Looks to me like "March slightly crazyness" all over again. The buy-in is to high for me and there hasn't really been anything too tempting among the new stuff.
If I had the money, I'd probably buy almost everything in today's sale. There's no problem with the releases, they are great, just no special Daz incentive to buy today. I know I will end up buying most of it eventually, just not today. Hopefully Daz will come up with better financial incentives...
On a humorous note, apparently English isn't the first language of whoever wrote this but the last typo seems more like a Freudian slip LOL.
Hah! I have enough problems dealing with my (DAZ)-addiction without my libraries getting their own!
I must say that so far I've not been mega-impressed with this sale. The Debut / Still New sale prices are as good as last year and a pretty good deal, but I miss last year's "Mega Fastgrab Stores" - I cleaned so much off my wishlist at 75% off with a debut or still new item last year. This year only very old items are getting that sort of discount (and many of them have been on sale at similar discounts already this year). Maybe things will hot up later.
I had to come here to check that this was actually one of the annual sales.
Everything is so G8 oriented too. Every time I work with G8, I realize there is so much that I can't do as easily with G8 that works fine with G3, G2 and G1, at this point - and it means a thousand dollars of Zev0's, Cayman's and other's products to fix that.
Agreed on the selection today Diva, quite a few things I would like to snag. The randomizer is top of the list as I also love the old version, but that price is killing me, especially since I still use the old one almost daily.
I am being super picky with my spending now as I am saving for a big real world expense, so this kind of spending takes a backseat unless the deal is super sweet.
I am picking up that Randomizer today, along with yesterday's Battle Ready Poses, at 50% off. It's not even September yet!
(I don't have the first Randomizer and have often vaguely wished I did, so this is absolutely perfect. And I do love that pose set, at least from the promos.)
And 50% off on New Releases may be 'ordinary' for backlist but it absolutely isn't for front list. Though when I first got started here, I was told the big draw of the PA sale was that at some point in the month, EVERY PA went on sale, so it's a chance to pick up discounted stuff from people who don't release very often.
Yes, I'm hanging on for a few notables. How long does this last? Is this JUST THIS WEEK or 2 weeks or ONE WEEK, but always an extra extenion?
Usually about a month. Plus we've had it extended for a while after that in the past. Then comes the PC+ festival which is another month.
PA Sale is usually entire month of September. The Still Debut stuff sticks around for 3 days usually before cycling out, and returns for Catchup Sale. (The price we pay for cheaper debut pricing is less time (usually) to take advantage of it.)
I just wish we could know which stores are being retired this year so we can buy any last chance purchases we have been putting off before it's too late.
Some kind of sale or at least a notice before items/shops are removed would be nice, indeed.
Yes it would
In my case it was more like March I-just-get-these-headaches-y'know, at least to begin with. IIRC I didn't really make my bank card whimper until the second or third week. And I ended up spending nowhere near as much as I have in earlier years.
But that's always going to be true as you acquire more and more stuff. It's hard to get excited about a new bathroom when you already have three and you've only ever rendered a bathroom sink once. That's why utilities are such good starters for sales like this.
I think sales depend a LOT on Daz incentives so PAs who end up in a sale as triggers for freebies get sales right away, while those who don't get wishlisted for later, as the (seasoned) buyer waits for the bigger better deal. It's not really fair to PAs who end up on a low incentive day...
Well, it helps that the stuff does stick around a few days. I was thinking of putting off the new Randomizer purchase until I could get a second item, before I remembered the Battle Worthy Poses from yesterday. The actual Special Features and other incentives tend not to play as much as that simple fact. 'Can I get it for 50% rather than 40%', partially because I already HAVE a lot of the stuff they offer as incentives-- or I just don't care enough about it to be excited. I'm not an ideal sales-shopper, though, by any means. These days something I just don't care about for as little as a dollar just makes me shrug and pass by.*
*Unless some kind of bundling madness is underway. 1 thing for $10 bundling up to 10 things for $1, you can bet I'll get my shop on. But that's more of a PC+ thing.
Yeah, the sale the product is released with makes a HUGE difference in sales for the PAs.
I tend to be a binge shopper. When there's a really great discount, I'll pile up my cart and have to grudgingly cull things out because I spend way more than I expected. Otherwise I only get things that I REALLY REALLY need or want at intro price and then usually if there's an extra incentive to get it like freebies I don't have or high discounts on other stuff I don't have. If something is really cheap I will probably get it, in case I need it later even if I don't immediately see a use for it. I am always really happy I did that because eventually I may be looking for something like whatever the product is and am surprised and happy when I realize I already own it!
Yeah, I get that. I just have this compulsive desire to download and install everything I get, and stuff I have no expectation of using ends up feeling like clutter and space-eating. But there's definitely been times when I've regretted my decision to pass on an amazing deal or freebie!
I think this impacts a RANGE of products. If you are newer to Daz then you are grabbing tons of figures, places and things. I think, after a while you switch to utilities and things to make the user experience better/easier/faster. There's lot of products that are the answer to "How do I fix XYZ?" Things that you wouldn't get until after you set up your base library.
Randomizer and morphs are some of those products...Some shaders.....you don't really think of those until you feel it's time to start customizing.
How long before you imagine needing all the small touches?
I think many want quick, easy and simple early on.
Eventually you want more control...
And for Big Sales, that plays out.
A) Wants the cool stuff to make cool renders.
B) Wants products to build a library.
C) Wants products to help them use their library better
D) Wants products that increase the value of their library.
C and D is where I'm at, but great discounts (obviously) can shift my attitude.
---------------------
Oh shoot, yeah, my point was- it's hard to get all those groups to be happy in any sale campaign.
Perhaps, "Don't worry, it is just another sale," might be a more appropriate title for the next version of this thread?
"Hey, if you already own Victoria, how about a perfume bottle set for free, instead?"
Really?? Well... Ok... I guess.
Keep in mind that Daz was giving away V8 for free in quite a few sales lately. Okay, I have no idea where I was heading with this... :D Probably that you were already supposed to have V8, so comparing the two is not fair.
The perfume bottle set is only free if you own Vicky 8 and buy a slightly pricey new character bundle to go with. So it's a not-exactly free freebie for some of us.
Indeed, I had little interest in the bundle, so the alternative gift to V8 for me at least was no big deal.
Today's mega-fastgrab looks like the same one we just had recently; so, I've already picked it over for anything I want.
It did look very familiar.
The main difference this time is you need to buy a new release to get the 70% off, which was not necessary a few days ago (Unless I have forgotten something).
Shaders and morphs I can understand... after a few different figures and some clothes, morphs and shaders were next on my shopping list (even though there's a lot of nice freebies around, too, which helped a lot).
But for me (!) that randomizer makes no sense at all. For the renders I plan to do I either get me a figure that fits my wishes or I use morphs to make on up myself. Some script that uses random variations of morphs won't help me a bit, as I see it more like a "casting" for the figure I see in a certain "role"
I guess for someone who does lots of renders and needs lots of different figures as background fillers it makes sense, but I ain't doing that...
That was my take. "You're not getting Vicky 8 for free if you already own her, but here, have some perfume bottles to go with a dearly priced OOT bundle, instead."
Another G8 character for free might have made the OOT bundle attractive. Perfume bottles, not so much. They're very nice bottles, and the OOT hair is very nice, as usual.
