+1 Those huge stitches on our left, above the chest- what the heck?
I still don't like the hood, no matter how much it can be tweaked. But thank you Mary for showing us all the sliders.
Kind of like how other vendor's have their "things" (like signature chins and lips), slightly bigger heads are a "thing" with Daz characters, just like massive traps on guys and deep nasolabial folds eeeverywhere. In their defense, it's pretty typical in 3d stuff (and 2d stuff) though, as it makes it easier to see peoples expressions, so is usually done without even noticing.
Darcy 8's head is really, really huge though.
I'm on an iPad so I can expand the screen
It's also very evident for me even without seeing the picture at full resolution.I was thinking of getting Aubrey for the shape and the nice texture but now, the texture is not appealing to me anymore.
I'm not getting a new character ath this sort of price just for the shape. I have more than enough of those.
Yeah, boy....a Kenshi or Nightwolf....yep yep yep.
I'm having a good laugh at this one. This was the one thing I really liked in the promos, so I clicked on the above. Yep, I already own it, and the add-ons. I think it's time to do a lot more rendering.....
Nether good nor bad just meh. Another charater instantantly recognisable as a DS/Poser model. The valley people know what all the DS uncanny people will look like.
Give me something that for one second I don't instantly recognise as yet another variation of Genesis. I suppose we're restricted by the base model and how far it can be manipualted.
Yeh, they all look different but at the same time all have the same look.
Tons of tools available to change that... ^^
If we start rendering more, we won't have time to shop!
@barbult and @Novica
Just loaded a fresh copy of the sweater onto a character and looked at the shoulders. I realized that the shoulders you saw, I had to use Mesh Grabber on, to clean-up the poke through I had from the blouse and Mesh Grabber created an unintended consequence to the knitted material. I was going to try dForcing the outfit item by item, but it was late and the pose, set, and my patience last night hit a wall.
What I am seeing looks like almost a rib stitch, but not quite. I can knit, but honestly have no patience for it. I seems to be that they either added stitches or enlarged the needles at the shoulders to create a wider space for the pattern, then below where it looks like darts, they did something that I am at a lost to explain. Like a dart that is inside out.
I have never made a knitted sweater or other garment so I may be totally off. Maybe someone on the forums can look at the attached render of the shoulders?
Mary
That looks intentional. Its not a perfect sweater, but it doesn't look like a a texture or modeling glitch.
One pet peeve are all the perfect bits. Everything is neat and clean, as if it just came out of a factory. In some cases that's great, but if you're doing any sort of 'realistic' look, that is something to fight against.
Well I tried to dForce it again in an extreme pose, and poke throughs showed up on the arm, thighs, bottom area, and neck. I tried to fix with sliders, avoiding Mesh Grabber and no luck. Other tricks didn't work. Was going to render what I had, and went to use a new set and the character went out of focus. I had to clear the scene and will be rebooting DS and my computer. I think this is jinxed.
This is a pity, I love the style of the outfit. I am going to keep trying. Something has to work.
I happen to be a professional knitter.
I don't have the item so I can't tell for sure...
Just judging by those two renders... It's a bit confusing but I'd say the effects I'm seeing around the shoulders are technically possible, but they're not necessary to achieve the shape of a garment like that.
Sometimes a client will ask us to add effects like that for aesthetical reasons. But in this case it's all a bit puzzling because the irregular effect doesn't look very nice. Well, at least it doesn't to me.
ETA:
Ok, I took a closer look at the official promo renders and I can see that the cardigan has overall an irregular thing going on, not just around the shoulders. This is indeed something that clients will sometimes request.
I just don't think it's particularly well executed, I have to say.
I also noticed that some of the stitches on the sleeves appear to be going the wrong way.
There's nothing to fight against. Because "just out of the factory" is how clothes ARE going to look until you wear them awhile! So why is that unrealistic? All my renders are not going to be "okay, this has been worn for months...."
If a product is rendered neat and clean, Mesh Grabber or dFormer can mess it up if you wish. I'm not sure if it would work the other way around. Anyone try it?
Yes, but it really depends on the mesh. If the messed up bits are modeled in, it's been a waste of time for me. However, a good number of those use the textures and transmaps to add tears and such, so using shaders or creating clean material maps will work.
But I'd rather start with a "just bought this from the boutique" look and mess it up myself.
Just my 20¢ (Adjusted for inflation. I know, it should be $20 these days, but "dollars" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "cents"…)
Like the character but that's about all.
At first, I bought pretty much every G8 bundle. But since last summer, there has been an increasingly large number of pro bundles that end up as a pass for me and this one is counts amongst those. The quality of the content in this is more along the lines of what you'd see at the other big store.
I'd even go as far to say that the overall quality of content available here has dropped over the last year or so...
This is Camilla for Aubrey 8 in the Long Tunic and Skirt Outfit and Dolly Hair. I used one of the walking down stairs poses from ROG and put her in the ROG Red Crow Inn. Then had to find Mesh Grabber (deleted by DAZ Central) and fix some poke through on the knee. The tunic was very shiny, so I messed with the Surfaces settings (something I hesitate to do, but a plastic look was just wrong.
Camilla is lovely. The tunic has a 'dickie' insert. The simple shoes are like heeless shoes. Very interesting. It is not listed as dForce, but I applied dForce to the tunic and long skirt and did not have any more issues with them, than I might with an official dForce outfit. The tunic and skirt both have adjustment morphs.

Well, things usually just aren't factory fresh. Already we're fighting against pure colors, flawless skin, etc., when you're trying to render out a more realistic image. Snags on a sweater can go a long way towards giving it that verisimilitude.
But its just a stylistic choice, there is no right answer.
Well, I ended up getting the bundle because I liked some PA addons and still found enough Daz freebies I could use but I'm hoping it wasn't a big mistake. No matter what I did, I couldn't make Aubrey even the slightest attractive. I ended up using her at 50%, mixing in a ton of morphs which I'm still not really happy with, added different eyebrows and eyelashes. BUT I did figure out a way to use that crazy makeup although I still can't figure out what those two white dots are on the lips...
She got the purple magic! I thought the idea of Aubrey was to be NOT attractive. She's the librarian or the sidekick or the schoolmarm.
I was going through Genesis 8 Core Females today, and I'm thinking we need 3 or 4 very pretty YOUNG white girls about now of different types.
There are two new ones in today's sale. Lola is adorable. And TONS in the store. The unattractiveness of Daz Core characters often can lead to interesting ways of making attractive characters interesting and unique but Aubrey, even at 50% was difficult to make attractive. Probably better to take an existing attractive character and adding a touch of Aubrey rather than the other way round.
25% Aubrey with different morphs. I like this one better. At least I found something to do with that purple makeup lol!
Awesome! She reminds me of Melinda Clarke:

What hair and jacket is she using in this image? Thanks!!!
