Good info but doesn't mention that many fiber supplements now are inulin.  That's where I first came across it. It does explain why Rita is used ot seeing chickory on ingredient lists, though.

...well loaded the phone off with the card but can't seem to find the usual text acknowledging that the transaction went through correctly and what the current balance is.  Last text from the carrier was yesterday but it was only the general "welcome" one.  Also need to recharge as the battery is down.

there are doubtless many words in common parlance in the UK which are unknown in the US, there are also others which mean totally different things in the two different countires, some that are quite normal in one are though of as wrong in the other,   Like a certain well known food item in the UK

  • I was just told again I am not allowed to have any packages.  I am home again and now wished I lived somewhere else.

Earlier in US history, that word meant a bunlde of sticks.  Later, it was a cigarette, well...the short form "fag".  Now, it's mostly past being used as a hate word/slur.  Most don't use that word anymore, at least I don't hear if very often.  The first was actually spelled with only one "g", though it still seems to be pronounced the same.  Another point of confusion in the English language, no matter what side of The Pond you're on, I guess.

Quite likely. It took a while to realize that "lorry" meant "truck" when I was introduced to All Creatures Great and Small as a teen.

Wait...that's not a render!  Oh, maybe the label on the can is a render and you cut it (see the blade) and glued it onto the can.  I love it, so funny.  As usual!  My wife says you picked a good color!  (we both like purple...though lately I'm seeing art supplies showing that is not purple, more violet...but I digress).

    Well done!

...bad day for Oregon sports. All our teams, from men's and women's footie to college football lost. The worst was Oregon which was on the receiving end of three really bad calls by the officials.  I thought that kind of rubbish only occurred in the NBA.

At least Wisconsin defeated Iowa 28 - 17 after that terrible loss to BYU last week

    /sport.

That's why I no longer depend upon, nor even make use of, email notifications for this forum anymore.  Saves me a whole lot of email bandwidth, too.  I bookmark the threads I want to follow, and just refresh my bookmarks page every now and then to see if there are new posts!

  • Amalthea, yes and it usually obtained from Chickory which is related to Ragweed.  People with allergies to Ragweed sometimes react very very badly to Inulin.  But the flour that didn't have it in it that I made the banana bread from, it nearly did my husband in.  His body knows what to do with wheat.  It really has to learn what to do with this fake wheat.  In the mean time he had terrible symptoms.  I am sticking to flour without it mostly except for grilled cheese sandwichs.  Getting use to fake wheat cause stomach upset because it is new and you don't exactly know what to do to it to digest it.  I have lost five pounds of water so far.  I still have a good bit of swelling in my legs.  My kankles are going away, but I am afraid the waterloss stop and I'll still have pretty crappy athritus.  When I loose all the water I am going to loose and my weight is stable,  then I will decide if this other flour makes me hold water or swell or have other symptoms.  So far I think it was it being a new food, not an allergic reaction.  I mean this stuff tastes like wheat, but it is not wheat and I am not use to eating it.  My swelling has continued to go down and I have less pain and stiffness.  I think it will turn out to have health benefits rather than being a bad thing.  Everything in moderation.  I really did eat too much of this stuff the first couple of days.

WebMD didn't tell me the chemical used to bleach flour is used to induce diabetes in lab animals.  WebMD didn't tell me how much RoundUP is in the wheat in this country.  I am really sick of eating poisen.  I have read countless articals today making fun of people who are eating gluten free without a lab test to confirm Celiacs.  If I eat wheat, the swelling has gotten so bad I am afraid my throat will close up and I will not be able to breath and I will die.  It is hard to get use to this flour, it does upset my stomach, and yet my swelling is still going down.  My legs were so swollen I thought the skin would split open.  My mother often gets cheap coffee with chickory added to it.  Coffee usually makes me make water, I didn't have an extream reation to a taste of it, but I didn't drink more than a taste of that awful coffee.  The bag said chickory on Amazon, the bag I got said Inulin.  I am too sick from eating wheat that was poisening me to know if Inulin bothers me a little or a bunch.  Its not as bad as the wheat, that's all I know.

  • Being BiPolar you need a diagnosis to get your anti-psychotics.  Autistic, bipolar children need a diagnosis to get therapy and meds and special services in the school system.  But I am drawing the line at eating wheat which makes me blow up and hurt all over until I am tested and have my intestines biopsied so some journalist can say, "Well, okay, I see you can't eat wheat, now you have my stamp of approval to eat gluten-free food."  Why do people do this to one another over silly things?  Prove it, get a doctor's blessing, blah, blah, blah.  It really is an awful way to treat people.  My sister is heavier than me, she has lost about 40 pounds of weight since finding out she can't eat wheat and changing her diet.  She is eating low carb a lot and I could only loose weight on low carb diets for years myself.  I just wondered how much more water I could loose and how much is really arthritis and how much is swelling and inflammation from this allergy.  But when I got dressed the other day pants that were too tight are fitting loose so it was kinda nice.  I have not tried to eat low carb this time.  My parents say they loose weight just cutting the wheat out, rice and potatoes are fine for them.  My father did a potato diet and his swelling went way down.  I am more interested in not being crippled by arthritis like my mother than weightloss.  Its all the water I am holding and the swelling and inflammation I am worried about.  I didn't know it was a diet fad thing.  I did the GFCF diet for my kids when they were younger but my mother gave them sweets and Debbie cakes behind my back and the school fed them foods they didn't eat at home.  I was poor, I couldn't turn down the free school meals.  I thought I was just getting arthritis like my mom.  I thought gallbladder problems were causing the low iron.  I have had swelling for almost 4 years, it just kept getting worse.

  • On the other hand, I made my wheat free snacks and bread.  My husband says the rest of the banana bread is all mine.   Its a lot of baking if you want snacks.  Shopping was not too bad.  I thought my family would be eating with me, but no.  I bought them organic wheat flour.  It doesn't have chemicals and RoundUp in it.  I feel okay about feeding it to them since they can eat wheat.  I am less worried about trace amounts of wheat right now.  My kids are drinking soda stream soda to avoid the high fructose corn syrup.  It has been more work for me all around.  I never thought I would be making soda a few years ago.  But with all the baking done and the kitchen reorganized, I can maybe find time to play on Daz again.

  • @RitaCeleste, you mentioned: "WebMD didn't tell me the chemical used to bleach flour is used to induce diabetes in lab animals" is this true?  It wouldn't surprise me.  I was tested for celiac and wheat sensitivity - I was ok, but the doctor mentioned their are other "factors".  I have been trying to go gluten free anyways for a while because gluten causes inflamation.  I have arthritis, but wonder is there a connection between arthritis and the wheat, which I guess you cannot find a non-GMO wheat.  Is there a connection with weight gain and fluid retention to wheat and processed carbs, I wonder.  PS, @RitaCeleste.. my real name is RitaAnn last name starts wi S cheeky
