My favorite is explaining to people that their electronic device isn't working because the red electrons can't get through a blue wire.devil  Or that batteries are heavy because of all the electrons packed in there.devil  They go away happy and It's so much easier on me than explaining the physics and watching their eyes hopelessly glaze over.crying   But when I get a laugh or even a confused question I think, "Ah, there is hope for the world".

When I was working at the Kennedy Space Center (1970s), I alone managed the programming and operation of the computers in the Special Measurements Division laboratory in the Launch Control Center.  One of the contracting companies hired a summer college kid to join the team in there and he was supposedly a computer person.  I initially welcomed the extra hands and brain but found out quickly that the hands had never worked electronics, and the brain was absent.  Many is the time I started to explain the basic operations of the computers or what a particular program did and why it was necessary, only to watch his eyes actually become unfocused, and his lids droop as an expression of complete non-interest flooded across his face.  At the end of summer he was gone and I went back to handling the entire show by myself without the distraction of trying to teach a slug to play piano.  I sometimes wonder what damage he's done in this world.indecision

Over the years I was there we had a few other summer students work in the lab with us.  Some were very good and had lots of promise.  It was a great environment for a student to pick up experience in.  We had a full electronic work bench with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, soldering station, wirewrap tools, two mini-computers with papertape, card readers, impact printers, (remember it was the '70s),1/2 inch digital tape drives, miles of data cables being fed into the room from hundreds of sensors around the entire Space Center grounds and launch facilities, early graphic display devices both CRT and paper, video equipment, even an early video disk recorder, a room full of 1 inch analog data tape recorders, and documentation & manuals out the yinyang.  For entertainment, out the back door of the building, Saturn rockets were being launched into space after they had rolled past the building on a truck as big as a 3-story office building with a roof half the size of an American football field carrying the Washington Monument.surprise

I've seen a lot of miraculous things related to computers.
Like in the early '70s when a scrawny geek was walking between desks with a 12" stack of punchcards. One of our jocks thought it would be funny to trip him, sending punchcards flying. Until the geek leaped on the jock and beat him severely.
Or when the grad student was carrying a platter stack for an IBM 360 by the handle of it's cover and the (fragile-extremely-expensive) platters fell out. The cover flew across the room as he dropped to a crouch, catching the platters on his outstretched arms just before they hit the floor. I never knew that a... heavy... grad student could move so fast.
Or the time the printer chain broke. That was messy.

I still have a surface tensionometer somewhere in storage, as well as a spectrometer. I need to make a display for them, their value today is too low to sell.

How does one get Studio4.11?  I'm currently running 4.9 Pro   I have an entry in my product list for "Daz Studio4.x Pro"  I used previously to make sure I at least had a copy of 4.10 in my archives in case despite never having installed it.  Now people say that 4.11 has been released and I tried that entry in my product list and it still points me to the 4.10 version.

Of course I'm making the assumption that the page that it sends me to has accurate information on it and is indeed still only 4.10.  I don't know why I make that assumption, based on frustrating experiences in the past, but let's say I'm an optimist in this case (yeah not normal for me).

This confusion happens to me every time a new release of Studio comes out.  I've got a "Pro" license for it but in the past when I've downloaded Studio from website's main brag page for Studio I get a "Standard" version.  The last time I upgraded (to 4.9) I can't remember how I got it up to "Pro" level but I think I used that entry in my "Product List".

Also, note that I do NOT use DIM or any other automatic downloader for any of DAZ's products.  I download and install everything manually by choice.

Should I have, or will I get, an entry in my "Product List" for Studio 4.10?  Do I use the entry for "Studio 4.x"?  Is it downloadable manually?  Can I use the "Standard" version from the website brag page and then upgrade it with my Pro license?  My brain hurtz!

I am not allowed any free time because I am “acting difficult”.  Too much stress on the room is breaking me down.

