I MIGHT be getting a better discount than I'm supposed to. It's confusing.
    http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/36427/

One thing- if you are seeing the popup that says get 45% off the glute control for Gen2, remember if you qualify from the other promos (buy 2 new releases, get additional 14% off entire store) than it also gets added to that 45%. It took it down to 7.55 in my cart.

    15.95 full price x .55 (because .45 off) = 8.77 x .14 off is another 1.23 off = 7.54 (off by a penny)

That 14% off entire store is NOT working on new releases. I'm not finding anywhere that is says they aren't included. It says no returns.

Check out the thread I linked to and see if I am off base here. Wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks, Novica! I had the Shape Shift for G2M on my w/l. I would have missed the 45% off if not for you. :)

Old Cemetery (Aako) Store On Sale
    http://www.daz3d.com/old-cemetery

First, it's FAST. At .20 shading rate, it was at 15% in a minute and a half. It has deep shadow maps, I am rendering with those even though I usually change to ray tracing. Render is big at 1400 pixels wide and shading rate .20

41% at two and a half minutes. Am usuing the lights that come with it.
62% at three and a half minutes.
67% at four and a half minutes (started on the ground plane)
    Ground plane looking very good!

80% at only six and a half minutes!

Will post in a few minutes. But IMO, it's worth getting if you want an overcast sky and a good woodsy ground plane that is crisp. Won't be a LARGE ground plane but you can scale- and worth getting if you want something that renders nice, crisp, and fast!

    EDIT: DONE IN 8 MINUTES.
Really like the ground plane, the trees need either some postwork to smooth those limb bends or a smoothing modifier. This is out of the box, with the included lights and settings. No changes. You can turn off or move every single piece of this product. I really like it!

You're welcome :) I missed it though because I was trying to figure out what the discounts were on other things in the cart. Too funny! Not a problem, I'll pick it up later.

Next, will bring in a person and test the lights from Old Cemetery on that person. Will put the face where that tombstone is and see how it looks. :)

    Today’s Review is:

    I Will Protect You
    http://www.daz3d.com/i-will-protect-you
    By Muscleman

Backdrop used: Portrait Paper Backdrops, cropped and used as a backdrop
    http://www.daz3d.com/cyclorama-portrait-paper-backdrops

Backdrop used final image: Dm's Mixed Fantasy
    http://www.daz3d.com/dms-mixed-fantasy

This is actually the first pose set I ever purchased, and I still am quite fond of it. I really like rescue/danger/people in jeopardy renders and “I will Protect you” has a great collection of 20 v4 and M4 poses, all placing v4/m4 characters in situations of danger, or disaster.

I found the poses work quite well with Gen2 characters with some adjustments. Mainly the hands and fingers of course, but sometimes I had to move an arm or hand to suit these characters. In some situations tilting or twisting the head might work better (I wanted for example to have M6 to tilt his head to look at Olympia 6, but I tried to preserve as much as the base pose as possible). In any case, these poses will make a great starting place for those who enjoy rendering couples, like v4 and m4, or don’t mind a bit of tweaking to make them work for Genesis or Genesis 2.

One thing to note, is there are no expressions, so you have to dial or use your own. Also note, Handy Dandy came in handy as usual to correct the hands for gen1/gen2 characters but there are some extreme hand positions in the set, which may require further adjustment for gen2 characters.

In any case, I really like this set. I’ve used the poses quite a few times, and it is a wonderful set for adding some action and drama to your renders. =-)

Images 1-3 P different images using these pose sets.

It's the first time I see this, thanks :)

    Let's KIT BASH!
Here's a challenge for you folks- take 2-3 clothing products YOU HAVE NOT USED BEFORE and kit bash. (Combine them.) I went with Piranha Zipper Dress as my first choice, then had to find something to go with it. I chose Street Mage for Genesis. I used 2 items from both the first and second products (top and gloves from Piranha, and coat and pants from Street Mage.) What can you come up with?

Old Cemetery (Aako) (Scene AND Lights- None Added)
Megan for Victoria 4.2 and Genesis (Artemis3d) (Character)
Alysa Character And Hair (Valea) (Hair)
Piranha Zipper Dress (DAZ 3D / 4blueyes) (Top, Gloves)
Street Mage For Genesis (DAZ 3D / Bobbie25 / Sarsa) (Jacket / Pants)
High Drama 2 (DAZ3D, FeralFey) (Pose / Left Hand)
Hand Details For Genesis 2 Females (FeralFey) (Right Hand Only)

    http://www.daz3d.com/old-cemetery
    http://www.daz3d.com/megan
    http://www.daz3d.com/alysa-character-and-hair
    http://www.daz3d.com/piranha-zipper-dress
    http://www.daz3d.com/street-mage-for-genesis
    http://www.daz3d.com/high-drama-two
    http://www.daz3d.com/hand-details-for-genesis-2-female-s

The default lights are very bright when you add characters. The images show out of the box lighting, and then fill lights increased (makes ground and tombstones brighter) with the key light dimmed. I also changed to raytraced- if you change the lights, you will get those pesky artifacts if you keep it shadow mapped.

Megan is easy to light- but of course it is- it's by my favorite artist for females, Artemis3d. Shown out of the box.

High Drama 2 was used for the general pose, and the hand to the mouth. That pose brings BOTH hands to the face, I lowered one. I think it looks much better- you can see the finger to the mouth. Both to the face would be better for the petrified look, this is the split second "What do I do now?!" look.

Hand Details For Genesis 2 Females- note it is NOT for Genesis- worked perfectly for the hand closest to you!

The Fabricator was used on the pants (which you can't see!) and the headband. Will do different lighting etc. I still need to do closeups of Megan for you.

