...ahh I wish I had a working set of headphones. Haven't been listening to much music lately (or for that fact even watching any videos at all) as the ones I have are old and flaking out really bad.  A reasonably decent pair of over the ear ones is going to run me 75$ - 100$ and it's getting harder to find a set that is not wireless (don't have that capbility in my system as it's primarily built for my CG work).

I bought a new Buick Regal in '79.  Worst car I ever had.  Nice elegant look and comfort but completely rusted out in 2 years.  But the late '70s were really bad years for American cars in general.  Best new car of my own was a '92 plum colored 4-door Saturn SL2.  Loved that little thing.  Kept it for 14 years.  I've also toyed with Nisson trucks, sports cars & luxury sedans none of them lasted me more than 4 years.  I actually preferred stick shift instead of automatic and ordered the Nissons that way.  But one gets lazy when driving a big comfy American roadboat.

...do they use road sale in the winter where you live?  I remember 70s cars in Wisconsin turning into rust buckets in a couple years because of the salt and poor undercoating.

Well, they do use road salt here in western NY but back in the '70s I lived on the east coast of Florida, right next to the beach.

...that would explain it.  Up in Washington State, older cars along the cost tend to rust out faster.because of the salt air and the fact you can drive along the hardpack sand on the beach there.

That was cited as contributor to why that 737 in Maui back in '87 lost most of it's forward fuselage. It was a combination of corrosion from constant exposure to the salt air and frequent pressurisation cycles.

My '69 Chrysler Newport was solid.  I bought it used in 1974.  Didn't have money to keep up with all the maintenace, just did the oil changes...sometimes.  I didn't know that much about car upkeep back then.  But didn't have much money, anyway.  But it never rusted away on me.  The thing was 3 tons!  Solid.  Was like riding in a cloud, quiet and smooth.

...had a 1970 AMC Ambassador that was like that. Cruise control, AC, living room sofa seats. made the trip between college and home a real pleasure even though it wasn't as fast and fun to drive as the 442.

'87 Cadillac Fleetwwod commercial chassis, has 112,000 miles on it. Runs great.
Bought it in 2010 with 60,000 miles and all the maintenance records. Like
driving a battleship. 17mpg, can sleep in back. Love this car!

Okay my roommate is a sweet bully.  She tries to be sweet but underneath she is a bully.  One of my housemates is a spiteful which makes her appear to be an itchy woman.  Oops I forgot a letter.  Now I see why they are best friends. They are so alike except one has a pretty face.  Maybe the other would have a pretty face if she took better care of her health instead of becoming spiteful and whining all the time.  I am no longer angry at those two troublemakers but see their pitiful attempts as what they are.  Part of me wants to move out but I do not know where to go.  My roommate is moving out and tried to put guilt trips on me at the time.  She seems to think I am not the type anyone can help.  She thought I said that I am unable to clean.   Maybe I meant I am unable to clean with her around.  I am starting to see why they took her daughter from her. It is all her BS that she does not seem to take responsibility for.

The thing she got right is that I need to stand up for myself but I do not feel like I have to be stressed out at home.

I am OCD and I know it.  I want so much for myself.  Even without a bully of a roommate I get tired when I clean.  I am trying to build up stamina but it takes time.  I want my runtime and content folder organized but I have a lot of stuff.  I only have so much stamina and focus.

That is a huge issue up here in canada too. I get my under sprayed every 2 or three years. Salt and sanded roads is better than playing adult bumper cars lol.

...spent the last two evenings/early mornings trying to solve a nagging artefact matter that occurs during rendering with the new IBL Master tool in 3DL. When I render close up to the character the artefacts appear on, everything looks fine but when I pull back to render the entire scene they show up.  Was advised to switch to Progressive Mode which does remedy that issue, however in turn it produced anti aliasing issues on highlights as well as took much longer than the default bucket render mode in spite of many claiming it is actually faster.  Apparently there were changes made to the Progressive process where it only makes four passes and that's it and to use any method of filtering (like anti aliasing correction), one has to know scripting.

Needless to say rather tired form being up so late (early) the last two nights and somewhat frustrated.

Good news, bad news, okay news

good news my roommate started talking about leaving

bad news she meant the room not the house

okay news she is trading rooms with a girl named Cassandra who talks to herself.  To come to think of it is it better to have a roommate who talks to herself instead of talking bad at me? Towards me?  Belittling me at every chance?  At least if I get a talker it will not be the worst thing I could have.

Non-complaint:  Temperatures in the 40s last night, 50s today, still in the 40s (all Fahrenheit of course) tonight.  Rain, rain, rain.  Snow is flushing away.  Driveway is almost down to rock base again.  Walked to the mechanic to pick up my car after forking over $400 of "future money" frown.  While I was out I got to the post office and did some more grocery shopping (still have 10 weeks of winter left to be stocked for).  Unloaded all those groceries and flopped into my chair exhausted again.  But, yea, no more exhaust fumes in the car. yes  However, the jury's still out on the state of my windshield wiper motor.  They said they cleaned and reseated all the connections but I think it's the electronics in the motor ageing badly.  If so, it will follow the pattern of the last two motors and keep getting worse until it runs all the time.  I may end up putting a switch into the power line to the motor to avoid having to replace the motor with yet another used motor.

Ok, long boring saga time! RUN!

Started feeling bad Saturday morning.  By the end of the dy was vomiting, then added the runs overnight.  Spent all day Sunday either on the toilet or throwing up.  Sumday nigh, dizzy and sick, called 911 and taken to the ER.  Into the ER, which was packed - apparently we have a very serious flu epidemic here! Diagnosed initially with flu and dehydration, scheduled for admission but had 120 other people waiting - the hospital was literally full!  Holy carp!!  Took 8 hours to get a room, ffs.

I didn't go into general care, they took me straight into what's call IMC - Immediate Medical Care - which is just short of the ICU.  Blood test showed that my sodium was so low I was just short of critical life-threatening levels.  My muscles had sttarted to stop working and my brain was messing up.  Yesm low sodium will kill you dead - basically your nerves stop working.

On to a 24-hour saline drip.  Within a day my sodium level slowly crept up, and I mean ssslllooowwwlllyyyy.    Doctor came in every single day and I was on 24 hour monitoring.

By Wednesday night my numbers were good, I could use my hands and legs again, and the ol' brain was back to normal.  Discharged Thursday at Noon.

They had also discovered that it wasn't the flu, it was a severe viral gastroenteritis!  It hasd made me lose so much fluid that my body was in the process of shutting down.  Scary, very scary!

Anyway, thankfully no permanent damage.  About a 1-2 week recovery period, though.  No long-term issues.  I owe my guardian angel a lobster and steak dinner.

That is the cloest I've been to Death in my life, and it sucked HARD.

I have a lot to think about now...

Everyone, take damn good care of yourselves.  You do NOT want to end up like me.

    Back to resting, more later.

...yikes.  Was wondering why I haven't seen any posts for a while was about to send a PM in the next day or so.

Yeah that is scary, particularly as I am not a big lover of salt, even "low salt" snacks often are still too salty for my taste. When I'm out getting a burger at one of the local pubs, I often have to request no salt on the fries as they always overdo it.  Never acquired the "American" taste for salt and I use it very sparingly in my cooking as well as buy low sodium ingredients.  Oddly, Pringles tend to have less salt than most other brands of crisps and snacks (they even have their one "low salt" version).  Then there's Kettle which has a no salt potato crisp (one of my faves).
