I do the same. Also, I don't use characters all that much - I've picked a couple of G8 male and female bases, modified them to taste, and they're my go-to generic female or male for a scene. I've got over 120 G8 females and I've used maybe 20 of them - so I have no interest in looking trough dozens of them in the sale pages. I get to about page four of a list of items, boredom sets in and I quit. I very much want he ability to exclude categories of items from showing up.
If the new "design" is "designed" to drive the existing customer base away, then they're doing a stellar job.
Thanks, @barbult, for the link.
OK, I've already said my piece about how much the new layout annoys me, so I won't rehash that.
I did note what happens when you shrink the width of your browser window, how it adds a 'show/hide' option for the Sort options, which gave me an idea or two...
Rather than explain without visual aids, I'll just show my idea as mocked up in Photohsop, then explain what I added.
Everything isn't perfectly straight, but it's good enough for now. Anyways, 5 seems to be the maximum number across for product thumbnails atm, so I went with that. 6-10 might be more useful for people with 4K monitors, just sayin...
Note that I added the 'coupon sort' options that used to be available via the Daz Deals plugin. This is highly useful to me when trying to figure out what I can use the coupons on... sure I can try to divine this from the little icons below the products, but just showing the ones that the coupon is good for (as was done with the Daz Deals plugin) should just be built in functionality.
I may have forgotten a checkbox or two from the Daz Deals plugin, but you get the idea here. This should just be native functionality on the shop pages.
I also added the 'Go to page' navigation thing just above the product thumbnails. It's already at the bottom of the page, but having one at the top of the page would be useful.
I added the 'Show/Hide Product Filters above the product thumbnails, which is what happens already when you squeeze the width of your browser window. This is a good place for this, people can ignore it until they need it, then open the dropdown when they need it. Speaking of which:
Note that I added a 'Show/Hide Shop Filters' dropdown. These are the same sort options that appear at the top of the main Shop page. I'm not going to bother to mock up what is displayed when you expand each category, as y'all are probably familiar with how these category sorts work already. These are highly useful when you are trying to find say just architectural items, props, hair for say Genesis 3, etc. and should be on every sale page. They'd save us a lot of time when there are multiple sales pages to sort through.
In this context, the 'Shop' filters would only be applied to items that are in each category that are also part of that particular sale page for that particular day. That way, you don't need to sort through the entire store or the group of pages that are part of a particular sale subcategory to find say just Props that are part of the Holiday sale sub-category for that day.
The other dropdown would have the sort options as now shown currently at the left side of the page, when the browser window is wide enough. This reclaims that space for the product thumbnails.
I suppose that you could add the functionality shown in the right dropdown to the left dropdown, but I like the elegance of say, having a vendor sort on the left dropdown while you are using other sort options on the right dropdown. Either way, these additional sort options would be highly useful when navigating sale pages...
I'm not going to bother to submit a ticket with this suggestion, as the Daz sales team, and the Daz representative that started this thread in particular, should be monitoring this thread anyways. If they aren't, that's their loss. Others can call attention to this (forum moderators, etc.) if they like this idea and want to pass it along. Support tickets are a major pain, but that's another topic for another day.
...OK here's a new one.
I quoted and replied to a post on the "Stupid Thread" and when I clicked on "Post Comment" it didn't clear the screen for a while. When it finally submitted, not just one, but 15 duplicate copies of the response were posted.
C'mon man fix this malarkey.
Did you click on "Post Comment" button more than once?
Probably, but only because the bloody server wasn't responding. I've done it myself. So frustrating.
The forum software remembers every click and acts accordingly when waking up from it's nap.
Ditto. I filed a ticket on this and sent a screenshot. If more people file tickets too they might take notice.
I truly don't understand this "new" layout. I really don't. Oh look, they're giving away a free product! Fantastic, wonderful....oh wait a minute, I have to scroll through 4441 small thumbnails to find something because there is NO WAY TO FILTER BY MY WISHLIST!!! Or to filter out texture add ons, or characters, or ANYTHING. We're expected to scroll through THOUSANDS of freaking small pictures to find our "free gift". Unreal.
What is it with finding the need to 'improve' the store? All you end up doing is breaking more and more things that the customers want when you do. Now I can't even download anything, I go to my download page to pick up the latest Christmas freebie and what do I find? NOTHING! I tried logging out and back in and even searching by name and got bupcus! Could you PLEASE make sure your 'fixes' don't break something useful before improve the store?
As a workaround, I found that if you go to your Orders list, view a recent order, then click on the Download button, it takes you to your product library with just that one item shown. Nothing else shows up, but at least you have a way to go from your most recent order to a download button if you want the zip. I always want the zips...
Thanks for that bit of info, I will grab them that way. We shouldn't have to look for a workaround to download something we have purchased. Since I don't see more people here complaining about it, I am going to guess it is an isolated issue and we 'might' get it fixed daz soon.
