I'm in the same boat. I've returned products that my computer can't handle because I wasn't aware they would at the time of the purchase. I've now identified those PA's whose products, while wonderful items, seem to be creating for higher end comps and don't purchase them anymore, regardless of how much I love the item.  My comp's not bad - i7, GTX 960 4gb, 16gb ram - but it's fast becoming apparent to me that it needs to go up in ram and card. However, this is a hobby for me, I don't make money doing this, so I'm not even sure if I should upgrade. Other than certain products that slow my comp to a crawl, it's more than adequate for everything else - games, other software, etc. And given that our only income is a pension, the finances simply really aren't there for me to upgrade. Heck, I don't even buy here much anymore due to that - I'm slowly being priced out. But for some reason, my brother has got it in his head that I'm some sort of superstar artist that he wants to support, and he bought me a 32" monitor, a big new computer desk and chair, some top of the line mouse, and is planning on buying me a new card and more ram once prices settle down. Don't get me wrong, I am in seventh heaven with all this - the monitor had me jumping around the house in ecstatic joy for days! LOL. But I'm just unsure whether it's worth upgrading my ram and card, just to use certain products that I kinda can't afford anyway LOL. I can play my Planet Coaster and Sims and Anno 2205 games perfectly fine with no problems; Photoshop and my other graphic programs work perfectly fine. So do I really need to upgrade just to be able to load that massive city scene product that I won't make any money creating art from, or that fabulous country scene with a gazillion trees and lanes and waterfalls and ponds?

Obviously if it's my brother buying them for me, then I won't complain LOL. But still......I can't really afford to buy here (or other stores) much anymore really...so is there a point to doing that?

This I can totally relate to! My system is just under yours in hardware and I get tired of having to return or not use addons that don't take into account users systems or the additional resources that we add to them to make a complete scene.  DAZ should require all PAs to develop on mid range systems.

Heck, or just to add a clear disclaimer that system requirements are steep in order to use the plugin or content or utility. I think I've seen SOME PAs do this... but I started out on an i5 with a 2GB GTX 750ti... and a lot of the things I bought just wouldn't work on it. As it is... I'm already eyeing that 12GB 1080ti. :)

I'm at a bit of loss as to what exactly these new "[insert 7 name here] to [insert 8 name here]" products are. For instance this one:

    https://www.daz3d.com/teen-josie-7-for-teen-josie-8

What happens if you don't have TJ8? I loved the look of TJ7 and I love her skin, and her skin doesn't work on G8 very well as she has her own custom UV, not the base G7female UV which works natively on G8. So if you don't have TJ8, can you apply this to Genesis 8 base, and still get the looks of Teen Josie 7?

You need TJ8 for https://www.daz3d.com/teen-josie-7-for-teen-josie-8 to work.

This gives you a set of shape morphs based on TJ8 to get the TJ7 figure shape, (like Darwin's Liam needs Ed8, for example.) When you load the figure, the shape morph for TJ7-8 would be at 100%, and the shape morph for TJ8 would also be dialed in, presumably to 100%.

You also get the TJ7 materials converted for use on G8F. However, if you've purchased Redz' Genesis 3 Character UVs for G8F, you won't need the converted materials. Redz' product allows you to use any of the Genesis 3 "7" female figures on G8F.

If you want the improvements of the G8 line, but the look of a specific 7 figure, these products will do that for you, provided you also have the corresponding 8 figure.

EDIT Woops, L'Adair just explained it as I was writing this post :) If I was to use a previous generation shape, I mostly use the morph loader pro. I presume the outcome is the same? I am a bit confused about the new G7 to G8 products: https://www.daz3d.com/michael-7-for-michael-8 I thought there were already products covering that bridge: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male Is there a difference between the two?

so the morphs that are used to make her look like Teen Josie 7, are the same morphs that are in TJ8? That's where I got a bit confused - I was trying to figure out how TJ8's morphs, could be made to look like TJ7, cos it could be done by the user themselves if that was the case. I know you need base figures for a lot of characters, as they use the existing morphs...but it just was doing my head in, thinking that Teen Josie 8 has the correct set of morphs that could make her look like TJ7, who I think looks very different. I wasn't sure if it was a case of TJ7 being manually converted to G8 - such as that manual method that exists - and for some reason, TJ8 was made a requirement even tho none of her specific morphs would be used.

