It was happening so much, you just had to wonder if they were doing it on purpose to encourage spending at a time when people might have been focusing their expenditures on Christmas. Genius marketing with a psychological flair or negligent programming... Who knows?

I thought it was on purpose - but then again it was happening when I first joined, so I didn't know any difference. So from day one of me being a part of the Daz community and buying 3D content I was getting great stacking sales. It lasted months and months like that so I thought it was normal. Now that it's been a couple months of not happening any more it makes me pretty sad. I'm not sure I can get used to "only" 50% discounts when all I've known since I started buying 3D content has been 70%+ discounts. Don't get me wrong, 50% discount is still a great deal - but when you are used to a higher discount, it's really hard not having it anymore.

The best deals are now Fast Grab, 72% off with extra 10%. Even the old products with extra 30% off only come to 65% off which is not great considering how old those products are. Glad the Fast Grabs are turning over faster than normal and having some newer items on my wishlist.

When there is no event on, each day is (usually) a 3 day set of conditions. So there are usually 3-4 going on at the same time thanks to a new one each day but lasting for 3 days. This is how stacking happens.

When there is an event on, each day is part of that event's sale.

There is only one big sale on instead of the several that are normally on. What is it meant to stack with?

If you're looking for value for money (not the same thing as cheap) in the below-16000 SKU range, stock up on 3Dream/Mairy hair. The ones I've tried Slosh's Iray hair shaders on look good, plus they come with a zillion movement morphs, and in a variety of creative shapes. A bit of Y-translation/scaling plus parenting will make them fit most anyone.

The scalps don't always cooperate with hairshaders, but just use control+click to apply the base Iray Uber shader, and adjust base color to match whatever you do to the rest of the hair, and you should be good.

So what is the secret freebie today? My congrats you are a secret sale buyer thingie ran out so I can't see it.

Just an axe set. So if you don't do a lot of fantasy renders - nothing that exciting.

There is a lot of that this sale. :)

I agree with @Divamakeup. I came in during last year's march madness sale. I think I got my PC+ year membership for $4. I bought a bunch of Generation 3 character/figure pro packs for $4... V4, M4... That sale was the best, although Christmas was great too.

The only thing about this sale is it is saving me a ton of money. :)

They really should hold March Madness in April, after people get their tax returns, anyhow.

If it was just glitches up until and through December last year - and the PAs were complaining - it'll be interesting to see if the PAs see a decrease in the total volume of sales this sale with the less aggressive discounts.

I've come to find out the hard way that Mac users often get hosed when it comes to DAZ-related software. :T

So, are we just not sharing stacking sales this time around...

Or is this sale just way less impressive than past ones, so far?

I remember the Christmas sale started off a little slow, too.

I think they've made some coding adjustments - it seems there really hasn't been much in the way of good stacking in quite a while. I used to find really nice stacking deals nearly every week. Now I haven't seen really good stacking in quite some time. I definitely miss it. But it's causing me to spend WAY less than I used to ...so I guess that's a good thing. *shrug*

My guess is that DAZ got some major complaints from some of the PAs that their products were being sold at a 90%+ discount, and so they did look at trying to seriously curtail the kind of crazy stacking we saw in December.

If that's the case, I don't blame the PAs at all. I still think it was pretty shifty how RawArt got seriously hosed when he had his annual birthday sale (which had generous discounts as it was)... and then there was the whole Christmas/New Years discount that took a significant cut from the total price, no matter what else was going on. I get we all love sales as much as the next person -and I certainly do-, but some PAs have this as their full-time job and they gotta eat and pay the bills, too. I think something like this (10-30% off the total after buying something from MM) is as fair of a compromise, IMHO. But that might be an unpopular opinion, I dunno.

It used to be true that OS X was a true Unix, but when the switched over from G++ to LLVM in order to achieve a .NET like compiler, things started becoming less and less unix friendly. Wine works, as well as it does in Linux as far as I can tell, but it has it's good and bad points. I haven't tried this program, but I've encountered some things that are built with basic MS tools that simply don't run under wine that really should be fairly generic.

As it's UNIX certified, it is true UNIX, otherwise we might be calling it UNIX-like (which is how Linux is described); I'm not seeing anything to say it is no longer certified.

My issue with it is that it's a lot harder to do work with GNU software after the switch over the LLVM. Maybe that doesn't make it a unix OS, but it does make it less GNU friendly, and, IMHO, that was one of the huge draws for me. Now, you need to use brew in order to get a working copy of gcc and things just aren't as easy to deal with. I do some work with software that uses some old hardware acceleration (pre GPU) and it won't compile at all with LLVM and it wound up being easier to install a linux VM in order to work on that project.

The only problem I have with this is that I have to eat and pay bills too, so that excuse means nothing to me. If you decide to make anything your fulltime job that can't support you, that's your own fault, not the customer's.

The xmas sale seemed pretty planned and all of the freebies everyone was diving for were Originals, so it seems fine to me. I probably would have passed over a load of PA items I bought during that sale if not for the DO freebies. Overall if PAs have an issue with how much Daz takes normally then it's up to them to sell here or not. In other industries the site taking 25% of sales is already considered excessive, but 50% seems to be acceptable here. There's no right or wrong there; the PAs choose to sell here or not.

However I completely agree that the way Daz messed up RawArt's birthday thing was ridiculous and I hope he was properly compensated for it.

