@DAZ_Steve, why is this kept such a secret from buyers? More people would buy if they knew about it. I don't have the banner, will any purchase get me the banner or is it just for special people?

Any (non free) store purchase will make you a bonus buyer.

OK, then why is this being kept a secret for only forum people who may stumble on it? Terrible marketing. SAD!  (LOL) ;)

They might have been testing it out for bugs today, ready for roll-out tomorrow when March begins. :)

But it's not being kept a secret.  As soon as you make a relevant  purchase you join the hoards of enlightened customers.

Do you mean 'horde' or 'hoard'? Wait, given my DAZ collection, I suppose both are valid. :-)

It gives you an additional discounts for a few days.  If you buy anything else during that period you stay a bonus buyer.

Does that mean we stay a bonus buyer, period; or that we stay a bonus buyer for a few more days (from date of latest purchase)?

    LOL!

Im just wondering, does anyone know where to start when looking for a sku that is 16000 or under? Im assuming it may be in the v4/m4 section but I havent checked yet.

This one can sort by SKU, may be a bit easier to work with as it links directly to product pages:

Excuse me, it is a secret. If a customer does not make that purchase, they would have no clue this was happening unless they specifically came across this thread. And only a handful of people ever look at forums. So...yeah, that's a secret. I haven't bought anything...so there's at least one person who was surprised by this thread.

That people had to come here, asking questions about how the sale works, is the very definition of bad marketing. Customers should NEVER, EVER need to ask questions about a sale...if they have to ask, you already failed. That would be my motto as a manager. People have to constantly question whether their cart is correct in this store. Its madness, and not the March kind of madness. It leads to confusion, returned items, and sometimes it leads to people choosing not to bother buying anything at all. Clarity and transparency really need to be given more focus here.

I wasn't too excited for this sale. At least I haven't seen much to strike my fancy. BUT now that I am aware of this, maybe I'll actually buy something. Funny how that works!

Sales are great, and its nice that Daz has figured out sales can be a good thing (LOL,) but man these sales are not very friendly to anybody who is an outsider or new to Daz. The goal should be expanding your user base, not just serving the same people who've been here for years. And, hey, its great to serve long time users, too, but this seems too exclusive to me.

The simplest solution is to...gasp...advertise this element of the sale. Buy any sale item and become a BONUS BUYER for X days!!! Buying on more days extends your BONUS savings!!! Your BONUS savings grant even further discounts on LEGACY ITEMS in the Daz Store!!! **Legacy items refer to SKUs less than 16000**

Was that so hard? I mean seriously, that hype talk sounds like a pretty good way to drive entice more people to buy stuff. Isn't that what you want? More people to buy stuff? This is baffling to me.

Bonus buyer is not guarenteed through the entire sale, and the stuiructure and offering of it may change.  The sale is pretty clearly called out: Buy an item for 40% off, or two or more for 50% off.  For now we have chosen to thank those people who make a purchase by offering them a temporary increase in their discount, and we clearly tell them what it is.

So, for those making a first purchase, we tell them what the offer is.  For now we have chosen to offer our appreciation to folks who make a purchase by giving them something additional.  When we do, we tell them what they get.

By doing it this way we have the flexibilty to change thing up, and offer more or different things, while not misleading anyone as to what they are getting.  So, you and I may choose to have a differnce of opinion as to if that is the best way to structure a sale like this, but in the mean time, if you have made a purchase, please accept our thanks by way of the additional discount above and beyond what you expected.  :)

Bonus Buyer is like the children in Knowing (Nicolas Cage film): If you did not hear, then you cannot come.

  • I know that a lot of customers would like to see things clearly and definatively spelled out.  But the reality is that sales morph over time based on how well they perform.  Elements of the sale are fairly "locked in" and we clearly call them out.  Other items, especially items that are a bonus, above and beyond what was promised or communicated, ebb and flow based on what is working well.  It is this flexibility that gives us the room to give you things that appeal to you.  I know it may seem liek things are set in stone and we're keeping secrets or just not communicating everything, but there is actually a method to the madness :)

If I'd made a big purchase on day 1 of MM, I'd be pretty annoyed to discover that I could have got 10%-30% off that purchase had I just bought something cheap first.

