And Genesis 8 is reality today, just the date was wrong :D

Just a friendly reminder to everyone- if you haven't already downloaded an extra copy of the current studio version (to have in case your current one fails for some reason) then I would do so. When a new version comes out, the Product Library removes the old one. Just wait,  people will be wailing that they didn't remember to get a copy of the previous version. Always happens.

studio recently been updated more than once too especially the beta one had updates in dim looking in my product library says 4.5.1.56 is inactive as is some goz, a lot of the other offical? daz made plugins are still ok dosen't say the current number listed in my product page but parts of the content listed as being inactive got studio open current version is 4.9.3.166

side note like many others I have studio and content installed on another drive since the main one is so small but I have to constantly install stuff more than once first via dim then inside studio sometimes more than once and then sometimes I have to install other parts of products seperately as well such as posese or materials this happen to anyone else?

I think that would only happen if the update is still version 4. Unless policy changes if we get DS5 you should still be able to get the last version of DS4. I still have DS2 and DS3 in my product library

None-the-less, it still would be wise to download and save a copy of the current DS4. And don't forget the version of the plugins that work with it.

don't remember seeing the paid versions of Daz must have been before I really started though I do sort of remember something said about pay and free think only versions I had was one of the 4s prior to that was freebie copies got with magazines cds didn't really get into it then think I got into it was when g2 came out or was out for a little while

was thinking something else though what if the next gen is basicly like g3 BUT with extra options in morphing shaping and more control over say creating unique expressions facial morphs and other poses but the basic structure is still the same as g3 which would also make it backwards compatible with all the clothing props poses plugins and so on made for g3 which would also mean if you have products like the wear them all would also make them compatible to use g2, genesis, v/m4 stuff

That would be wonderful in my opinion, but I doubt it will happen. I would be happy if we had the level of compatability we did between Genesis and Genesis 2.

I'd really like to be able to do a bit more with primitives. Things like the Pathfinder functions in other grahics programs. Union, subrtact, intersect, exclude. Hell, just be able to split a poly when I want to. Not that I expect to see it.

    @ANGELREAPER1972

There was such a big ruckus when DS4 went free from those who paid for pro I cannot imagine how anyone missed it, mind you that forum long gone .......

"Inactive" means that is not in the store anymore - in the case of GoZ presumably because it is included with DS.

That sounds like a Content Management System issue - as if DIM is not able to write to the database or DS not able to read. There is a section in the Documentation Centre on troubleshooting CMS issues.

    Genesis 8?

I was under the impression that "Genesis 4" would be Number Q and the next version after that would be Triangle.Pumpkin.

This new system makes no sense.

(Never mind... I see it was a joke/mistake/plot by the illuminati/misunderstanding kinda thing)

Glad to see #Q is still going to be the next version... Phew... It woulda been so confusing otherwise.

I am glad they did so.

If memory serves me correctly, this happened about the time of the transition from DAZ Studio 3.x to DAZ Studio 4.

It was several months after Studio 4 came out; I don't remember if the change came before 4.5 or as part of Studio 4.5. Early versions of 4.0 came in three flavors, IIRC. Free, with a subset of the CCT for about $100, and the full pro version with the complete tool kit for $250. I'm probably off on the pricing.

Checked my orders - August 27, 2011 I purchased the 4.5.1.56 advanced upgrade - at a discount because I owned the 3.1 tools. So the change to free came sometime after 4.5.1.56. And I am off on the pricing. :-)

I was currious, so I had a rumage though my emails and I was quite shocked to find I still had invoices lol, those prices don't include any discounts...

    2008
Daz Studio 3 Advanced - Full Price was $229.95
Figure Setup Tools Bundle for DS 3 - Full Price was $179.95

    2011
Daz Studio 4 Advanced - Upgrade Price was $109.95
Content Creator Toolkit (CCT) - Upgrade Price was $99.95

I thought about setting up a hardwired connection between the notebook and workstation to use the notebook's wireless connection. Not sure If I need a router though.

Not sure about your situation but I bought a Wifi usb stick for my PC - a few dollars and it works like a charm. Also has Bluetooth. Just plugs into any USB port and your PC should recognise it (otherwise there will be a driver or download).

...but don't you need to subscribe to an ISP for it to work?

I have done this before. You don't need a router, just an ethernet cable. You can Google the instructions on how to set it up for your operating system, it isn't very difficult.

If Genesis 4 was a single base figure like Genesis, that might tempt me to buy it.

With my luck DAZ Studio 5 and Genesis 4 will have every feature I want, but not be able to run on my system or any system I can afford, lol.

    ...cool, thanks.

Had to laugh... "Genesis 8" is clearly 4+ years down the road.  Now if it had read Genesis 4 or even Generation 7 it would have made more sense.

Thanks DAZ_steve for putting things straight and also mentioning something to look forward to.

...Headed back to Carrara discussion.  Awaiting a new and improved Genesis 3 or 4 which works in Carrara 8.5 as well as awaiting Carrara 9.

...maybe it was like Microsoft which went right from W8 to W10 skipping 9 in the process.

Edit: I am also really hoping that there is no DS 5 soon, as that would likely break a lot of plug-ins. I would prefer it if this new stuff Steve mentioned is put in a DS 4.10 which means we get new toys, plus all the old ones work as before. I personally see no reason why a new Genesis release needs DS 5.

...but, our update releases go to 11!

Help us with dual core computers with no Nvidia graphics cards render great renders in less time now that would blow my mind!!!

That would be nice, but doubtful; that's why I upgraded to a better laptop.

...that's why a memory upgrade and a 1080 Ti are on my "to buy" list.

oooooooooooooooooooooohhhhh! I wonder if that means if Victoria 8/Genesis 8 is closer than we expected? Like say, June 20? LOL!

  • If they did bring numbering up to the same those used for Victoria etc it would save confusion on whether someone is talking about a Generation 4 or Genesis 4 figure and potentially a Victoria 5 etc  or Genesis 5 figure. Also if at some point in the future they wanted to avoid the number 13, they could just use something else for everything. :)

Well if they release 'a' DAZ Studio 5 I will very surprised and interested to add what major capabilities they have added.

...and what we lose, especially with any plugins.

If we lose plugins, can I keep 4.9? Or does installing a new version automatically override? Then again, 5.0 beta will likely be released months ahead of time so I can test with that.

You can have Studio 3 and 4 installed on the same computer. So far the only restriction is that you can't have multiple x.y versions with the same value of x, except for one release and one beta.

I'm hoping that the same will apply to versions 4 and 5 when 5 is released. If not it will certainly delay me installing version 5, maybe even stop me completly.

Just to point out that 5.0 does not automatically follow on from 4.9; the iterations are NOT decimal, so the next version could easily be 4.10.

... but I expect they will allow different versions to run together, and I certainly hope so.

If all previous clothes fit, all previous shapes can be transferred over, and all previous poses work, then I'm all aboard from the beginning! (Or is that just a tiny bit too much to ask? :))

I'd guess you would have to buy the new version of Wear Them All and some PA created clones. Oh, and UV swap products. Not to mention a whole new raft of body and head morphs followed by PA-created bend fixes and additional morphs like Glute Control and Breast Control. Then there will be the HD add-on packs and the PA-created Vascularity and Ageing morphs. If you need the gens, you can either pay through the nose for a Pro Bundle or wait for an enterprising 3rd. Party like 3feetwolf to create a stand-alone version. I'm sure there are lots more before you get to the same level of usability that you enjoy with your G3 or G2.
