For a $19.95 item, this sale is about equivalent to a 60% off DAZ Originals sale. More expensive full priced items are better value, cheaper full priced items less so.

Yeah the percentage discount is probably the best guide to value. Pity you can't sort by percentage off. No genesis 3 items in the $8 category. That's disappointing. Texture add-ons at $4 aren't much good if the base item isn't discounted too.

Trying to make up my mind on the DA real world lighting.  Does anyone have it?  Its in the flash sale

I got it 2 weeks ago and it's well worth it!

What exactly is it? If I read it correctly, it's just a set of presets. There's another product similar to it that was on my whishlist. But then I went into the iray sun settings, and found that I can simply enter a set of coordinates, plus date and time, and the light will bet set up for that place and time. Is this product simply translating cities into their corresponding coordinates?

You start by setting the light intensity (Exposure): base, brighten, high, low (if I want a blue sky I choose low otherwise it'll get blown out), then I add a tint control, which is like using a filter to warm up the skin tones.  While the longitude and latitude can be chosen, I find chosing a city takes the guesswork out of the kind of light.  This far I've used Honolulu for bright, tropical lighting and New York for sunlight that throws more directional shadows.  So far I've used July for summer lighting; Autumn/Winter will be more moody and cast longer shadows.  Time of day affects sun position/shadows and that's trial and error.

Now I'm no expert in Iray and I was pretty pleased with how it came out.  That said, I was trained as a cameraman and have worked as one since '97 so I can get by with real world lighting blush  Here are examples of July light in Honolulu lat 3.00 pm and New York light at 10.30 am.  Both use Tint 02 slight red to warm up the skin tone wink

Thanks! :) Luckily, I have all weekend to figure out if I want this. :))) I've just recently started playing around with iray, although I think the majority of my images will still be 3Delight in the coming months.

Same here, I like PBR because it makes physical sense to me as a photographer...

  • So how does the grab bag thingy work?

I think it just means there's no particular theme to the product.  They just grabbed a bunch of things and put them in $4 bags.

Ah I was confused because everything is showing up as $2.80 for me....lol.  Must be the pc + discount.

I thought the original The Girl was retired.  I could have sworn I had searched for her before and she never showed up in the store search. And, yet, she's in the $8 grab bag.

Same! I remember searching for her when I first started about 3 months ago and couldn't find her, only found outfits for her.

I remember seeing her last month or so? Unless my memory is deceiving me again...

I'm not sure what is going on but it looks like some sort of glitch. See also this thread: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/99531/corrupted-page#latest

It's clear from all your comments that Skunk needs another owner. Thread made a sale! Plus I really want to help support more LAMH progress.

I've ummed and ahhed over buying http://www.daz3d.com/insalubrious-sanitary many times now but it bugs me so much that it has all the bathroom fixtures and a urinal but no toilet.

I didn't buy it for exactly that reason.

Certain merchants at attractive 50%+ (the usual additional discount+ for Platinum for 2+ items I believe) including Dimension Theory. I just bought Mec4D shader and Simtereno Particle Physics!

He said "merchants". Aren't those just a few items rather than entire merchant stocks being on sale?

There are 59 relatively new items on sale. Plus 50 V4 items for 2,50 each. That's not so bad.

I didn't have a link, went straight to product page from my wish list.

Turned out not the whole catalog per merchant on sale, just selected items.

@jakiblue, oh I see it's part of mid summers madness sales. I just returned to Daz3D shopping so still a bit confused by the sales. Looks like every other day there is a new sales with every specific sales terms.

"Still a bit confused by the sales"? I can tell you that it will not get better. Everybody (I think including the Daz people) is confused by the sales. *grin*