You're also not telling people what they get once they're a Bonus Buyer. There's nothing in the banner to indicate that the discount expires after three days, unless you buy something else. That's kinda important, don'tcha think?

I know the marketing people like to retain as much flexibility as they can to chop and change things at will, but from this side of the table it's intensely annoying. Not everybody has the resources to buy everything the moment we see it, some of us like to plan our purchases.

The 72/48/24 hour sales we had over the weekend had clear expiry dates on the banner. The sky didn't fall in, did it? Why can't that be done for every sale? You can always extend those dates if you choose to.

It's a good job the Daz products are so good, because the marketing can be terrible.

[Added:] Incidentally, this should be a good news story. It's not unusual to have a "buy something every few days to get an extra discount" offer, but usually the "something" you have to buy is one of a limited number of new releases, and the discount excludes things like PC+ items, gift cards and memberships. In this case you can buy anything, and use the discount on everything. I don't understand why you're being so shy about it.

Totally agree. I only bought something today because I heard of the bonus in the forums. I would not have purchased anything if I hadn't checked here. And now I'm searching for products with SKUs less than 16000 which is TIME CONSUMING and there should be a LINK. It's like Daz WANTS to make it difficult to shop and buyers will just give up. I guess it could be fun if you have time, kind of like a treasure hunt, but a pain if you are on a tight schedule.

Actually, "pendant" for "pedant" is "cool" forum talk; it's like deliberately typing "teh" for effect instead of "the". Mispelligns have become the currency of those who are amused by misspellings. As we see, DAZ_Steve is a master. ;-)

I made a purchase earlier today of something that wasn't even new and got the banner (that I didn't have before that)....so I guess it must be ANY purchase? ;) Yes, the sales here frequently confuse me too, but I just roll with it. LOL

I got the banner after I bought two items (early morning Daz time) the first day, but I thought it was because I spent so much money here. Ha! In fact, I put in a ticket asking for the 10% discount to applied to my Day One purchase because I thought it was just a case of the usual late banners syndrome.

I am kind of shocked to see multiple people yelling at the nice dev who is explaining stuff to us and giving us extra discounts. Like... why? Are you upset on behalf of the people who are only going to buy a few things this month and don't read the forums? The person who, not knowing or caring how to get the best Daz prices, paid full price for something they could have gotten 10% off on?

I agree. Kudos to DAZ_Steve for coming to the forum and explaining the terms. It is much appreciated.

While we're on the subject, was there actually an MM freebie on the first day, yesterday? I didn't really fancy anything yesterday, so I didn't buy anything to qualify for the bonus. And every time I looked at the sale page yesterday, I saw no freebie section at all, as opposed to what I see now, an actual freebie section with no items (because I already "bought" today's one).

And of course, I didn't make an effort to find something worth putting in my cart because what instructions there were didn't make it clear we couldn't see the freebie section until after we were eligible for the bonus.

Yes I am. Not everybody has money to throw away, or the time to trawl the forums in search of basic information. You might not care about such people, but I do.

I'm not shouting at anybody, but I am offering some constructive criticism. I'm grateful to Steve too, but why should we have to rely on the largess of "a nice dev" to tell us what the terms are of one of the year's major sales events?

  • exstarsisexstarsis Posts: 2,128

Because they're a private business. They're not providing a public service; they're entitled to make their own decisions as to how they promote their business. This feels very much like getting angry (sorry, offering 'constructive criticism') at a restaurant's chef when she comes out to say hello because recipes aren't published on the menu. If you know Daz, you know they like to go for an element of surprise to add to the fun of their sales events. If you don't know Daz, you also don't know what you're missing-- that was my point about those categories of people. They don't know what they're missing; they're not suffering as a result.

  • WonderlandWonderland Posts: 7,137

But it's a nonsensical marketing strategy. I know I would not have bought anything yesterday if I hadn't heard about the freebie and discounts in the forum. I may not have bought anything for all of March Madness, but now that I know there are perks and freebies, and the possibility of deeper discounts,  I'm more likely to buy. And hunting down SKU numbers is so time consuming without a direct link, that many people will skip that. So it almost seems like DAZ doesn't actually WANT to give people discounts and freebies and hope they don't find out about them or take the time and effort to use them. Only a small percentage of buyers probably read the forum so they are losing sales from all those potential buyers who might buy something they wouldn't have to get freebies and deeper discounts.
