    I might consider waiting until AMD releases Vega. Even if you plan on staying with Nvidia for Iray rendering, they'll more than likely be forced to lower their prices to compete with Vega. It might save you a few quatloons on a graphics card.

    I know nothing about Vega, other than Newegg has one listed for about $1,000. And I just saw some news that it's not aimed at gamers, which has everyone all upset. And the Newegg reviews says something about no drivers available. 

    Yeah, I'm in wait mode to possibly get a second NVIDIA GTX card, hoping prices will drop due to that and the bitcoin nonsense and whatever else.

    ...yeah, Vega is actually aimed at the workstations instead of gaming rigs in spite of it's much lower price than Nvidia's Quadro series.

    The Frontier Edition effectively competes with the Quadro P5000 in memory (16 GB) however the Vega uses faster HBM2 instead of GDDR5X memory  has has far more stream processors, 4096 vs. 2560 for the P5000, and costs about 1,500$ less.(1,000$ less for the hybrid liquid cooled version).

    However yes, it is useless for Iray as it is OpenCL based..  Not really sure if Nvidia will have an answer for it even in the Titan-Xp line as a 16 GB enthusiast card would directly compete with their Quadro P5000, and if they also moved to HBM2, their 6,500$  - 7,000$ Quadro GP100.
