink

    Same from me, too.  One of our two cats had a serious eye condition (iris melanoma), but the vets seem to have it under control.  Hopefully they've got yours healing, also.

    Health update:-

    Blood test, including PSA for Prostrate Cancer - all good !

    ECG - all good !

    Chest X-ray - all good !

    Stress Echocardiagram - Cardiologist said everything looking good, heart working well under stress, no signs of any blockages. However there was some extra fat behind the heart that he wants to get checked out, has recommended to my Doc that I get a CT scan done.

    Gastroscopy - Doc has done referral, now on hospital waiting list.

    Hopefully all keeps going well !!!

    do any of you feel the guilt I do eating food and drinking drinks in the food court in the mall you didn't buy there?

    my main sins being a pizza hut pizza, bits of a supermarket rotisserie chicken with a supermarket bought drink

    (the latter 2 at least bought in the same building)

    I also bring my supermarket bought Monster energy drink with me into Hungry Jacks to have with my burger 

    I mean, it's not like I strolled there to use their luxury surroundings

    I am there only because I was shopping there

    my pizza and chicken are still hot

    if I drove (I no longer do) I would eat in my car obviously

    Had a mate visiting for a chat and a cuppa. Mum yelled out a bit before that the alarm was about to go off. My mate asked "What?" - he had not heard about it, so I filled him in about the details, including the claims by the tin-hats-brigade that it was going to signal the hidden computer chips in everyones heads that they were about to be overtaken for mind control, he had a laugh - he has a PhD in Law. He put his phone on the table waiting for it to go off. The moment the time arrived all our phones went off. No sign yet of mind control ......

    Qld Health organised for a private hospital to carry out the procedure with all costs paid by Qld Health and bumped me up the waiting list. Monday 10th of August !!!
