...back to downloading and installing.  So I am only using the Daz 4.5+ Download Filter qt the moment to just install Daz4 Library content.  However in the last batch I downloaded there were a number of "DS" items that listed the install  path as "Runtime/Geometries" instead of "Data".  "Geometries" refers to the old Poser runtime structure, (< Daz 4.x) so why was that content not filtered out?  Having to go through each product to verify which install path to use is what I was hoping to avoid.

    Poser items with DS materials?

    ...yes.

For example I have a number of items that downloaded with the 4.5+ filter but all show install targets that suggest the Poser runtime structure such as:

Content/Runtime/Geometries/Moret/Mo-Racolet.obj.  (Racolet House which downloaded using the Daz Studio 4.5+ filter - all other filters unchecked).

I would think this filter would have screened out anything that didn't conform to Daz 4.5+ library structure.(eg. beginning with "Content/Data/[...]" as the install path).  Really confusing and very time consuming having to go through each and every item to determine where it needs to be installed.  This is why I wish there was some flag in the Download Tab to let one know what goes where beforehand..

They are still usable in DS 4.5+ so I would expect them to be tagged as compatible. I wouldn't expect a Poser version to show if it was not compatible with DS, or if it had a DS-native version too.

..so where to install?  Daz Studio4 or Daz Studio3?

    Complaint: WTF Apple?...

Apparently I never noticed at what point this changed, but in iOS, Apple has done away with “Block Third Party Cookies” for mobile devices.

With my old iPad I had it set to block all third party cookies... it would take a couple of days to reach 30 mb of cookies, and by then I’d have dumped most of them already... a couple of days ago I noticed it’s now (just like everything Apple) an all or none proposition now.

I noticed how bad it was a few days back when I realized I had over 800 mb of cookie data... stuff like mortgage refinancing sites or clickbait sites that I normally had to accidentally click on to have show up... it’s really disgusting how much crap instantly accumulates now.

344 mb of data for three website visits, from yesterday. Three. WTF?

I’d already decided to leave it on “Block All Cookies”, but 344 mb for nothing?

Blocking all cookies is a pain in the butt, many websites lose functionality, or in some cases won’t even work if cookies are blocked, you can’t view images in many and it’s a general annoyance.

The frickin’ slider should be labeled “Block All Cookies” -or- “Load Up My Device With As Much Data Wasting Invasive And Unnecessary Crap As Possible”... Because that’s what that last one amounts to.

Go to settings (the gear icon) scroll down to Safari (the Safari icon)... now you can do one of two things, either scroll down to “Clear History and Website Data” which I don’t like to do unless I pick up one of those “Congratulations Amazon (or pick any big company name) Customer, You have been selected to win a new iPhone XXVII, (click here)” popups... Unless I need to do a more complete purge like in that instance, choosing that option can sometimes wipe bookmarks (at least it has for me, so I avoid it mostly)...

The option I use, is to scroll down to the bottom and select  “Advanced” then in the next screen “Website Data”... In the next screen, you can either select “Show All Sites” if you need to or want to see how much garbage is there, or you can just scroll down to the red lettering “Remove All Website Data”...

That removes all the cookies and some cupcakes, as well as whatever “Fequently Visited” sites or open tabs you may have.

Choosing “Show All Sites” and then hitting “Edit” will allow you to delete individual cookies... one at a friggin’ time because this is Apple and they won’t let you select multiple items and delete groups of stuff in bulk... once again “all or nothing”.

Since you mentioned not knowing how to delete cookies, I figured I should mention that if you visit a site and inadvertently get one of those “Congratulations, you’ve been selected for a phishing scam” popups, don’t click anything, leave safari, close it out and got to settings, turn off WiFi, or put the phone in “Airplane Mode” and then go to Safari and delete everything using “Clear History and Website Data”... if you want to be extra sure you can reboot the phone after deleting the cookies... remember to turn WiFi back on or take it out of Airplane mode... which by the way is a very misleading term since your phone can not fly as one might expect while in that mode... hurmph.

Also when in the first Safari screen, make sure to check out the “PRIVACY & SECURITY” section to choose whatever options...

