There is a converter. G8.1 converts G8 herself. No need for extras.

So does this mean that Genesis 8.0 functionally ceases to exist on your computer once you've installed ... well, that's where I'm confused. There don't seem to be any Genesis 8.1 Starter Essentials. Do the Defalut Resources themselves somehow upgrade Genesis 8 to 8.1?

8 is unaffected by 8.1. They are separate loads in the same package setup. You can continue to use both as you wish.

Interested in the eyes for sure.

But I doubt this update is going to change the fact that a skilled 3D Artist can make Aiko 3 jump off the screen to life.

While an everyday hack like myself will be able to make Victoria 8.1 look like a lump of high gloss plastic with something resembling a face.

Where in my PL do I find the Genesis 8.1 Female Starter Essentials? I didn't see any trace of it. Do I have to pay for GF8.1, or only for V 8.1?

Look for Starter Essentials in your Library. The zipfile for Genesis 8 Female starter essentials includes both 8 and 8.1.

V 8.1 is a purchased product, Genesis 8.1 is free.

The seemingly easier expression features is of course tempting... On the other hand: I have so many Genesis 8.0 characters aquired, that it is just frustrating.

So, I will wait until one noble soul creates a converter smiley

It works no differently than it would transferring your characters from a Victoria 8 base to a Babina 8 base. To do this I loaded Genesis 8.1 Female and added the materials, shaping preset, and anatomy addons from the character's folder just like with G8F.

ok, here my questions and i hope any mod can answer:

1 - interactlive licenses - the interactive license for the 8.0 still valid for the 8.1?? or i have to pay for a "new license" to use the 8.1?

2  the "new eyeslash" looks like a sort of fibermesh or dforce hair, or not?? i means i can still use the "old eyeslash??? just in case?? i means, because for game dev using high poly "eyelashess is bad,

3 - all the body hair is optional right??? i can use or not right???

as the others told srry but i'm not gonna buy again "victoria, michael and many others characters "again" just because specially now with the "overpriced bundles with costing more with less stuffs, really srry even the new victoria bundle feel really bad it come just with victoria as character come with 2 random "props" for scene, only 1 outfit and 2 hair 3 poses, srry basically 10 stuffs and from those 10 stuffs only really 2 are really good for me and all that for 150buckets even witht he 51% discount still a lot expensive for a overpriced pack, i'm really start to think which i gonna still using a lot the old 8 before i even think in upgrade it for 8.1 it's is really feeling not good for me for what i could see so far.

It doesn't sound like 8.1 is backwards compatible?

Note that your Genesis 8 products should work with Genesis 8.1 characters, with the exception of some expressions. However, you cannot apply your Genesis 8.1 content to Genesis 8 or earlier characters

...which makes this week's PC freebie useless unless you buy into the new version. I rarely pass up the weekly freebies, but if this is going to be a new trend (like 8.1 poses, clothing,  hair, etc), I feel the value of my membership has lost a bit.

I've remained with G3 for the most part as I could not afford to reinvest in all the utilities, resource kits, morphs, and such all over again.

Wondering when all we will be seeing is 8.1 content.  At least G8 clothing and hair content is backwards compatible with G3.  For poses you need a converter script but there is a free one available.

I downloaded the starter essentials update but cannot see anything different other than having to start CMS again

I'm really happy they did cross-compatibility for the gens. Something I wasn't expecting but was pleasantly surprised to see is that Vicky 8.1 has materials for both anatomy types.

In addition to the Genesis 8 Female, there should be a Genesis 8.1 Female in your characters.

I'm also not seeing the new figures. Downloaded everything from DIM, the name of the item in the Figures tab is now Genesis 8 Male PowerPose Templates, but it still seems to have the same items in it as before, no new figures.

  • Same. No new characters. No Genesis 8.1 figures.

I can see some kind of 8.1 shader or something, but when I click on the option/tree, there's nothing underneath it.

I'm on 4.15.0.2 (Public Build)... but I'll try the regular channel.

Where is the new velus hair in G8.1 as statet?

    • Fine, short, vellus hairs have been added for the female face and body, bringing added realism for close-up shots. For example, fine, short, and natural hairs can be seen on the arms and face."

