Ugh... that shadow looked better on the iPad... I need to learn Sketchbook’s tools better.

I also need to stop posting my stupid drawings... I’ll blame it on boredom this time.

Interesting... Apparently the Doctor Who series (2005 - to present and beyond), is going to HBO Max... $16 per month...

I think at some point every show should be it’s own streaming service with a monthly fee of at least $20... maybe $50... I want to have 9000 different subscriptions to fully enjoy my televiewing experience.

And the convenience of having to remember what is on which service, remembering the different GUIs or better yet, playing the “binge watch this series then cancel the service until the next season is available” game... such fun.

Sounds like you want to add more light to fill in the areas thata re currently getting onyl bounced light (which takes much longer to resolve) while either turning all the lights down or adjusting the Tone Mapping in Render Settings (or both). The answer to graininess is almost always more light, but not just more intensity on the existing lights. Iray works by path-tracing, following the path of a light ray as it bounces around the scene; if there are areas that are not being directly illuminated then light paths have to bounce off othe surfaces to reach them, which will be fewer hits than areas that are directly illuminated with the result that they will look noisy for longer (soem pixels will be hit by a path and so lit, others will miss out and stay dark). Or at least, that is my understanding of the process - the advice is good (if it is a lighting issue) regardless, add some low-level lights to fill in the missed areas.

Another potential source of graininess is a more complex surface, often the eyes, which require more hits to resolve - as a result, if they make up only a small part of the image, the convergence ratio may be accounted for by other, simpler, areas of the image while those aprts are still far from converged. However, by your description I don't think that applies here.

I'm working on a set I bought this week. https://www.daz3d.com/sf-apartment

I can't recall what kind of lighting environment I had going on. I played with Tone Mapping a bit but everything was going so slow I couldn't tell if I was making things better or worse. One thing I did do was turn off the time limit. We'll see how it turns out. I'm sure once I get the image I like I'll post it (hopefully I'll remember what I did so I don't continue to complain about the same thing over and over).

It's slow to render yes. You can always denoise it - first one here is rendered in 10 minutes (GTX 1070), second one is the same one after denoising:

I'll have to experiment. Is that using the denoising settings in daz studio or photoshop or something else?

I can't say I have had many renders that go that fast. Most take hours...

    Edit: Apparently I have a GTX 1080

I'm using the NVidia denoiser, the same as Daz Studio uses but a standalone version. There is also an Intel standalone denoiser, many say it's better than the NVIdia one.

I'll have to check them out. I'm kind of frustrated with my renders this week. I'm not happy with anything I've done this week.

    oh dear,

eye dr wouldnt give me appt cuz i owes monies.

they asked me to call collections, i said no.  lol  she was a bit flaggergastedery on the phone.

then they told me theyd give me contact info for a clinic.

I said i not letting a clinic touch my eyes.  i won't even let them take my blood pressure.

she said they'd call me next week. i shouldn't hold my breath.

i only called cause my left eye vision is foggier.  i have cataracts, but dr never mentioned doing anything about it.

Taoz... I gave that denoiser a try. It helps quite a bit. Thank you.

You should never let anyone touch your eyes... especially not random strangers on a subway or bus and definitely not Crab-People... it’s not their fault they have such pinchy hands, but safety first.

You should have the cataract taken care of... unfortunately you’ll have to go to some sort of medical facility... I’d definitely recommend against going to an  amateur cataract removal service... I’ve heard some of those guys that remove rotten trees will do it pretty cheap, but I don’t trust the precision or cleanliness of their chainsaws... There is that Crab-man that lives under the platform at the Wyandanch train station... News12 said he is pretty good... but that’s News12 for crying out loud.

I know you had a bad experience with such establishments, but if you let it go it will mess with your vision and they’ll take away your jumbo jet license.  I think you mentioned having one... I forget.