You may want to activate “Prevent Cross-Site Tracking”, “Fraudulent Website Warning”, and  “Ask Websites Not To Track Me” (that’s actually only a “request” which makes it optional for the websites to honor, so I’d wager NOBODY honors that since it’s only a request and not a immutable strict and unforgiving law that rains down holy fiery hell on anyone violating said polite request)... (still it’s worth a try).

Block All Cookies is optional depending on how much inconvenience you desire in your life versus how often you want to see “Congratulations...” popups or lendingtree, or spyingonyouandsellingyourdata cookies.

I don’t use Apple Pay (Screw that noise), so I have “Check For Apple Pay” turned off, you might want to do that too if you don’t use it.

And “Camera & Microphone Access” just seems like the next big news story waiting to happen, so for me that’s turned off too.

Sorry if you knew some or all of this.

    Good luck.

    1) Place cookie on iPhone

    2) Use stiff brush to scrub cookie.

    3) After cookie is reduced to crumbs, shake iPhone and examine for screen scratches.

So I just did a little experiment... I deleted all my cookies, put the iPad into Block All Wookies mode (yes, I accidentally wrote Wookies, but I’m leaving it)... went to Safari and went to The Commons, went back and turned on Cookies and signed in to DAZ’s forums...

Besides DAZ, there are cookies for... tenor, tumblr, payments-amazon, googletagmanager, facebook, youtube, ajaxgoogleapis, google-analytics, gstatic, googleleadservices, deviantart, bing, bpblogspot, fontsgoogleapis, newsarama, ytimg, flowergame, And dragcave...

    WTF is flowergame and dragcave?...

The last one sounds like a meeting place for prehistoric cross dressers...

12.8 mb of data, just to visit this one page.

EDITED TO ADD... So I looked those up... that’s Dragon Cave and Flower Game... I guess those are the things I see in people’s signature spaces...

Previously just visiting DAZ in the same manner with “Block Third Party Cookies” turned on would have only loaded five or six cookies... I think only three of those were related to DAZ.

This post is about a mature theme. Warning this is for adult audiences only.

    Okay. You understand it?

I hate paying too much on my phone bill.  Yeah, bills are an adult subject.  Kids do not pay bills.  I do not want to pay an extra ten dollars a month for ten gb of hotspot when I do not use it all.  I know a way to use it up in two to four minutes, but that involves Using it with my computer and DIM.

another complaint is I keep seeing ads for an adult theme slots game that I am getting tired of seeing, as I hate slots iPad games and that ad.  I do not think all adult emotions are sensual.  There is the feeling that one goes to work to know majority of the funds earned goes to rent, food or other bills.  The feeling rent is expensive but at least you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, internet to access a forum to complain, utilities to get showers and electricity, and other stuff.

not all “adult” emotions are “good”.  I know my grandmother has the feeling of getting old and loosing friends to old age.  It is good for her to be alive but not fun for her to go to funerals.

I saw a comic strip about a kid asking what are adult situations and got the answer of basically going to work and paying bills.

McGyver - thanks for the info.  I'm planning to buy a smartphone when I go on an international trip with my mom.  Some cell phne companies have expensive rates.  One prepaid plan  that I examined cost $15 USD but it only lasts one week.  I might end up using a free wifi connection or an internet cafe instead of 3G/4G data.

Complaint:  Help, I've become one of those ancient people who live life by repetative schedules while waiting to die.frown

Change it up, unless there's something preventing you from doing so.  There's nothing wrong with a repetative schedule, as long as you are ok with it.  However it sounds like at least at the moment, it's making you unhappy.  Do something different.  Throw an element of randomness in.  Meet a new friend, start a new hobby, take a class, go someplace you haven't been before, try a new food, volunteer for something.  You can always go back if it didn't help.