Oh, and how embarrassing! I DO own that Redzstudios product. I think I forgot about it cos it works automatically and you're not actually doing any tweaking etc to get it to work. LOL. So yeah, product not needed at all now LOL.

and i don't see many improvements in the G8 line...

L'Adair explained it above - redzstudios product lets you use the 7 line UV skins on G8Males.....the new product has Micheal 7 morphs onto M8 as well.

Jakiblue, we crossposted :) And sorry about my text being squished together, I'm on mobile and it gives me no text editor options. I also own https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-character-uvs-for-genesis-8-male So I guess I can pass on the new M7 to M8. I use morphloader a lot to convert shapes. It's the skins that I cannot do myself but I'm covered from M4 all the way up to m7: https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-michael-4 https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-8-genesis-2-male-michael-5-and-michael-6
  • I suppose these "7 for 8" products are good for people that don't already own the G3 versions...or do you need them for the skins?  If so, I don't really see the point.  I mean, there is so little difference between G3 and G8 in terms of the final render, why not just use the Gen 7 version?

That's my niggle.  I'm sure they are good products if you just really want all your Gen 7 base characters to exist in G8 format without the hassle of doing the conversions on your own.

As to the rest of the promo, it looks like we're still being limited to a small selection of new items in order to get the mad deal.  I'm really curious as to if this strategy has worked out for this March.  I mean, if I'm any sort of indicator, my own spending is way down.  There have been some good deals.  It's just not worth it to me to get the good deal if I have to push my cart up to double or triple to make the discount trigger.  If the trigger items were things that I wanted anyway, I probably would have spent at least twice as much as I have so far this MM.

Hmm, I'll get a couple of these G3 > G8 figures, but still have fingers crossed for a single product that will transpose the morphs (I have Redzstudios brilliant UV products)

Is this the reason why Singular Blues removed his script? DAZ and a PA was planning to sell G7 for G8 figures.

And speaking of today's sale, the banner shows what looks like to be an HD morph for Teen Josie. DAZ has never sold them, right?

The product page for the Josie7-8 version indicates you get both the morphs and the materials for TJ8 to emulate TJ7.

I'd say these "this for that" products fill a niche. If you have both the generation 7 and generation 8 versions of a figure, you probably don't need something like this. If you're relatively new to Daz 3D, this product can expand your characters without the outlay for an older generation figure. If you're new to the hobby and the bulk of the products in your runtime are genesis 8, converting between the two generations can be intimidating.

This is my fourth March Madness and I'm mostly bored. That's due in part to the current discounts paling in comparison to some of the wild offers Daz has made in the past year, including the first two months of the year, leading up to this event. But it's also due in large part to my needs. I have so much stuff now it takes a lot to get me to part with my money at intro pricing. Either added discounts, extra $$ off DOs, or a product that blows me away to the point I'm not willing to wait for several months until it's on sale with a better discount.

I was looking over the thread yesterday. If I understand correctly, SB removed the script due to others claiming rights to bits of the code. As far as I could tell from that thread, it had nothing to do with products to be offered at Daz. I also read that he is cleaning up the code and plans on making the revised script available again.

I agree. Last year's MM was dull for me, this one even more so. 50% off if you buy 2, just isn't enough to scream March Madness. It's just another ordinary sale for the month of March.

It's mainly the skins for me. G8 takes the G3F base UV skins fine - but not so much the others, as in, Monique 7 skin, Olympia 7 skin, especially Teen Josie 7 as they are custom UV's. I forgot I had Redzstudio's product that means we can now use those UV base skin on G8. I've only found 2 G8 skins that I really like, and neither of those are the base iconics (although Monique 8's is ok). That's why I, for one, was curious about these 7 for 8 products. Given that I really like Teen Josie 7's morphs but don't like Teen Josie 8 at all, I was hoping to be able to recreate her on the G8's when I have to use them (promo stuff etc). Otherwise I am quite happy continuing with G3F, but there are times when I do have to use G8.I've used SingularBlues script to get Eva 7 morphs onto G8 and it worked perfectly...but now I've forgotten how to do it. LOL. I guess I was looking for a quick one-click solution to do it.

