I resisted the flash sale. The complaint is that I'll probably regret it before the next time Faveral's stuff goes on sale.

  • i did not see anything i had to have... i saw some wouldn't mind having but didn't want anything enough to go even more over budget.

I should buy a new wireless router soon.  It reboots for no reason.  I won't render anymore artwork using Daz Studio until I install a new hard drive.

Complaint:  Arghhh... My brakes broke.  A couple months ago I took my car in for an oil change and my trusted mechanic warned me that my brakes were going to need replacement shortly, but that they might last until my next oil change (3000 miles).  I've been dutifully watching my milage and paying attention to my brake behavior.  Today, for the first time I noticed brake chattering and glanced at my odometer, I was 5 miles short of my 3000 mile oil change interval. frown  Damn, that mechanic is good! surprise  I'd been hoping to put off another big car bill until my next paycheck (mid Aug.) but I've left the car at the shop for repair tomorrow.  $$$ crying

My model has a weird hip crease...

I was going to attach the image but I'm not comfortable posting it here even with toxic zones covered. I posted it on my deviant art page. .

That is a weird looking crease.  I think Victoria 4 has a similar issue.

yeah  mechanics like that are hard to find.    Himself had one used to look after our 20 odd year old Toyota (1994 reg).  If he wasn't there when Les took the car up he would wait till he was back on duty, wouldn't let anyone else touch the car.   He had warned that the car wouldn't pass it's next MOT without some major work   so when himself passed I decided the car would have to be let go,  as I couldn't justify the cost of repairing and running it for the amount of times I woulod actually use it.

  • I must resist the urge to buy more models... must resist... RESIST!

I also must stick to my shopping guidelines! Draw a line in the sand (on how much I spend) and say: "No More!", "You Shall Not Pass!", or similar.

Was about to buy more hair and another model... but... I resisted.

    I'm a good girl.

I should reward myself with... no no no...

    must resist... RESIST!

Right now is actually the time to save up some moneyz and hold off on buying too much. We've got almost three months of sales and Offers You Can't Resist coming in a few weeks.

I'm weak... but I'll do my best to be strong.

Add on complaint: I need my artpad. My niece has it and hasn't given it back. :(

It woud be useful when using photoshop to do some corrections and final touches. Krita and Gimp don't seem to be able to do some of the stuff I vaguely remember doing in PS... Of course the version I have of PS is ancient...

Are you trying to kill me? cheeky I wish I had water dropplets/wet skin. mmhmm... I've been playing with making water but I've not been all that successful.

You can switch the Viewport to Smooth Shaded (the spehere icon to the left of the camera/view picker button, at top-right of the Viewport) - that would probably show the crease still.

It might help to apply a Smoothing Modifier to the figure, with the smoothing type set to Generic, but there's a risk that would smooth too much (we can't control smoothing with a weight map as we can some other things). Is the crease dependent on the shape applied or is it there even with a zeoed shape?

Complaint:  Arghhh... my car is on its deathbed.frown  My trusted mechanic called me back with major bad news.  Not worth spending $500 on new brakes, then $600 on another round of underbody chassis work and $400 on new shocks.  I cannot budget for a newer car.  I am to join the "carless ancient ones".  Majorly bummed! sad

Non-complaint:  No more $60 gasoline bills.  No more monthly $70 car insurance bills.  No more $1000 yearly maintenance bills.  No more car registration bills.  No more car inspection bills.  Yay?

I think it is an issue with the extreme placement of her thigh. I'd show you but nudity. A little smoothing in PS will clean it up. Thank you. I'm actually in the process of redoing the whole scene because I realized I can use negative gravity which is giving me more of the look I was going for. yes

Complaiiiiiiiiiiiint: I haven't been able to get my Sims 2 game to work properly on my desktop. There's some custom content that makes it crash when a house loads. I'm having really bad withdrawal. Maybe that's why I've been so Daz-obsessive recently. The worst part is that I play a shared family/story with my best friend. Now she's got withdrawals too, because I can't identify the corrupted files. nonocrying

Sounds like you want to add more light to fill in the areas thata re currently getting onyl bounced light (which takes much longer to resolve) while either turning all the lights down or adjusting the Tone Mapping in Render Settings (or both). The answer to graininess is almost always more light, but not just more intensity on the existing lights. Iray works by path-tracing, following the path of a light ray as it bounces around the scene; if there are areas that are not being directly illuminated then light paths have to bounce off othe surfaces to reach them, which will be fewer hits than areas that are directly illuminated with the result that they will look noisy for longer (soem pixels will be hit by a path and so lit, others will miss out and stay dark). Or at least, that is my understanding of the process - the advice is good (if it is a lighting issue) regardless, add some low-level lights to fill in the missed areas.

Another potential source of graininess is a more complex surface, often the eyes, which require more hits to resolve - as a result, if they make up only a small part of the image, the convergence ratio may be accounted for by other, simpler, areas of the image while those aprts are still far from converged. However, by your description I don't think that applies here.

I'm working on a set I bought this week. https://www.daz3d.com/sf-apartment

I can't recall what kind of lighting environment I had going on. I played with Tone Mapping a bit but everything was going so slow I couldn't tell if I was making things better or worse. One thing I did do was turn off the time limit. We'll see how it turns out. I'm sure once I get the image I like I'll post it (hopefully I'll remember what I did so I don't continue to complain about the same thing over and over).

It's slow to render yes. You can always denoise it - first one here is rendered in 10 minutes (GTX 1070), second one is the same one after denoising:

I'll have to experiment. Is that using the denoising settings in daz studio or photoshop or something else?

I can't say I have had many renders that go that fast. Most take hours...

    Edit: Apparently I have a GTX 1080

I'm using the NVidia denoiser, the same as Daz Studio uses but a standalone version. There is also an Intel standalone denoiser, many say it's better than the NVIdia one.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/316206/denoise-renders-and-save-a-lot-of-time-nvidia-not-reqd
    https://taosoft.dk/software/freeware/dnden/

Got to say... I've been using one of these (I forget which) and it has been giving me happy results. Thank you! THANK YOU!

I've put put some seriously noisy images through it and gotten nice results.

Do you really need brakes?... Stopping is so overated. Fred Flintstone just used his feet... that seemed to work.

But seriously, I get the brakes, but what’s the specific problem with the “underbody chassis work”?  What’s broken/needs fixing there?

Also how bad are the shocks?

Structural members of the unibody undercarriage frame are rotted.  I had it fixed  two years ago.  i.e. Metal plates welded on to enhance strength of what was left, but now more has rotted away and there isn't much to weld to anymore.  The retired guy (professional shop, but retired) that I had fix it before, for $500 seems to be out of  touch.  Away, out of business, dead?  Other places quote me $1200+.  Shocks apparently use an air pump to keep them floating but now the pump runs pretty much all the time.  Replacing them with strictly mechanical shocks is quoted as "expensive" (didn't ask).  Gas tank straps have rotted away.  Both rear brakes need pads and disk replaced.  And that was with just a quick inspection.  "Definately will not pass inspection" due in October.  sad  It's a shame, interior of car is immaculate dark grey leather, power seats all work, all luxury gizmos for 2003 installed, A/C functions, radio/CD/tape functions.  Beautiful car (from the inside).frown