We need an emoticon for "tongue-in-cheek". enlightened Despite the facts that I'm not rolling in money, I don't have gaggles of "friends", my health isn't perfect, and I don't get out very often, I am not unhappy.  On the contrary, I have a firm grip on my conclusions about Reality, Life, the Universe, and Everything.  At this point in my life it's the most important thing to have.  My comment about "becomming one of those ... people" is one of a series I make now and then poking fun at various stereotypes.  I have friends and the few (very few) that I really think of as friends are still in touch with me if they're not dead.  Some people need other people in their lives and feel lost living alone.  But I live alone quite happily and have most of my life.  With physical limitations setting in these days, I have found various instruments to scratch my back, trim my toenails, and knead my feet.  However, when it gets to the point that I need someone to wipe my butt and turn me over in bed to keep me from rotting unevenly I'll get professionals to do it.  I make my simple life an adventure.  Witness my excitement over what I call micro- and mini-adventures.  And every few years or so I have a grand adventure usually wiping out half my pitiful savings account.  Others might see my current adventures as trivial, or unworthy of a "modern" lifestyle, but I suggest they have trouble seeing the obvious or smelling the flowers.  In my lifetime I have been places, seen things, and done things that many would find fascinating, frightening, or shocking.  "Been there, done that" is something I realize often.  However, after a while one realizes the greatest adventure is inward.

I saw it too, but it is not a true translation but a gimmick app that gives cat sounds in responding to human sounds.  Depending on the feline it might be cool or a horrible practical joke.

Why are you installing separately why not just have different runtimes and point DS in their direction.Or just have 1 runtime and point DS 3 and 4 to that direction?

...my previous setup was Studio 4/Library (for all Daz 4.5+ products that are tagged with "Data" as the target folder), and Studio3/Runtime for all content which uses the old Poser structure.

Keep in mind when I first set my system up some  7 years ago, most of the installs of old content were done through the old Windows Bitrock installers I had archived as I didn't have net access from home to use the DIM at the time (roughly about 2/3rds of the content was installed with the old installer .exes).  Therefore all that content "automatically" installed into the old Poser runtime structure.  When I finally had Net access and began to install with the DIM, new (Studio 4.5+) products which used the "Data" instead of "Runtime/Geometries" target for install went into the new "Daz3D Library" setup rather than old Poser runtime.

If I accidentally installed Poser runtime content to the Studio4/Library folder it didn't work properly.  I would then have  to uninstall it and then re-install it to the Studio3 folder for it to work.  Likewise, accidentally installing newer content to the Poser runtime created the similar issues.

The bottom line with all this is, I expected the filter I used to be more exclusive than it apparently is. I thought it would only tag products that went into the Daz3D Library folder (using the "Data" instead of "Geometries" path for the.base mesh files), not the older runtime structure, and thus save me some time in rebuilding my setup without having to screen each individual file to see which format it followed and where it should go.

....yeah I'm paying something like 22$ a month with an AARP discount for a single line (single line users always seem to get a slightly higher rate, just like single travellers in hotels, or a single person who doesn't need to purchase large amounts of goods at the market [te latest trend is buy like 4 or 5 of a product to get a deep discount per item but one or two are always the full list price]).

I only have 2 GB of Data however that more than covers my transit fare, schedule, and "how do I get there?" apps. When I'm at a location with local WiFi, I use that instead.

...totally on board with that.  Even though I live in the city, I value my personal time.

I really haven't been out of town in a couple years now since my last trip to Milwaukee (not even to say, Seattle or the Oregon Coast). Saving up for the big Long Beach Kite Festival this coming August (Long Beach WA not CA) which for me will be a major adventure.  Travelling just doesn't seem to have the pull it used to have with me, mainly because it is too expensive to go by train anymore for a long trip and air travel today is akin to a mix of the Spanish Inquisition and dungeon torture all rolled into one unpleasant experience.  I remember when I had to dress for a trip by air and when flying was something really special.  Crikey, today it's worse than riding a city transit bus (I actually have more legroom riding transit than in "airline steerage").

Add to that the issue lately with all this automation being put into the things.  I have enough angst with the computers that sit on my desk let alone trust one to control an aeroplane flying at mach .85, 5 - 6 miles above the ground.  I'll take and old 707, DC-8, or 727 with flight controls in the hands of trained professional pilots than one that uses what is little more than a game controller and notebook computer.

    (Airbus 330 Flight Deck).

All those taxes and surcharges put this kind of bill up about $5 it seems.  Worse on the FIOS bill (or old Comcast Xfinity bill).

