Now that's interesting...I got one yesterday letting me know that they had recovered all my serial # and updated my account, but nothing like that. Did you ever have a maintenance plan?
If anybody wants to sell their Vue 2016 perpetual license, due to moving to subscription, please let me know.
I had a maintenance plan, for what that was worth, yes
If you had a maintenance plan when the site went down, they automatically signed you up for an "equivalent" subscription plan (generally more expensive) when they came back up. So, in theory, you should have a serial # or activation key to download and install the new VUE Creator or Pro. This has, understandably, caused a great deal of backlash. If you file a support ticket from the main site, they can answer questions, cancel the subscription, etc. They have been very helpful to me - I had a kind of unique situation. I had purchased VUE Infinite 2015 during a special sale that got me a free upgrade to Infinite 2016, but I had never received the upgrade before the site went down. Also, they had two accounts with similar names, so It took a few days, but they managed to sort things out for me.
The features list comparing Creator and Pro is a half-page, compared to the old site's comparison of features for versions of 2015 or 2016, which was 48 PAGES! But as far as I can tell, getting the equivalent to the old Infinite (or probably even Complete) would be Pro, which is $700 per year forever. A bit rich for a hobbyist. Creator is $200 per year, but lacks export and other features I would need. You do get integrated Plant Factory included with the subscription, but there is no option to get one or the other. However, they have stated on their FB page that the subscriptions are flexible, and that you can, for example, subscribe to Creator, then switch to Pro for a month or two to get those features, then back to Creator. This does not jive with the terms listed on the main site, but they have mentioned this flexibility a number of times. I dislike software subscriptions (which is why I have so many machines with Win 7 not connected to the 'net). A subscription that means I can't even access my own created stuff if their site goes down again, they go out of business, or I can't afford the subscription anymore, is a no-go for me. But, if I can export scenes and use them in Blender or my older VUE (with some loss of features), I might consider Creator.
On a bright note here is that Quadspinner has released all their excellent VUE add-ons (even proprietary stuff they never offered for sale), classes, and tutorials as open source (they are now focusing on their own new terrain software, GAEA). I had been drawn to VUE after seeing demos of these products (particularly Shimmerwind), but had not had a chance to buy most of them before Cornucopia3D went down. This is great and saves me a LOT of money. If you want the Quadspinner stuff, just go to their site or FB page. I think they are still adding things.
Also, there is a rumor, and it is just a rumor at this point, that they will be adding Daz Studio support similar to the current direct POSER support, for VUE so that you can use and pose figures directly in VUE without having to export to FBX or something. I have no confirmation for this, but will update if I can learn anything.
I did have a maintenance plan, with a different company, so if they do anything without my direct and explicit permission I will be most peeved. I have sent a few eamils, to no avail, so will try via their support pages.
i wish they would just say exactly what Creator is in conjunction with the old products. I had complete but then downgraded to studio because of upgrade cost... so now have 2016 Studio... If Creastor is COMPLETE, with Plant Factory added, it might not be that bad of a deal actually, other than if you quit paying you don;t have a terrain program any longer.
Of course having saif I have not had a response I got one alomst as soona s I checked my mail agan ..! The confirmed that I had been 'given' three months subscription access to Creator thanks to my previously paid maintenance, which is strange I thought it had been only a month.
Subscribers get 2 free months.
I had Vue2016 installed, but hadn't done anything with Vue at all in a few years. I don't do subscriptions, but all the fanfare about the site being back up has actually made me start to play with it again.
It's worrying how much I've forgotten, and it's still as frustrating as anything, but it's a nice change from creating models, which is where I've been spending most of my time lately.
I've been not using it either until recently. its like starting from scratch. I had a pretty good handle on atmospheres, morphing and doing terrains, ecosystems, and even mixing shaders and stuff.. Its like I never used it much. cant even remember how to position the camera.
I am thinking about Vue, but I do not know which version to choose. What is the difference?
$$$$
I think one is for creative types and one for production house use. there is no comparison listing now ... someone can be more explicit hopefully.
Does anyone know what Creative actually is?
Vue Esprit, Studio, or Complete?
with plant factory added.
From trying the demo, Creator seems to be Vue Infinite, but without the ability to export, limited to 5 rendercows and limited to 4k images, but including Plant Factory. I've tried the GPU-assisted Path Tracer Render, but I'm not overly impressed with the results - maybe there are materials included with the full version (as opposed to the demo) that will render properly with the Path Trace Render.
I've currently got Vue 7 Inf and vue 11 Complete installed on this machine, so I'll be sticking with those as I don't intend to pay a subscription for the new Vue.
I've been trying to find out the difference between Creator & Pro. In the past they had Vue Esprit, Studio, Complete, Infinity & xStream. As well as a free version.
I started out with Vue Esprit and later upgraded to Vue Studio. A few years later I upgraded once again to Vue Complete. There were many feature differences between Esprit, Studio and Complete.
If Creator is the replacement for Esprit and Pro is the replacement for Infinity, then there is no in between versions.
I'm sticking with Vue Complete 2016 R6 as it has more features over Vue Creator 1.0. I don't need the Plant Factory.
Still using the Vue Creator 1.0 demo. Purchased Cornucopia3D content would not load in Creator. So I sent Bentley an e-mail. I got a very prompt e-mail (surprsinly very prompt) with a code to enter into Creator. Content now loads fine.
An obviously totally superior business approach (makes Eon look ..... well, ... wanting) .... And, for a consulting fee, I'll share some other secrets that will make things hum even better =)