It is not the staff of the home who is trying to get me into the homeless shelter.  I do not know who is.  I thought my room looks better but I do not know anymore.

Thank you.  Cool!  I'll use that page.  But, just for jollies, if one started at the DAZ home page where does one find that page?  Which magical pokes at the website end up there?  Is this something new?  Or am I just hopelessly ancient and confused?  [Caution:  Grumpy Old Man Kvetch ahead]  Back in my day, one could recognize a button on a website.  It looked like a button.  Now days anything could (or couldn't) be a button.  Be it in big text, little text, picture, line, etc.  Back in my day web pages were not works of art, they were garish and lumpy.  Back in my day I could see tiny fonts, and wasn't distracted by floating detritus inside my eyeballs.  Back in my day, my brain was a Lamborghini.  Now it's a Yugo.  (*sigh*) [End GOMK]

Just click on the DAZ3D logo to go to the home page and there is a button that says free download which takes you to the page that I linked

Oh, OK.  That's not the page I was finding, or at least it was not the way I arrived at it.  I have a similar problem getting to my wishlist, sometimes it takes two attempts.

The problem with having a head full of old experience, is that sometimes all that old experience can't be unremembered and gets in the way of teaching old dogs new tricks.  (*sigh*)

I am waiting for my ride home so I can start playing with the idea of Thanatos who is called Daddy by my main character in my story I am trying to write.  I did not bring my computer but I am trying to develop what Thanatos and Lady Death look like.

Hmmm to get to my wish list I just scroll to the top of the page(any forum) and click on the person icon next to the cart  then I click on wishlist which takes me straight to the wishlist or click on my Account and then I pick wishlist

I have also learned to bookmark (click the star) discussions that explain things so I can find them later and not have to Gooogle search or wander through the forum threads hoping it isn't too far back........

My new flip phone has Wifi and an internet web browser?  I wonder if I can access Daz 3D and Renderosity on it.

Getting to my wishlist is problematic sometime.  I think it has to do with the two-logons (catalog and forums) thing and getting logged off spontaneiously at unsuspecting moments.  I sometimes click on "Wishlist" and end up at the main DAZ page and have to click on "Wishlist" again. frown I've given up trying to trace the problem.  I traced problems for 50 years.  Been there, done that.  Now I just poke buttons and hope.  Enjoying retired life as a Septuagenarian on a budget.indecision

I am starting to feel better.  Last night I woke up at 2 am to an upset tummy.  I am starting to feel better now though.  I will not go into details, but I am glad to feel better now.

On other notes, do I still need to keep DS beta around?

Non-complaint: I got a Chick-Fil-a free sandwich coupon.  Complaint I forgot to use it when I was near one today.  I doubt I will be near one tomorrow but I might be able to use it Saturday if I remember.

Non-complaint; staff told me basically from what I understand she will not get on my case about my room earlier today.  Complaint; staff forgot around night medicine time and asked me to clean my room.   I did tell her I wanted to rest today but she said she was trying to ask nicely with a please.

I am working on my laundry.  I am also trying to diagnose my issues with CMS.  I am not trying to stress myself out due to internal issues I had earlier today which has not totally resolved yet.

Non-complaint?:  I just looked out my window and saw a woodchuck browsing the lawn on the other side of the driveway.  I know we have rabbits, and deer and bear and wild turkey wander through here now and then but I've never seen a woodchuck in town.  They're usually out in farmer's fields.

One apple is too much to ear in one sitting.  Actually I think it is best to eat the apple instead of earring it.  Last time I checks ears are for listening not to put food in, but mouths are a great place for food, I guess.

Yes, adding "please" to a request morphs it into an order which must be obeyed.
Ask her nicely with a "please" to just leave you alone and see what happens.
(No, don't. It will end badly for you.)

The phrase "I'm asking you nicely" has always made me think of an iron fist in a velvet glove.
My previous girlfriend used to do this. Which is why she is my previous girlfriend.