By uninstalling the Genesis 8 package through DIM and re-installing it the figure has appeared for me.

Ok, question from my side after reading all your comments.

It looks like I don't need V8.1, as there is a new Genesis 8.1 character now available for me. And I should be able to use my 8.0 characters on the 8.1 base, do I get this righ? They are all made with different texture maps, so if I apply this to the new G8.1 character, where is the benefit? I just exchanged the base, but the look and feel will still be like the character before? That's the part I don't get for now.

Characters made moving forward on the new base UV sets will have improved texel density. Also the tear geometry and eyelash geometry are much improved. The FACS facial rig for expression is also pretty darn spiffy if you ask me. It's much easier to get a natural expression in the new setup.

If you have done the update, you will see G8F, G8M, G8.1F, new additions to Anatomy such as the Tear for Genesis 8.1.... all geografts, textures, all the morphs I find work in the 8.1 figure.  The 8.0 figure works the exactly same as it did before.   Some expressions don't seem to work within the Expression settings but they may work as poses (i haven't tested)... but the skin is excellent, and the xtra expression bones give a more natural look.

As much as I can see this is a huge improvement, I'm not in any rush to buy into 8.1. See how it all plays out, it's early days, I got mostly 8 stuff anyway, wait until there is more content to make a decision.

Some of the stuff I work on in my VN, uses models from Genesis(1) and G3, just because nothing like it exists at 8, rather not too many changes when I'm this new to Daz3d.

Actually, the G8.1 F poses work on G8F.

Yes. But, your old materials will still apply as they are without any extra work from you. The programmers did some really cool stuff to make sure what you have wasn't made obsolete. The new body and head section can use the new UV and the old one just as easily as the other.

I just downloaded the update through DIM and tried some of the feature.  I noticed that there is a Body and Head section in the Surface tab.  For the "Body" part, I can use the "Torso" part from G8F characters, including those created through SkinBuilder.  However, I doi not know how to address the new "Head' section, as there is no compatible item for that in SkinBuilder, or previous G8F character.  How can this be addressed?  Thanks in advance.

Okay, I had to do the same to get Genesis 8.1 Female to show up.

Very interesting. Shows up with all the Genesis 8 morphs, but (as noted before) the Surfaces are different.

Materials, Hair, Props, Poses, Wardrobe, etc. ... all seems to work directly with what you have in Genesis 8. It's coded to act like Genesis 8 for Smart Content. The Genesis 8 and 8.1 figures seem interchangable from that perspective. (Genesis 8.1 uses the A pose (like Genesis 8) rather than the T pose of Genesis 3.)

Loading 3rd party Anatomy from another site... some of it still works, kind of, if you account for the Surfaces. This means you need to do some manual Copy/Paste because the Surface names are not the same (Body versus Torso) and the UV setup seems to be a little different (you may have to change the UV that you paste onto the prop). Anatomy that uses a Script to copy textures from the Figure to the Anatomy prop will not work very well for these reasons.

Just did some very quick looking around.

This is just my personal exploration. YMMV.

Looks like all my 8.0 clothes are working (I haven't tried them all but I'm seeing no issues with what I have tried.).

Hair is working, however Charli hair asks what model it's for (no option for 8F....8M however was available...weird) but it works using unsupported. Other hair seems to work fine.

Most if not all expressions using dials work fine (there are also some new ones) however the preset expressions don't seem to work.

    Poses, however, work fine.

3rd party anitomical elements are not currently functioning. One will not load and one will not pick up materials. There's another that won't pick up materials as well. Until those are updated you won't be using them on 8.1.

All the 8.0 assets stay in place and work the same so everything you have works on 8.0 just fine.

Definiately a point upgrade. This isn't enough different to be a whole version up.

Overall I think she looks great and offers a few new tricks.

I'm not a fan of HD being seperate and find it to be a little shady but am not overly annoyed.

Just did the following: Loaded 8.1 Female, applied head & body morphs of a character, and on the right is the loaded figure on 8.0. You can load the textures as well, but this removes the 8.1 skin or course.

Here's a pic of how it looks, morphs all looking fine. It's 8.1 base with head & body morphs vs. the original character 8.0 with all textures applied to it. However, not all of my expressions made for 8.0 work on 8.1, unfortunately.
