It'll be a shame if it's totally inaccurate, as combining the Genesis number with the figure numbers is a really good idea. And 8 is a lucky number in the burgeoning east asian markets, so no better opportunity to do it than this.

So, you are saying it could be a G8way drug for a whole new market?

Don't give up the day job, M8.

Personally, I'm hoping that any new Genesis release will be timed with a new version of DS. :)

So what are you saying you have some inside info on DS5 ??? please tell us more !

I won't specifically speak to a version number, but I will say that some of the stuff coming out the second half of this year in Studio will seriously blow people's minds.

When it does come out, then I hope they do call it Genesis 8, then at least that is in step with the numbers for Michael and Victoria. It also prevents confusion when someone shortens it to Gen 4, as we would not know if they mean Genesis 4 or Generation 4, where as anyone saying Gen 8, it would be clear what they meant.

Edit: I am also really hoping that there is no DS 5 soon, as that would likely break a lot of plug-ins. I would prefer it if this new stuff Steve mentioned is put in a DS 4.10 which means we get new toys, plus all the old ones work as before. I personally see no reason why a new Genesis release needs DS 5.

Hmmm ... I think the only mistake in that post aside from its apparently accidental release is the picture of the Genesis 3 figures instead of 4s. And  calling it Genesis 8 would make sense, being how easy it already is to confuse people with the various G4 models already out there.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!  I know I have my personal wishlist of things I'd like to see in Studio (particularly before we see the next figure generation), so I'm really hoping some of my wishes become reality.

If I were making copy for a potential ad, I would grab whatever imagry is at hand, design the rest of the ad, and pop the correct picture in later. It seems more like a placeholder image.

  • ByrdieByrdie Posts: 1,783

Yep, obvious placeholder is obvious. Therefore I'm expecting to be greeted with newsletters advertising New Genesis/New Daz Studio in about 10 days.

I didn't know of such a thing as a place holder ad till I saw Zev0 recently do one

yeah I too like the idea of calling the next figures gen8 and for newbies it wouldn't confuse them as much

said before was hoping daz 5 would have more creation tools and primitives to play with and perhaps two versions of sorts the standard free version that you could buy add extra plugin tools with features contained offered in the other daz type programs like hexagon, carrara, bryce and so on that you could pick choose what you want  and a full paid version that has all that combined already

in poser they have that ability to morph reshape a figure adding horns or whatever  inside the program so be nice if the new daz and new figure/s offered that ability

and if they did offer in the next version something that allowed you to do everything in their product instead of us investing in others products as well  it would be of benfit to both them and us

Well most designers use templates for ads and banners to save them time. They are created in advance. They can put all the text in and just shift colors of fonts or whatever when the photos arrive.

If Victoria 8 really is coming out soon though...some pa's would already have the figure to design content for her probably for sometime now as content development takes a while. So Vicky is likely already out just not released for sale.

Well if they release 'a' DAZ Studio 5 I will very surprised and interested to add what major capabilities they have added.

...and what we lose, especially with any plugins.

If we lose plugins, can I keep 4.9? Or does installing a new version automatically override? Then again, 5.0 beta will likely be released months ahead of time so I can test with that.

You can have Studio 3 and 4 installed on the same computer. So far the only restriction is that you can't have multiple x.y versions with the same value of x, except for one release and one beta.

I'm hoping that the same will apply to versions 4 and 5 when 5 is released. If not it will certainly delay me installing version 5, maybe even stop me completly.

I'm hoping for Genesis 8, and versioning renumbering to match so that we get DAZ Studio 8, and hold on to your hats, Hexagon 8, Cararra 8.8, and Bryce 8. People got to 8 you know.

True, but due to things like NDAs (Non-Dislcosure Agreements), they can't outright say so; and yes, companies do take violation of them very seriously.

DAZ already tried the multiple version thing and it bombed. That's why everyone gets the extra tools that are used for content creation along with the usual stuff (aka Pro version).

Not so much 'bombed' to my way of thinking -- more along the line of "If we make the creation tools available at no extra charge we could end up with more content creators and more revenue than if we charged for the tools."

It was several months after Studio 4 came out; I don't remember if the change came before 4.5 or as part of Studio 4.5. Early versions of 4.0 came in three flavors, IIRC. Free, with a subset of the CCT for about $100, and the full pro version with the complete tool kit for $250. I'm probably off on the pricing.

Checked my orders - August 27, 2011 I purchased the 4.5.1.56 advanced upgrade - at a discount because I owned the 3.1 tools. So the change to free came sometime after 4.5.1.56. And I am off on the pricing. :-)

  • Help us with dual core computers with no Nvidia graphics cards render great renders in less time now that would blow my mind!!!

That would be nice, but doubtful; that's why I upgraded to a better laptop.

  • I think it will be here THIS MONTH. What other figure is there to release?

    Exactly!!!!

Every time I upgreade to a new Daz studio I end up with computer problems that keep me from rendering for days-months (depends on how much time/patience I have to spend on it) as I have to sort out bugs. I feel like when they release the new Genesis 4 the amazing new male bundles won't be coming out for the rest of the year. I like the female bases, but hate most of the bundles. If nothing new is coming out that I want, I can focus on finishing off the items already in my wish list.

Either way, this summer is looking promising.

don't remember seeing the paid versions of Daz must have been before I really started though I do sort of remember something said about pay and free think only versions I had was one of the 4s prior to that was freebie copies got with magazines cds didn't really get into it then think I got into it was when g2 came out or was out for a little while

was thinking something else though what if the next gen is basicly like g3 BUT with extra options in morphing shaping and more control over say creating unique expressions facial morphs and other poses but the basic structure is still the same as g3 which would also make it backwards compatible with all the clothing props poses plugins and so on made for g3 which would also mean if you have products like the wear them all would also make them compatible to use g2, genesis, v/m4 stuff
