Hmm So two people mention not installing the Starter Essentials Updates and they've not had stability issues. Has everyone that reported having stability issues also downloaded the Starter Essentials update? Personally, I did download the update and I'm one of the people experiencing the stability issues.
I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been made obvious already.
Has this been reported?
I'll see if I can find the article again. It tells you have to set windows to have to ask before downloading, as well as before installing updates. It won't stop the notifications, though. I get those at least once a day. No way to dismiss the window, so I click the button to view the updates, and then shut the window. The second page is now telling me in bright red how my computer is at risk.…
I’ve had crashes for a while. It isn’t jut the starter essentials that cause it. It really started off when we got dforce and dforce ready clothing.
Not for me. Daz Studio has always been pretty stable for me. It's been WAY unstable though over the past week and a half to two weeks so there has to be a cause.
I'm still on Windows 7, DS version 4.10.0.107, I have not installed the updated for the various starter essentials, and have had no significant crashes recently. Occasionally Fitting certain hairs to G8M does cause a crash, but I know which ones do that so I just don't use them on him. I don't use dforce that much, but it has thus far not caused any crashed either.
I'm using Windows 10 and the latest version of the studio, had crashes a few days ago with the new oriental garden, nothing else is crashing. I posted about it on my Art Studio thread, and the log error. Reinstalled the product to see if that was it, studio still crashed. Here's the log post, if it makes sense to anyone. This is when I reinstalled the product and tried again. Log post. I don't know how to read the darned thing, Greek to me. I haven't been experiencing crashes prior to this. I did install the Essentials, but as several people who didn't are having problems, it must be something else?
I have aa theory on this, as for myself I would have occasions where I would get crashes such as the program crashing or 3DL crashing and it would always drive me nuts.. And well my theory is that when ever this started to happen it was not long before a new version of Daz Studio would get released..
Generally, I get BSODs; I hate W10.
On a plus note; SSD I'm installing W7 on arrived yesterday. :)
I also haven't installed the updates to the Essentials; was asking what for and not seen a response, so as everything was working as expected - I declined to fix it. :)
Actually no.
I have Dforce items that hardly ever work; I didn't get around to trying the two concerned until friday, and it is way too late to return them. I use their default settings, simple poses after the first couple of fails. But never anything but crashes. (If I don't figure out the issue, I'll be contact support.)
Haven't been using DS as of late so I can't comment on increased crashing, but I have bought a few things and installed them using DIM (and included the essentials updates). Hope this wasn't a mistake!

I'm using a Win10 desktop with an AMD Ryzen CPU and 1080ti graphics card and haven't had any crashes...yet. My system, software, hardware, and DAZ products have the latest updates.
Click the More... button and it will tell you which module is actually crashing, that may be informative.
Well, I suppose if Daz noticed a change in the OS that caused issues they might try to release an update to fix it in a timely manner, but I think this is more likely just a mis-perception on the timing.
I use Windows 10 (disabled updates) on 2015 HP Envy laptop (940m, 16 gig RAM), running DS 4.9.4xxx, downloaded/installed all Starter Essentials updates, continually rendering, averaging less than a crash a week (which is an increase from the usual stability). I was going to upgrade this machine to 4.10x to use dForce. I think I'll wait. Thanks for complaining everyone.

Well I"m sorry for those of us who are having issues but I'm glad i'm not going crazy! I wish I could say it was because of resource heavy scenes but its not. I loaded 1 g8 figure and clothing (which I have used before, regularly, with no issues) and it crashed twice. My hardware on my laptop can handle almost anything. I also noticed that on the laptop, the second it hits 100% and switched over to GPU it crashes (There is a handy little monitor thing on this machine which lets me watch the memory consumption etc in real time. Kind of addictive really lol.) Memory never goes to 100%. I believe someone mentioned scenes that have been closed and clearing the cache when this happens. I will try this, but I started with the cleared cache because it had been mentioned in Novica's thread.
I don't think studio handles allocating memory too well and the newer content is increasingly oversized texture-wise. (I mean look at the maps on the eyelashes).
Even though I may have enough memory to render as I both have CPU And RAM enough to handle it, I think the studio has trouble utilizing it, and crashes when it fails to do whatever it needs to do behind the scenes.
Thats just my theory though.
Dang it. I should have read this thread earlier.
I just started having random crashes, with big scenes and small. I haven't updated card drivers, but I did have an automatic Win10 update install. But I think it was the Starter Essentials update, that I just installed a few days ago. Since then its a few crashes per session :(
Actually, starter essentials doesn't even show for me in DIM except for Starter Essentials for the G8 figures. Genesis, Genesis 2 and Genesis 3 are all absent.
I used a G3F character yesterday, and the essentials installed thru Connect (I redid my libraries again). Afterward, I used dforce and it worked just fine on two outfits, but the scene wasn't anything intensive - just a Fabiana background, an HDRI and a couple lights.

