Why waste money on a fancy car or a yacht?

Cos ya need somewhere to put the kitchen . . . wink

...if I won a lottery I don't think that would be an issue.   You still need a place to put a fancy car or yacht (I certainly wouldn't leave the former parked on the street or in a common area car park like at a n apartment complex and the latter needs secure moorage).

I used to complain about the noise until I moved away from the Interstate highway and realized it was too damn quiet to sleep. frown  If there's no ambient noise around me when I'm trying to sleep I hear that incessant high pitched ringing in my ears and the more I try to ignore it, the louder it gets.  That's why my radio or my room fan runs all night.  Something to mask the tinnitus.  It was clearly a case of me doing too much listening! surprise

..it's been pretty quiet since the central postal distribution centre across the street closed down and moved out by the Airport. There was speculation Amazon might buy the property for a fulfillment and distribution warehouse but that was only rumour.  Instead as I understand the property will be used for a housing development (hopefully a low income one).

Well, yes, radio frequencies are out for Mars.  Howver, they must have optical telescopes at those locations.  If they can make a huge radio telescope, why not an optical one?  Even better would be two space telescopes in orbit on either side of the Earth!  That would be great, considering all the fantastic images we've gotten from the Hubble!

Great idea!  But it's already being done.  Has been done for years. surprise I've forgotten the name of the program, but yeah, when a particular need or opportunity arises, several optical telescopes around the world do combine their data.cool  But the technology, logistics and labor make it an expensive deal, so only the biggest needs get addressed.indecision

No, now wait a minute...  maybe I'm wrong. (It's happened once before)surprise  Maybe I'm just thinking of an individual observatory combining multiple telescopes into one big one.  Or perhaps I'm thinking of the common practice of combining various optical frequencies into one image covering everything from Infrared through X-rays.  I would seem to be more difficult to callibrate widely separated optical telescopes into one virtual telescope because of the vastly smaller wavelengths involved (nanometers v. centimeters).  And for this reason, combining two orbiting observatories would be extremely difficult because of the problem of knowing precisely where each telescope is in relation to the others in order to tweak the callibration.  As with much science, the concept is easy, but the implementation is a bitch. frown

We can join two ships (modules for the space station) with such precision that we don't bang them together and smash them into a million pieces.  Should be able align two space telescopes.  Maybe the differences in their abilities would make it difficult.  Not if they sent two up at the same time that were built from the same specs, though.  Of course, who will pay for that?

    ...speaking of Musk.

I was sitting outside at my local hangout last week on a nice afternoon when this car pulls up which had gull wing doors.  It wasn't some low slung half million dollar swoopy supercar, a DeLorean, or a classic Mercedes 300, but a somewhat bulbous looking sedan which turned out to be made by Tesla.

Hope they solved the door seal issue as "gull wings" tend to leak after a while.

I stopped using AdBlock Plus after a while, can't remember why...   Never used Chrome before though. Well not entirely true, I did use it a little but exclusively for a webapp thing for a game I played. Never used it for browsing or anything else though.  FireFox first and foremost, then Opera as a backup.

Anyway, see if uBlock's on the Chrome addons collection, maybe it might catch some things AdBlock isn't?  (Unless it's a browser thing)

Holy crap... I had a fun day...

I went to a car show in Captree State park... My friend has a 72’ Mercedes 600 which we went in... it’s a huge limousine-ish thing that looks like something a Bond villain would own... we went and looked at cars, hung out and talked about motorcycles and cars and stupid nonsense and I had a fun time... I feel like doing some modeling work now, but I’m sure if I start that, everything will go to hell.

Sounds like a great mini-adventure. yes

Back in the early '90s my other half had a bee in his bonnet about wanting a car of his own.  He found a used one for about $2000 and we went ahead and bought it.  A 1966 Lincoln Continental four door hardtop.  It had the "suicide" rear doors and beautiful leather interior, it ran great, everything inside worked, and it's body was in excellent condition for a nearly 30 year old car.  We only had it for about a year and it was only driven on Sunday afternoon for rides in the country (no, really!).  But we did take it on a mini-adventure from Washington, DC down to Williamsburg, VA for a Lincoln owner's convention/show/brag thing.  So, I grok where you're coming from, it was fun to see all those old cars and be part of the show ourselves.  We only used it sparingly because it guzzled gas and required leaded gasoline which wasn't easily available in the 90s and required the purchase of an expensive separate bottle of additive for each tankfull to avoid fouling the engine.   We ended up selling it to a collector who took it to Arizona to live out its days in a museum.  It was a fun big old car to tool around in but parking places in the '90s were not designed for those big cars from the '60s & '70s.  We never had trouble finding the car in a parking lot, we just looked down the row for the back end sticking out 3 feet farther than every other car in the lot.

Back in the early 90s, there was a KFC that I used to go to that had a drive thu... they had some landscaping done one day and for some reason made the driveway turn narrower... my 72’ Pontiac Catalina couldn’t make the turn... well, it did... but the shrubs didn’t make out so well.

I ran so many things over with that car... a shopping cart... a sofa... a small tree... a Porsche...

    Fun times.

Complaint / Non-Complaint: Real life is cuttung into my DAZ play time lately. As you may recall, my Cocker Spaniel succumbed to her lymphoma a month and a half or so ago. I had planned that that would be our last dog; BUT my vet found this sweet champion 8 year buff (same color as my previous dog) cocker spaniel who had been retired from breeding and was available for adoption at a small fee similar to that of other rescue organizations. And my vet even arranged for her to be brought from the breeder in Pennsylvania to the Outer Banks where I live. How could I refuse? So, long story short, the dog arrived Friday night and now most of my free time is devouted to taking care of the new dog and trying help her adjust to life here. For example she is crate trained but not fully house trained yet. If you are interested in seeing her scroll down this page and she is CH.Cocoas Royal Affair "KATIE"  http://www.cocoas-cockers.com/girls.html

    ...Nice,

always wanted a 1963 Lincoln in black with the suicide doors. Would have mounted speakers under the hood through which I would play the Peter Gunn and James Bond soundtracks while cruising slowly through town while wearing a black suit, white shirt, black tie, an old school earphone in the ear, and those black plastic rimmed sunglasses that government agents wore back in the 60s.