Unless you are tired of the whole jumbo jet scene... but as an owner of eyeballs, I think it’s very important to take care of them.  They help us see and allow us to enjoy onion juice to it’s full extent.   I hope you don’t mind me bringing up the incident that happened a few months ago... I hope you also realize I’m not making light of your suffering... I’m just trying to lighten the mood.  To be honest I’m still not 100% sure what happened, I did go back a while ago but it seemed like some info was missing or I couldn’t find it... I got the basic idea, and I didn’t want to pry... unless I did...

I remember thinking about asking what happened, but then I was like “don’t be nosy, it’s probably a sensitive subject and you are going to make it worse”... I may have even started writing something, but I think I deleted it... I was doing that a lot in the winter... writing something and deleting it... writing something and thinking I posted it and then a day later finding it and deleting it because it was moot... writing something and thinking I deleted it and then the next day seeing some respond to it...

In case I wrote something stupid, I’m sorry... anyway.. feel better and do what you feel is best.

Also definitely don’t hold your breath... especially not while waiting for the bus... if you pass out the raccoons will drag you off and make you their queen.

Its not as fun as it sounds, you’ll have to attend lots of royal raccoon ceremonies and wear royal garments made for you by the raccoons... they are really bad a sewing and their choices of fabrics leaves much to be desired.

    Anyway... Take care.

    Random Question...

Is 2048 too small or too big for a seamless texture?

I’ve been too lazy or busy to finish any of the models I’ve made as freebies lately (like a year or more?… or two?)... I’ve got so many textures I’ve made and I’ve been thinking of making some collections... most a 2048... but with a Full Render, Diffuse and Normal a decent size collection is easily over 100 Megabytes. I know people don’t like big downloads on ShareCG.

I do not have an answer to that question. I'm still trying to decide what to do today and it is past 3:30...

I did write some (I've been piddling with this story for weeks now)... I did the same render several times trying to figure out stuff. But promply forgot anything I learned.

Also, suddenly the voice in my head has a Scottish accent. I did fall asleep watching Outlander so that may explain that.

I tried to make homemade ripples... results have not been good. Quite possibly the opposite of good even.

I gave up trying to make homemade Ripple... You have to make a whole bathtub full of wine and then add some heavy grade moonshine and rotting fruit to have it come even close to tasting like classic ripple.  It’s cheaper just to go out and buy Thunderbird or Mad Dog.

    RIP Fred Sanford.

Have you ever had that thing where you used to belong to some community, and you were strongly influenced by their opinions and ideas, until you accepted that as the truth? Then life had you move on from that, and now you're surrounded by people who believe drastically different things. You used to be pretty darn sure that you were right and they were wrong, but by now it's been grinding on you for so long you're starting to doubt for real.

    (And no, they're not Nazis.)

It's called waking up.  Happens to a lot of people who are critical thinkers and don't let others dictate their thoughts.  It usually illuminates the world a bit more.

If that were true, that would be good. I fear it's the other way around, but I don't want to go into details.

  • Paradigm shifts can come at any moment.

    Or never.

It's like when I realized that capri pants weren't as cute as I thought they were.

  • And now... my Saturday morning complaints:

Well I was up to 10 complaints... then decided against it... I'll just say:

complaint: I'm complaining a lot today!

Then why bring it up?  "other way around" could mean a lot of things.  frown

Non-complaint:  Big weekend full of potential mini-adventures.  I think I'll go get a good ol' American hotdog with ketsup, mustard, pickle relish and onions, while shopping for homemade fudge, berry pie, and a BBQ chicken takeout meal with potato salad and baked beans for reheating tonight for dinner, after watching the chainsaw log cutting contest at the tiny town picnic in the park of the nearest town.  Wheee... smiley

Because I'm illogical and make no sense, I guess. I don't want to go into details because that would be politics, I just wanted to know if anyone had been in a situation like that, and what happened.

Sure... depending on how you view things... it could be skepticism, open mindedness or paranoid.

I’m naturally suspicious of all humans... the wolves that raised me made sure of that.