I would be happy if Daz itself had full instructions on how to use every aspect of the program. It's crazy that we have to hunt through forum pages, some people's DeviantArt pages, YouTube, etc... just to figure out how to use DS.

Then it would likely not be free; or the documentation would not be. I also suspect it would be very expensive, as it would need a team to create and keep it updated.

Yeh I have a threadripper; a 980ti and and a 970. I've been holding off buying a new card until the next gen; personally I'd rather spend the cash on something other than from Nvidia - my own personal opinion is they are greedy.

    *meh*

I'm still waiting for the real March Madness sale...

55% off vendor stuff (IF you have the qualifying bundle) for vendors is a lower discount than we've seen in 'regular sales' in recent months... and of course those elusive flash sales...

At least that very brief MM V4 sale held my interest, but nothing similarly spectacular happened for the other 'less than new stuff during March.  Of course, if you didn't need any of that stuff, well a few people have mentioned that in this thread.

That's OK, I can spend my Daz mad money elsewhere in the meantime.

As the thread title says, there's always another sale... April and May of last year were somewhat exciting if you still needed older stuff, so I'm hoping for a 'return to form' in April and May discounts wise.

Of course, if this is the new normal in Daz Discounts... Well *meh*

I got a bunch of stuff last year, but that was in part because I had a generous gift card from a friend & fellow artist that I used for a bunch of MM2017 purchases. This year, I've spent less than $5 (not counting my PC+ 1 month renewal), when I used my $6 PC+ coupon. I skipped the other coupon as half the time, it wasn't in my budget and the other half, things I wanted weren't on sale. There were hardly any Mad items I was interested in either. In contrast, I spent $200 in the September - December 2017 sales, which is a lot for me, since I am a hobbyist.

Going to give my membership another month, and then decide if I want to take a break from buying models for a while and just work with my current content.

While I don't find MM to be all the mad,  I have gotten some good items at some good prices. Just picked up the detention center, Monique 8 HD and Michael 8 HD with a PC coupon for over 80% off, so I am happy for todayt.

I was expecting more new items that heavy discounts so I am not dissapointed

There were a few days where the offer was close to being mad. The Ollie 8 release was one. By getting the whole offer, I got 75% off of everything Ollie that day. (And that's without having the extra 10% as I didn't buy Aiko 8.)  Anyone who did the same for Aiko 8 will probably say the same. The extra $20 for DOs was nice. I used that one twice. Same with the extra $30 for DOs this past weekend, though it was harder to find three Newly Mad twice. One of the Easter free products was also new, The Night Before Easter, and I totally love the April Fools Hole Hair. But overall, the sale was lackluster for me. Again, I think that's due in part to having so much in my runtime already.

And new releases at 50% off? (Or more…) That's not really bad. We've just gotten used to higher discounts on the old stuff and now 50%-55% (65%-69% DOs for members,) just feels less than Mad. The reality is, it's a really good deal for new releases. It there's something there you want.

I just bought Zbrush; if there hadn't been good documentation, I wouldn't have bothered; I expect it as part of paid-for software; hell I expect some anyway, and there is some Studio documentation, just not always easy to find.

These's either a glithch in the store or a problem with the MM page text;  a new release does not trigger the 50% off discount for related items (emphasis mine)...

    "Related Items 40% OFF¥

Get 50% OFF* when you buy 2 or more

or when purchased together with any new release or any item from the featured artist catalogs above"

Worked for me testign with Neko Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s) and Darius 8 HD Add-On. What items are you using?

Something like "Byzantine Warrior Poses" isn't triggering it for me, and the page says new release, not newly mad or still mad. Was using the Savage hair and beard to test.
