I certainly am not crying... I am not buying because I am waiting for G8 Michael. Hopefully it will not be long....
...in the "yeah, but" category, Pro Edition allows you to defer updating for several months in hopes that any bugs which might have appeared, were squashed, With Hone Edition, you can't, as well as being stuck with the spawn of Bob and Clippy known as Cortana. Why do I need some ridiculous "personified" digital assistant when I'm the only oe using the system? I think I am capable of knowing when to put the kettle on, feed the cat, or change my socks on my own,.
There is still also the issue of reserved VRAM under W10. Apologies not into paying 700 $ for a 1080 Ti to roughly get the avilable memory of a standard 1080.
The Vram issue is either fixed in Win10 Pro, or fixed in the Quadro drivers. Here is a screenshot showing my MSI Afterburner GPU Memory usage tooltip (in the bottom right) durring an Iray render.
Windows + Chrome are using around 300MB and Studio and Iray are using the rest with the total sitting at 4032MB on my 4096MB Quadro K5000M

Edited: post shortened in order not to further distract this thread.
1. Please check your DAZ Studio Log file how much of your VRAM is actually useable.

2. I was not able to test myself if Quadro cards are affected or not.
If you are a Quadro user please post a screenshot of the VRAM information in your DAZ Studio log file in one of the allready existing threads.

3. What we do know is:
A large majority of users of both Iray and OctaneRender use Geforce cards.
Nvidia and Otoy both confirmed the issue.
Nvidia is talking to Microsoft about adressing the issue.

I will investigate further in a couple of weeks when I get home to my Geforce GTX 1060 equipped desktop.
Here are my Quadro K5000M 4GB findings
When Daz Studio loads up it claims :
CUDA device 0 (Quadro K5000M): compute capability 3.0, 4 GiB total, 3.35428 GiB available, display attached
When I added up the total for what was sent to the GPU for this render it came out to 3.67817 GiB.
Add that to the roughly 300MB that was being used by other tasks that where already open when I launched Studio.
Once again I will investigate this on my GTX 1060 when I get back home.
Thank you for looking into this.
-> Try to have a look at the DAZ Studio log file when
- nothing is in the scene
- no other applications are open
I love Clippy! Also there was a digital assistant called Prody Parrot in the 90s I really loved too.
As a programmer I would like to be able to accurately dictate to a coding IDE (note: I have not actually tried to do that yet but will in the future!).
I have used the Google Assistant and the iPhone Assistant and the Google Assistant is much better. Cortana is basically the same thing as those. I don't have much desire using Cortana on a regular computer but I can see using Cortana on an iPhone or Android with Word, OneNote, a lightweight Visual Studio that would fob off the source code I dictated to my 'Home Network' Windows PC and compile it in Unity for example and then deploy the App I would be developing to my iPhone, Android or Windows tablet to test run. Wow!
However, I've not really used Cortana at all yet despite the fact I have not disabled it. I have only dorked around on my iPhone a bit with the Apple Siri and the Google Assistant and don't use them. Amazon is supposed to be releasing one too and I could imagine a place like Wal-Mart would develop one too. eg. I have dieted since February and lost 55 of 65 lbs I intend too and it was a lot of fastidious nutrition recording but now that I am about to expand that diet to include many more recipes I have to modify because I am a vegetarian I would like a digital assistant that would allow me to dictate ingredients and their nutritional information and then dictate the recipe to use those ingredients and it combine and calculate those too. Now I have to manually type all the stuff in MyFitnessPal and frankly that 'website / app' is one of the poorest quality databases, app and search engines I've ever come accross so a competent nutrition and recipe app from these deep pocketed grocery chains or digital would be welcome. I would like to be able to dicatate to my phone my shopping list and what is already in my cupboards and refrigerator to a digital assistent and it suggest recipes and shopping lists too. And also adding things to shopping lists when I run out.
As far as insulting and inappropriate intrusiveness Google easily takes that cake. LOL, I've always surprised Google gets a pass on that sort of stuff while Apple and Microsoft doesn't.
I haven't tried Amazon Alexa yet either. It's not yet on an iPhone app or Android app
Will I like humour and childhood style cartoons but it doesn't offend me that others think it is immature to like those things. Clippy was quite comically originally animated. The smile I get from such things are worth it. I do admit I couldn't stand that helper dog or most of the other office helpers or was indifferent to them but then most dogs and cats I don't like but I keep my mouth shut and devise very thorny hedges in my yard to keep those irresposibibly owned pets out of it.
Anyway, Siri, Alexa, Cortana, the Google Assistant - none of those things are going away and they are only going to be more tightly integrated and more functional. Eventually I imagine they'll make them easier to turn unambiguously on and off.
