There's no inner surface so I just copied the violin and moved it down, hid everything but the belly, looked good enough.

Inspired by some real world pictures.

Wow, talk about thinking outside (Inside) the box! This makes for a very interesting interior space.

I don't think I ever would have thought to do this, which  makes me mad at myself. Lesson learned. Nice work!

Inspired by the wizard product, I poked around at making my own with what I already have (though I'm definitely going to pick up the recent thing at some point).

Ended up using Aldo, Ollie nose, a few more tweaks, beard boss, Predatron's monk robe and sandals (which autofit surprisingly well with Sickleyield's clones), royal elf cloak and amulet, Fantasl Hall, Rawart's recent troll, surge spell effects, and a positively ancient Bewitching for Genesis to get the hat. (Retextured the robe a bunch with a decal, used my iridescent shader on robe and hat)

Used dForce for the robe and cloak, though had to add a weight map to preserve the cloak's collar (which looks fun and I didn't want it to go all saggy baggy)

I am not a photographer, but still I try to go, what I know of cameras. Think IRAY as a camera.

well I don't know a thing about taking a good shot with a camera either.

cool, how did you do those volumetric lights?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,085

Just the usual fog thing; big cube surrounding the scene, Refraction Weight/Index 1, SSS at about .00004 or something.

My photography classes happened over 20 years ago, so the only things I remember are that ISO and F-Stop are words that exist.  For figuring out the Iray settings, SickleYield has several tutorials on her DeviantArt site that I keep bookmarked for whenever I'm wondering what exactly those options do and are for.  Here's a few...

    https://sickleyield.deviantart.com/journal/Mini-Tutorial-Iray-Progressive-Render-Settings-557481988

She starts covering Iray in 2015, so poking through the journal starting then provides a ton of help for getting your Iray shots to look great.

I've been working with a method of using makeup on additional characters as developed by j cade, which I posted in my Art Studio thread, L'Adair's Kitchen, here. I tend to use subtle makeup, if any at all, and I wanted to do something a little different. I ended up using Vanity's makeup on Edie 8 for this image:

    And I rendered a closeup:

Why don't you make product that is a huge, and I mean huge, selection of natural human skin tones as either a UI or a huge set of material presets? For the entire world along with the reference population you used to make the presets. It'd probably need to get no bigger than 256 presets really if not half that or much less as I'm not sure how much varience there is except more than what is is the store which no one is even sure of since it has been approached artistically not technically. You'd want to use an albino skin texture set as base skin I'm guessing or maybe no diffuse and just gloss, bump, normal, displacement, and a translucency map.

It's take a lot of research and trail and error. You'd need to create a neutral lighting, outdoor lighting, and nighttime lighting test render environments to make sure all the skins reacted correctly to the light although once you got the albino correct all the others should fall in line pretty easily.

Just FYI @dragotx I have a sci-fi tread over in the art studio section.  I’d be happy to see your sci renders over there.