I always download the zipfiles, at least taht way I have something to show for the outlay of money instead of a link to a cloud.
I tried to sort by new... it makes no sense. Listing V4 products before G8 products then throw in a dash of G2 before returning to G8? Why?? What time system is DAZ using?
Truly the most ridiculous shopping experience in recent memory.
My guess is they are getting a head start on next years April Fools Day prank, nothing else makes any kind of sense.
If I was a vendor giving DAZ a ridiculous percentage for this service?
I might be upset.
...yeah, about 3 or 4 times, after which I clicked the back arrow to return to the forum contents page. When I did that I got a 504 Bad Gateway error. Refreshed the page again and that's when I saw all the 15 extra posts. (there should have been only 3 or 4).
given all the glitches with the updating (and lack of warnings) lately, I thought that after those couple of clicks, maybe the Post Comment button was broken which is why I clicked on the back arrow. At least they honoured my request and removed all the extra posts.
I came to the right place to make sure this wasn't just me. Thanks.
Of course that was after the minor heart attack at thinking my thousands or purchases had disappeared... Product Library > Store Credit > Orders > Stroke averted.
not AGAIN!!
Yep... AGAIN!
If you're using Daz Deals plugin, go into Daz-Deal options and uncheck "Allow comments/labels on all products." Reload your product library page and you should be good to go.
I am and that worked, thanks!
Cool! Glad that helped you, Jason.
This is getting a bit tedious, to say the least. In order to get a freebie (or any other product) I have to make sense of what's visible in those tiny previews. The previews are tiny because the website is optimised for mobile phones and apparently there's no version for PCs.
So I scroll through page 1 of products and click on one of the arrows to get to page 2. Page 2 then opens at the bottom, which means I need to scroll all the way up, then scroll down again while trying to make out what's on the little previews. And the same for page 3, 4, 5 …
Seriously, who designed this website? Benny Hill?
I don't get it. "Tiny" thumbnails? They're the same size they've always been (on the main shop page and anywhere else), a little bigger than the "What's Hot" carousel thumbnails. Resizing the window only reduces or expands the size a little, until the number per row changes, up to 5 across max. Firefox and MS Edge. Could it be another side-effect of the DAZ Deals plug-in? Script blockers? The browser platform is usually detected by the page itself and displays the appropriate style.
Worse... the Marx brothers!
You can use ctrl + "+" / scroll to expand the size, see screenshot:
Yes, but you can't get rid of the selection categories filling up the left part, and you still have to scroll to the bottom to go to next page.
I have to agree with other posters that new layout is not really optimal, and what irks me the most, this is just the latest of a string of failures to improve shopping experience.
In my opinion it started when Daz changed the original top banner to current roulette. I much prefered to see all flash sales etc. at one glance when I opened Daz shop page instead of clicking/waiting for roulette to show what Daz has to offer today. Then in their wisdom Daz started removing required links from texture/iray addon sets, so I don't even see if I own the required product. Next was this new extra click to close popup when you put something in shopping cart, and that popup doesn't even show correct prices. There's been so many updates that I probably forgot some already, and just learned to cope with the current nonsense, but I'm having a really hard to time finding anything positive to say about this latest one...
Lets' start: Latest update messed up product ordering ( showing some trending or whatever when it says it shows latest ) so I always have to reorder list pages again. It also removed pager from top of the list page so when I want to change page I always have to scroll to bottom. Also when changing a page, focus stays at the bottom of the page so extra scroll or click of that icon on bottom right corner to get back to top. Also can't find PA by typing their name in filters anymore, but instead of that there's some unordered ( at least not in alphabetic order ) list of PAs where I need to pick the one I'm looking for. Problem with this is that it's hard to find anything from unordered list especially since I don't even know if the PA is in that list ( like I used to check if there's any stonemason products on sales promotions ). And finally, product icons are so tiny on list pages that I can't see anything from those. I honestly thought that list pages had broken css until I realized this one was probably intended change. I have ultra wide monitor so for god's sakes use that space.
This is really bad web design and whoever is in charge of this update process really should take a look at the page now and ask if this is really an improvement. To not be a total ass, I have to admit that I do like it that PAs have started adding products that are used in promo images and I like the anchor element on top of the sales page that I can jump immediately to historical top sellers or whatever area of the page. If those who are responsible for website project need some ideas, I'd really could use filters where I could remove categories I don't want to see, like add new categories for characters, poses, addons, environments, scrips/plugins and stuff like that we can toggle on/off so it's easier to find what we are looking for. If you need advice, then whatever you have planned in your team meeting for the next improvement you really should stop it right now. Don't "improve" the Daz shop any further, or sooner than later it's impossible to do any shopping here anymore. Just ask the community what they want/need and stop "improving" the shopping experience on your own.
Worked for me too. Thanks!