I think Diva may be on to something. Mine crashed for the first time yesterday, twice. For some reason the Genesis 3 Essentials update didn't install through DIM although it looked like it diid and was completely missing from DS. So I used Connect to install it. Then I wasn't even using G3, but I was searching through files rather than products in the smart content pane and that's how mine crashed twice. I thought maybe I had too many products and it overwhelmed the computer searching through all those individual files or Diva could be right, might have something to do with the new updates...
This is why I try to save very often, but of course sometimes I get 'in the zone' and forget to save.
I don't know if Daz is crashing more frequently, but I've had a few recently. Sometimes it just dropped to desktop and completely disappeared, no error message or anything... but yeah I am still seeing a significant number of crashes, depending on the project. Sometimes no issues at all, other times...
It'd be nice if Daz had an autosave, or at least a prompt that asked you every so often to save (say every 15-20 minutes) to remind you should you find yourself 'in the zone'... It's a bit of an annoyance to have to 'pick up where you left off' with your last save when things crash...
...interesting, I haven't gone over to G8 yet. Did get the base morphs and one character when it was first released and messed around a little, but didn't see much more potential to warrant another large investment than I already have with G3 (and with the G8 to G3 fit clone I can use G8 clothing and hair that I like with G3). So that is why I never installed the recent essentials update.
Both 3DL and Iray are stable (and with the latter I am rendering on the CPU and system memory).
Not using DForce due to an old low VRAM GPU and low CPU based system resources.
if it is the starter essentials update that's triggering the new crashiness, that's tough. can't uninstall that without losing a lot of fuctionality. :/

I wonder if some of the problems, particularly the jumping camera and scene panel selections are caused by a mouse detection issue. Someone mentioned a possible fix in another thread (which involved downloading some sort of third-party program), and it doesn't really make sense that a problem with the starter essentials would affect interface issues.
edit: I realize my complaints and comments here aren't exactly about the crashing issues, but these other ones are just as crippling and need to be addressed as soon as possible.
I agree. I have the mouse jumping issue as well, and that is also fairly new for me. And I should not need a third party app for that. Happens with every mouse I have tried too.
I'll try not to be technical. Let's see… As hardware, your mouse has to get the CPU's attention, (like raising your hand in class and waiting for the teacher to let you speak,) The harder your CPU is working, the less attention it gives your mouse with default settings. Perhaps the 3rd party app gives your mouse the priority of a "teacher's pet," making the CPU notice him (her?) more frequently.
If the skipping mouse is OS hardware related, you can't really blame DS.
I know I'd really like options inside DS to choose the number of cores the program uses:
I don't know if it's possible. But it would be nice to work on an image in Photoshop while DS is rendering another image, without having to use Task Manager to change Affinity.
Who knows, if we could dedicated one core to the mouse, maybe it would stop the odd selection behavior, or changing the parent when all you wanted to do was select something else, or hide an object.
As for the crashing, I'm pretty sure the dropping to desktop @tj_1ca9500b describes happening is a memory issue, with no memory "available" for the crash report. But that's a slightly-educated guess. (It's a mystery, as the amount of RAM on the system doesn't seem to affect that type of crash in my experience. I've had it happen on this machine with 16GB; and on the beast with 32GB, and later 64GB.)
Edited: I know wrote OS, but what I was referring to was BIOS related, and how the CPU handles hardware interrupts. Which is getting technical. Sorry.
It's not the OS, I've heard from people using Windows 7 and 10, some with auto-updates on and some with it off. The thing everyone has in common is we're all using the same version of DAZ Studio, and at least in my case, it's never happened with previous versions.
I wrote a ticket & spent about two weeks in a back & forth with DAZ support about the bug you are talking about but ultimately they claimed there was no bug.
I didn't have the mouse jumping issue until I switched to a three button mouse. That was a few months back. Its annoying but I just use a camera instead of Perspective view and hit Undo if I get a jump.
...odd, just a few minutes ago I had issues with the mouse but on YouTube where the cursor would disappear, jump around, and when you clicked on something, not do anything.
As I assume DAZ is monitoring this thread. I had a repeatable error while doing a simple render in Iray. Simple as in a single feather (a 2d plane with a texture and a transmap). Both the texture file and the transmap were .png files as I was modifying some feather object files. I haven't had a problem in the past with the occasional .png texture but on two recent attempts, the render was VERY slow and part way through, not only did DAZ crash, but monitor went to black and nothing save for a hard power-off shutdown would resolve the black monitor and unresponsive computer.
