I don't understand why there needs to be an overpriced tutorial on how to grift someone's likeness in ZBrush, when you could find better ones on YouTube for free, but eh.
At least the deals today are pretty good. :V
If tutorial-sellers let themselves be stopped by, "Oh but they could just go to YouTube," they would be a great deal poorer and all the people who feel like spending money is a guarantee of quality over free resources would also be sad. :-)
Ehhhh I've learned a lot more about Daz from The WP Guru/Jay Versluis' and SickleYield's free videos (to name some examples) on YouTube than I would have from an overpriced one... and I've heard some pretty damning complaints about the Digital Art Live ones that are sold here.
But hey, if people have the disposable income to throw at a tutorial that has a 50/50 chance of being high quality or utterly poor (and thus having to go through the process of trying to get said money back) that's their prerogative. :T
Now, if Daz had say maybe a minute of a sample clip on each of these video tutorials, to give an indication of the quality, then I might be inclined to change my tune.
And I'm one of those who complained. I don't like the "live" conference format as it's so easy to go off script and down a time-eating "rabbit hole." However, some people learn best from videos, and the off-topic comments work to give them a breather between the details they are watching to learn. Some people don't like video tutorials at all, regardless if paid or free. They want a PDF they can search, and/or print out. As long as the vendor's products sell, and people are getting something out of the tutorials, they will continue to be produced. (And, sadly, I'll continue to pass them over.)
I much prefer PDFs that are easy to read and refer to over boring videos that eat up my hard drive space. V3Digitimes did a great tutorial recently on creation with Blender, and it came in both forms. I learned a lot from the PDF and refer to it regularly. Never watched the videos.

BUY ANY NEW RELEASE, GET:
60% OFF* 3 or more items from Stonemason's catalog
Errr.... What???
Can anyone explain to me how this Stonemason sale is supposed to work?
Buy a new item to get increasing discounts, and freebies if you don't already have them, on Stonemason items (non-new Stonemason items).
Maybe I get it, stand by. :D
Everyone learns differently. Personally, I am glad that there are video tutorials available here. I have found Dreamlights free tutorials on DAZ Studio, his not so free one on lighting, and Phil Wilkes series on Carrara to be quite helpful. I have also watched free videos on YouTube and other sites as well as reading written tutorials.
Okay, I get it. You don't get 40% off 1 item, but if you buy 1 item, you get 40% off. The text is a little misleading.
It really does make you look twice. Or three times. The more items you buy, the more they are discounted. How about this, marketing?
Buy A New Release and get
40% off 1 Stonemason Product
50% off 2 Stonemason Products
60% off 3 Stonemason Products
Stonemason's stuff is beautiful... and it is nice to get a bunch of it at what would be a reasonable non-discounted price.
But that is part of the problem. At the steepest discounted rate I'm still at $70+ in my cart after clearing out everything else - and I don't know that I want Fern Lake that badly.
I was ALMOST ready to jump, then I said, "I have a lot of content already that would WORK in most situations that I'd use most of THIS content...
I dunno. I think I'm gonna go clear my cart.
@Novica, I think you just got yourself a new job.
Is anyone else having issues with the stonemason sale once it's in the cart? Because I really can't figure out how this cart makes sense. I have both a Debut New and a Still New item, because it's not clear which one triggers the discount.
Bambino Range Boots and Jeans for Genesis 8 Female(s) - still new
UltraHD IRAY HDRI With DOF - Parks and Creation - debut new
Oh, I was seeing the discounts, and they were steep. Put in the fabric gazebo, then load up, say, Fern Lake, Urban Future 2, and Urban Sprawl 3.
Then add all the top free items, and one of the bottom free items.
Of course, I removed everything, just bought the Gazebo, the Orphelia Hair for G3/G8, and the free Ruined Cottage, checkout was a little over $8, but DAZ charged me $55... full price for all items.
I'm a little sick of the glitches constantly going this way.
I've spent more time with Customer support trying to get my money BACK this sale than any other sale ever before. Glad I've been paying attention.
Any new item will trigger the discount, it doesn't have to be in the "newly released" or "still new" categories. It can be anything with a new banner on it. So you are covered there,
but as per the fine print, it won't give you a discount on new releases, like Misty River Gorge.
Misty River iss till a new item so it won't be discounted.
I added every not-new Stonemason product I have in my wishlist to the cart. Saw half my November budget in the cart total. removed a lot of stuff until I got it down to three. Got two free items, because I already own everything else Daz is offering for free. Then I applied my coupon. I was happy to pay less than $50. But I'm now thinking, I may need to contact CS... I'll bet I didn't get the full $6 off, due to the two free items...
ETA: Recreated the cart. Yep. Lost 97¢ of the coupon... I'll buzz CS... They are gonna hate me by the end of the sale!
I'm only seeing 1 "stack up B" item, the bundle of which I have everythign in it already. So I take it I must already own all the other Stack Up items?
CS shouldn't hate the customers who contact them to get back the money that is due to them. CS should "hate" the team that is unable to code the cart to handle the coupons correctly. This bug has been around for years now. How many customers lose money and don't even realize it or know how to get it back? Thank goodness that Daz customer support is always fast and efficient about handling these requests.
Undoubtedly. The items offered for free are much older products. All of them are DOs, too. I was still happy to the put two I didn't own in my cart though. Stonemason does such amazing work.
LOL... this one may be due to coding, but I've screwed up things like checking out and then realizing I qualified for free items... and CS made everything right again. Those folks do such a wonderful job.
They do. They contacted me a couple of days ago because they noticed I bought something where the required item is no longer in the store, so I can't use the product I bought. Wow. I didn't even have time to download the product yet, or notice anything, and they were already in contact with me. (Also got my 80 cents refund, LOL. :))
You contacted CS over .97?? LOL I lost $1.20 from applying a coupon the other day and just lumped it up to all the times I have gotten really sweet deals or insane savings on glitches.
They sure do!
By the way, I put in a bug report about the Fiona Dress setting the animation frame count to 571, and they had a fix posted just 3 days later.
OH well no free Stonemason for me
I own to much
Yeah, CS is great. I already have a refund for the difference to my PayPal account.
I just wish it didn't keep happening. Typical customer... I don't care when the glitches are in my favor... but when they're in DAZ's favor... then I run out of patience. ;)