You will really like Alysa Hair- the Wind 1 and 2 swings the hair nicely, and you can use it just to keep it from poking down into the chest. The hair is very easy to use and renders quickly.

EDIT: LOVE THE GROUND!!!!! VERY DETAILED!

And this is Megan with just the Old Cemetery lights, tweaked, with the main one dimmed and the two distant ones increased so the ground and the tombstones light up more. I will post the Depth of Field settings so those of you who are still trying to figure that out can have another setup to tweak and explore. I'll give you the character coordinates too. Coming up in a few minutes.

I can tell I am going to use this setup for lights, and add a spotlight over the shoulder and from the side, and make it pop. I like this though, all for $5.56 (50% as bought 2 new releases and was in promo store, plus the 14% so 64% off. Been wishlisted awhile.)

Depth of Field settings for a closeup with fuzzy background:
That tombstone that is in back of her (at her left shoulder) is roughly -233.55 / 25.30 / -294.00 for xyz translation. So anything there will be fuzzed out, and it's pretty close to her in the scene.

The character is the same as that, but change your last one to -175.01 (for z translation)
    Rotation is 0 / 11.15 / 0

Camera settings: turn on Depth of Field (go into Lights and Cameras activity tab at top, then Cameras)
    Focal:
    length: 57.37
    distance: 106.86
    F/Stop: 38.29

    Have fun experimenting!

@Novica: I don't think I've seen that Cemetery before. Good work on that DOF in that last one. DOF is a tricky thing to get right, is that sky part of the set?

@Muscleman: I love your work, and that was my very first set. I still use it occasionally, since it has a nice variety of poses, and I'm quite fond of rescue scenes.

  • NovicaNovica Posts: 23,859

Yes, this set is awesome. It is a 180 degree sphere for the sky and easily moved. (Moves quickly)
The ground plane moves INDEPENDENTLY of the grass and ivy- so if you want to move it due to the camera angle, the ground will slide over yet your carefully place figure won't have the grass or ivy trodding over their feet- it will stay put. AWESOME!!!!

EDIT: All props move around. Very flexible.

Old Cemetery is still on sale, that store is still offered as a 50% one in todays sale when you buy two products. So is the gal I featured (Megan) from Artemis3d. Her eyelashes are a bit much for me for closeups, far away is fine but "in your face" due to the thickness. Did not experiment with thinning them and I think all makeup options had them thick but not sure.

One mistake NOT to make- you get the 14% additional off if you buy two "year of the horse" new releases. Dummy me kept thinking it was two horse products. Not my most brilliant deduction. When you click on those banners across the top, and it drops you down to the horse category, that may throw you off if you're a rocket scientist like me. (Sarcasm.)

The horse sale applies to gift card purchases. I didn't see anywhere that they were discountable, but when I put the giftcard in the cart at the same time as the horse purchase I got a substantial discount on it. Since I prefer using store credit (it saves multiple charges on my accounts), this is a bonus.

I wanted the discount on the gift card and was curious a bit about the tattoos so I picked up 2 items today.

    Inked Volume 2 (ShanasSoulmate)
    http://www.daz3d.com/new-releases/inked-vol-2-for-genesis-2

    and Espresso set (Imaginary_House)
    http://www.daz3d.com/espresso-set

My feeling is I felt the tattoos seem more suited for females. (This is perhaps a taste thing) Perhaps a male tattoo pack for gen 2 males?

the Espresso set doesn't appear to have an actual filled espresso cup that I can see. The filled cup is actually hot cocoa from another set. I do really like this set. It looks quite realistic. But it needs coffee/espresso to make a realistic render in my opinion.

One thing I discovered is Country kitchen doesn't do bad job as an urban apartment!

Love your lighting and the use of the kitchen, very clever! Is that Telephony and Everyday Stationary?

I'm waiting on the expresso because I will need two items tomorrow and I picked up Bryonia and Sickle Rig item for today.
Are you kidding- there's no filled coffee option??? WOW.

Everyone note that the CandeeCurlz we discussed last month or earlier this month is on sale in Fast Grab:

Yes I am afraid it is true. 8-/ The lack of espresso in an espresso set seems a huge oversight in my opinion. I guess I just assumed one would be sold with it. I guess I am so very wrong.

Yes, you are correct Tele-phony and Everyday Stationary. I've been wanting to use the phones for something. There is also a tiny cell phone in his hand in the first picture from Tele-phony..

I find the kitchen is somewhat lacking in detail. But it works as a room if you spruce it up..

A test with an LIE based texture product made to apply to M5 and V5 textures:
Skin Overlay for V5 and M5 Skin Sets
    http://www.daz3d.com/skin-overlay-for-v5-and-m5-skin-sets

I applied Michael 5 Elite Skin Texture Dave
    http://www.daz3d.com/michael-5-elite-skin-texture-dave
which I had previously converted to .duf to the G2M Dan shape.

After making sure the UV Set was set to Michael5 in the surfaces pane (for some reason this comes up blank when applying an M5 texture),
I applied moles, vascularity, age wrinkles and skin details with Skin Overlay.
Since this works by way of the LIE, it is likely that any LIE based product (like tattoos) should work.
Someone with the M5 tattoo product should be able to verify this.

I'm doing Chablis right now, scene rather complicated so taking a couple days. If you'd like to do her too, that's fine, or just continue doing your own thing. If folks want to post renders of their Morris's that would be fun but I hope folks know I wasn't trying to push it onto anyone.
And yes- Chablis has great lights- was going to mention that when I did the review :)

Do you happen to know what thread you posted Ohia in? If you can find the link that would help out a bit- but if not, I'll find him eventually :) I remember it was a great render.
