I was hoping someone would have come forward with info before you gave up, but since not, I will chime in. Mind you, I am only using the first iteration software, Marvelous Designer 2, but I imagine it would still hold true all the way through to version 8.
You can set exact desired lengths when first creating 'Free Sewing' seam lines by right-clicking while dragging your second point (after setting first).
You can also set exact desired seam line lengths of both 'Free Sewing', and 'Segment Sewing' with the Edit Sewing Seams function. For this, select a point and drag towards desired direction - while dragging, right-click, and set length in pop up box. Basic math is all that is needed to get even numbers if that is what is wanted.