    Thanks.

del cookies trepidatiously, but bookmarks still there. smiley

saw i have an ap for human to cat speech. surprise

Earth cats or is it a Meowian translator? I wouldn’t trust a human made Meowian app... Too much room for unpleasant misunderstandings... like for instance, the difference between “meow” and “meow” can be either an acknowledgement... a sort of greeting or a really vulgar insult about one’s entire clan... humans are very bad at any of dialects of Meow...  besides, most Meowians speak most human languages.

i need a toaster so checking the amazon

is showing me toaster ovens with rotisserie kebob thing.

doesnt say how big a chix roaster.

what else can kebob besides meat cubes and marshmallows.

sorely tempted.  think it would make me popular among the relatives to be cooking rotisserie chix.

    whaddaya think?

Something looks off about the scale of said chicken... it could be normal size... maybe it’s the size of the knobs and the screw heads... looks like there might be a little photoshop exaggeration going on... maybe.

Also it looks really dangerous with those red and orange arrows in there... what if one breaks loose and goes flying out?

Seriously someone once said something like that to me... I thought they were joking until they said it a second time and I had to tell them it wasn’t a physical part, it was added to the picture and pointing to a detail.

    Humans...

One thing about electric rotisserie units is they are a huge pain in the butt to clean... you can make great meals in them, but no fun to clean.

You mentioned kebabs... man I miss good street cart kebabs... the Greek pork ones with lemon juice & rosemary sauce... now all the carts are trucks and most only sell shawarma or beef or chicken kebabs.

I ate my apple but am still hungry.  It was a strange Apple.  It had a pit instead of an Apple core.  It also did not taste like an apple.

A pit?... I do no thin dat was an apple... maybe it was a hybrid or mutant... make sure you don’t start developing extra limbs or superpowers... I suppose superpowers would be cool, but extra limbs... well depending on what you enjoy doing, that could be useful... it would just be hard to buy clothing... especially if it was an uneven number... you’d always have an extra glove or sock left over... but I suppose if it were an tentacle, you wouldn’t need those... ah, either way... good luck.

...there are times I wouldn't mind having an extra cyberarm so I could hold on to two bags of groceries while unlocking the door instead of putting one down on the pavement where it can get wet if it rains or someone's little yap dog might get into it.

Would be great in the kitchen too when cooking.  I could give it a an extra strength mod so I could actually open jars without struggling or feeling like I am about to rip the skin off the palm of my hand.

I have Consumer Cellular.  I pay about $54 a month, for two of us.  Unlimited calls, unlimited texts, and 5GB data (which we never come close to because we use the WiFi in our house).

    Dana

That is cheap compared to some international plans that I've seen.  Canada doesn't offer a lot of data or minutes unless I spend $40 CAD or more.

I'll track how much data my tablet uses when I visit Daz3d.com and Renderosity using my wifi connection at home.  The Android tablet is slow though.  I think it has a 1.51 GHz quad-core CPU.

Non-complaint:  Feeling cocky and with a little discretionary money on my card I peeked in late on an Internet auction for rocks & minerals.  I'd looked over the catalog a few days ago and had found several interesting looking minerals with low or no reserve prices on them.  HOWEVER, the shipping prices for even the smallest of them was at least 9 dollars.  Regardless, I made my list and checked it twice, looking for everything pretty and cheap and nice.  Most of the items came and went with nobody bidding on them.  Some nice raw low grade opals, rubys, and emeralds still embedded in their mother rocks.  Not gem quality but nice examples of the minerals.  I bid on a few items but wasn't very enthusiastic about it and was quickly outbid.  I don't as a rule collect minerals (It's an impossible and infinite collection.  Never any sense of completion).  Rather I try to stick to my rock and mineral carved animals but some of these mineral rocks were beautiful crystals.  Already in my collection I have some crystal quartz, some crystal sulfur, some crystal bismuth, some crystal amythyst, a nice clear, double refracting calcite crystal, a silicon crystal, and a chunk of pure chromium for their color and for their crystal shapes.  In today's auction I bid $1 for a 72 gram crystal of fluorite and wheee, I won it!   Very pretty color and nice crystalization.  I'll add it to my little farm of crystal creatures.   In total the $1 bid + $15 shipping cost probably means that I overpaid for the rock and could have probably gotten it at a rock shop or rock & mineral show for less but I'd have to find one and drive to it at a cost of at least $20 for gas & snacks.  So perhaps I should be happy I have a new crystal entity to add to my pet rocks for not much coin.  Notice the three fingertips under the rock to give you an idea of its size.
