Playing around on an old laptop. I wasn't using is for anything in particular couse it's an old 32 bit CoreDuo P.O.S.. I decided to try Windows 11 (Yup) on it. To my surprise, it works!  But how is THIS possible?

well Windows told me when it said my rig did not meet the hardware requirement so presumably your laptop does

Maybe I should add that this version of Windows 11 is not an 'Official" release.  It's a stripped down version windows 11 referred to as 'Tiny Win 11'.  According to the hype, it's supposed to work on just about any old computer or laptop that would ordinarily not qualify according to TPM.  I decided to try it cause maybe I was just bored, and wanted to see if it actually works. If you look at my screen grab, what I was wondering about is that it states that it's a 64bit on a 32 bit laptop.  Just to be clear, I'm not promoting Tiny 11,  cause you never know what you get from the internet.

it was 32bit Vista but now has Linux Mint 64bit

My laptop srtarted with Vista as well.  I've had a number of laptops over the years, and when I retire or get rid of them I always save the hard drive, so, by swapping out the Vista OS drive, I installed Tiny 11 on a different drive. That way if things go south, I just remove the drive and install the origional drive, whch is actually Windows 7 now.  I have a Linux drive as well, in case I get really Bored.

    Edit to add:

Activation was no problem,  I used the SN from an old never used Windows 8 DVD I had laying around.  Updates worked as well except the features that require TPM

You can create a WXI setup by editing two files which turns off TPM .. either Google or YouTube will show you how easy it is.

I did it for my old Samsung laptop yes

getting a new SSD drive and Windows 10 reinstalled at a repairer kind enough to pick it up because I don't drive and my regular one around the corner of me is booked out, bit dearer for labour too but I am too frustrated without it as too many things I cannot do on my old PC without a graphics card, and actually wanted to use Blender 3 for something which won't install on Windows 7 either

reinstalling all my software will suck

When your computer(s) say "No Internet Connection".  So I screw around for an hour with resets, diagnostics, etc. Finally called my wife with a iPad Internet connection.  "We are doing work in your area, please standby".  How was I, with no Internet, supposed to get this message?  They have my phone, why no text message, or a forwarning via email as they've done in the past?  Yeah, its all working, but ...

I feel the PAIN!!!  One of my main computers died a month ago, on which I use Octane, and I suspected that I may have issues with re-installing Octane. Not sure when I'll have it rebuilt, but please share your soloution if/when You find one.

been too busy putting out fires

my Swapdisk on my Win7 suddenly vanished with my desktop and all my programs and Windows made a error sound and created a temp paging file as it ceased to exist

a restart didn't fix it but a full shutdown brought it back

one computer with a failed boot is unfortunate

an important external drive suddenly failing 2 days ago very unfortunate

3 drives on 2 different computers doesn't look like a coincidence

and I just heard it restart by itself in the other room so it's ongoing, will have to shut it down and cut power until I can get it looked at

    edit

desktop still there but there is an issue so powered it off completely

    I don't want to lose 2 computers
