Morning. Stuck in traffic complaint is bumper to bumper today, wondering why we call them free ways - taxi meter and electronic tolling seems anything but free. That is my complaint nao :)

I think they're called freeways because someone is getting a free ride from the money they collect! :P

Maybe at one time, long ago, you were free to drive fast - as opposed to city streets - maybe even as fast as you wanted.  I think speed limits were something they invented later on, to get money from speeders.

A comedian once asked, "Why do we park on the driveway, and drive on the parkway?"  Just can't remember if it was Carlin or Gallagher.

...well got everything installed and working...well to a point. While going through emails that backed up FF went into "not responding" mode and simply froze. When I checked Task Manager there were two instances of it running. I tried closing out the second one from the processes tab but it just stayed there. I am wondering if it was the older version that didn't fully close out as I updated it to the current one and restarted it. Another interesting thing happened as well. When I shut the system down to move it so I could plug in the cable a message appeared that some update was being configured. Odd in that this system had no Net connection for about 6 months and I disabled Windows updates in October of 2016 when MS switched to sending monthly updates in a bundle format. OK it gets worse, as to get rid of the second instance of FF, I decided to shut down the system and restart. Well it's been about 15 minutes and it is still in "shutting down" mode. Not sure what to do and am still stuck using the phone.

George Carlin.  A very smart, very funny man.  We need him now.  He also asked, why is cargo on a ship, whereas a shipment goes by railcar?

  • COMPLAINT: I don't know who thought that putting make-up and tattoos on figures as a "diffuse overlay weight" was a good freaking idea! You can't see it in the viewport. You don't know if it's working right when you click on it until you render. And God For-Freakin-bid it is wrong, then you have to cancel the render and try to fix the invisible error some freakin way! And then start it again. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. I hate this. It's annoy and it's inefficent and it's just plain dumb! *screams*

Complaint; on my fire TV the recently added list shows pretty much all the music I ever gotten on that account.  Well the digital version.  It appears that it is like the purchased list except for it includes some unplayable music by me since I did not purchase it but requires either a paid subscription or for me to find some way to purchase it.

Another complaint is my computer is behaving so slow it is hard to use.

...well finally got everything ironed out, after about another five minutes did a hard shutdown and restart getting the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen.   Still do not know what "mystery" update that was as the system wasn't yet connected, and like I mentioned, it has been off line for over 6 months with Windows update turned off for over a year.

Feels so much better to use a real keyboard again and have a full sized display, and very fast response.

Basically, if you buy it in the regular market, it's probably the same thing.  Sweet potatoes have been mistakenly called yams since colonial times.  Real yams are a very different food.  I didn't know this until I just looked it up, either.

Doesn't one normally make one's bed after sleeping in it?

True but I washed my sheets today as today is laundry day.  I am not really making my bed but putting the sheets back on the bed.

...can't wait until I get real Net service restored. So tired of going back in to what I just wrote several times to correct typos. A real pain as the cursor rarely goes where I need it to be. Also hate the fact I can't do any formatting or paragraph breaks without going through the very tedious process of inserting codes. Also tired of getting those forum update and "draft saved at..." messages as they usually cover most of the editing window making the process even slower as I have to wait until they go away.

Here's hoping good things happen sooner than later...!!!

...three and a half hours to go. Very simple setup as the building is already wired for it and there are jacks in the wall. Need to most likely update some of the work system's AV utilities. Need to decide as the Symantec service I had was provided by the last carrier. Malware Bytes complete seems to get very high ratings at Newegg and costs less than the 3 system package Symantec has. Also need to update the other two notebooks (one is Linux) then I can use them on the Net. Need to find a way to transfer files off the 12 year old one with the bad display as the HDD is still good.

Does windows boot without a monitor? If it does you could remote access the machine in admin Mode via a LAN and grab the files you want from it :)

Non-complaint: being a short-timer gets me out of certain meetings.

Meeting host: "We're here to discuss firmware issues and our new software development process."

Me: "Why am I here? I haven't worked with the firmware in six months."

Host: "We're also discussing our new development methodology."

Me: "My last day with the company is November 30."

Host: "Oh.  Sorry, you can go."

I guess my boss hasn't told everyone I'm on my way out the door.  Well, back to documenting about 34 modules and 6000 lines of code...

My sunday meeting is cancelled this week yay! Still need to go to a saturday one tho :(

Cozy inside is the most important thing.  Freezing your yarbles off indoors is depressing and painful...

Yeah, I didn't set the heat on until late October.  I was wearing a fleece sweater jacket most of the day, inside.  But when it got down to 62 inside, that's when I decided enough is enough.  62 was on the thermostat...which is at eye level for me.  Down where I sit at the desk it was probably in the upper 50s.  My hands don't do well in the cold.  Fingers get stiff and typing is uncomfortable...playing guitar is downright impossible, and it hurts.

    Dana

Cold fingers kill typing productivity for me.  Brrrr, frozen fingies!

Reminds me, I need to buy a Winter hoodie...

We have 43f outside at the mo, with wind fron WNW at between 8 and 20mph (gusty wind)   I have my thermostat for heating running at 54f and I am sitting here wearing a long sleeved tee shirt with a cotton camisole under it.   My typing fingers do get stiff, but that is more just the Arthritus kicking in because I am having to do all the chores now. Himself used to do things like peeling veg and washing up which are the sort of thing which make my hands stiffen up.

Auto veg peelers work mostly, is age of miracles thing

...don't have a router so unable to set up a network. However, I checked several tech sites and followed various disgnostic suggestions mentioned (save for using an external monitor as I don't have a VGA cable). and pretty much feel I narrowed the matter down.  One of the tests was to place a flashlight to the side of the display, if I could see faint images it most likely is the backlight element that's gone bad as when the display initially comes up, it has a reddish tint then flickers and goes dark.

Not an expensive fix (about 20$) and I have bookmarked a page that goes through a step by step disassembly of the particular model I have.

The other possibility is it is the inverter which also is not expensive to replace.