Isn't there usually a catchup sale at the end so we can all get what we missed?

  • donovancolbertdonovancolbert Posts: 1,421

    Here is the thing....

If RawArt has already recouped the costs of creating the item and it is all profit for that artist going forward...

And I wouldn't have bought anything from their catalog even at their birthday sale price...

But I did buy items because of a glitch that made the price drop significantly.

Did RawArt LOSE money, or make sales that they wouldn't have made, otherwise?

You might argue that some people who would have bought at the more expensive price ended up getting items at the cheaper price - and that was lost money - and it would take a HUGE increase in total purchases to compensate for that factor. You might be right.

I don't know. I think it is a cup half full/cup half empty scenario. But I know this - if this is how March Madness is going to go, I'll probably be keeping far more of my money in my bank account than last March, and DAZ and the PA's will be seeing far less of it going into theirs. If their total income increases for this sale, that isn't a problem for them. If their sales numbers drop though - it is something they'll notice. That is how free markets work.

    @lx

The secret shopper banner doesn't seem to be progressive, or at least I haven't purchased enough to graduate to the next level of discount if it is, and I haven't heard anyone else say their discounts have increased, or that the newer SKU numbers have been added, or anything that would promote buying more to keep it from expiring.

So, letting it expire doesn't seem like such a bad thing at this point.

Those things not changing was confirmed (in a forum post) a few pages back.

I'd be perfectly fine with the amounts and what it did if they weren't determined to carry on with all this secrecy nonsense.

Daz_Steve explained, in one of the several threads,  that the banner lasted for 2 days after your last purchase. If you din't buy anything during those 2 days then the banner bonus goes away. However as soon as you make another purchase it comes back.  If you buy something regularly you can keep the banner there all the time.

  • donovancolbertdonovancolbert Posts: 1,421

So, if I'm planning on buying several things that are expensive, it is probably worth buying a little something inexpensive first that I want, so that I get the banner, then making the bigger purchase.

It is kind of a weird promo.

Yeh, maybe, depending on how the reduction on the expensive items compares to the cost of the inexpensive one.

And once you get the banner don't forget gift cards are then discounted by 10%; so, you can get a little more savings by first buying a gift card for the amount of the expensive items.

I keep forgetting about this trick. I've got to remember that! "Buy a gift card if you have the banner then use the gift card to buy the item!"

  • Pretty good deals today with the now 60% off RDNA stuff.  There are still a few I'd like to get that are price way up from the Christmas sale.  But, I did pick up the majority of my RDNA wishlist for around $2 each on average...not bad.  I've been finding a lot of really nice V4 clothing that is easily used with G3F.  A few shader tweaks and you've got updated clothing for a really low price.  The only issue I find is that so much of the RDNA clothing textures aren't labeled as such.  You have to go in and read the description carefully to make sure that you're getting the actual models and not just an addon set.

As far as new items go, I have an idea...especially for very prolific PAs.   Do a shopping bag deal.  I mean, put up a banner any 5 items from one of these top PAs for $20, including new releases.  It's the same idea as a build your own bundle...But, it means that any participating PA is assured of at least a $20 sale.  You could even do stacking and do 10 for $35.  This would work well for PAs that do a lot of similar type of products.  If you have X, Y, and Z characters that I really love, and A and B characters that are nice, but I really don't need, I now have a good reason to go ahead and pick them up.  The same would hold true for pose packs, props, etc.  The set dollar amount is important because it causes people to look at it for both value and budget.  "I can spend $20 today for a great deal like that."

Just some thoughts.  I don't want to devalue the great work that the PAs are doing at all.  I'm just suggesting a way for PA's to supersize the order, rather than just giving a price break up front.   In my own business I do a similar type of sale.  You'd be amazed at how quickly your average order can increase.

Of course, if the PAs don't like the idea, Daz can do it with just Daz Originals since the artist has already been paid.  Nice thing for Daz is that they have way more product than most of us could ever purchase.  So, selling low to increase the cart doesn't kill future sales as long as new products keep coming out.  The other nice thing is that because these are intangible goods, the inventory cost never changes.  Once it is paid for, it can be sold over and over and over without any additional overhead.

Firstly, I was going to start a new thread for today's store update because the items are filled with a dozen must-haves. I can't believe it. I am stunned and went from being a little underwhelmed to thinking business as usual. To thinking this is cool to being excited and now I just hope I survive. The airport. Has anyone seen that vendors catalogue??? AND.  AND there's an alien planet ready to go. The magic effects- all of them.....

found hair..... Lots of hair. Lol

this can't continue. I won't make it through 3 more weeks of this.

    satire follows:

    im ready to...

    Search in the couch

    hit my cars coin holder

search all my dress shirts, pants and suit jackets for in-spent tip money

    to raid my 401k

take a loan from the local mob boss

take a cash advance on a high interest credit card

steal my neighbors dog and wait for him to post a reward

sell that old pile of newspapers at a traffic light as if they are new.

buy an item with a mail in rebate, mail it then return the item.

Dress terrible and seek a donation from the church.

have trumps and Wesley snipes accountants do my taxes

sell paprika and parsley (and maybe some broccoli) In a bag to the local hoodlums

paint some Advil pills yellow and orange and sell them at an EDM fest.

put a  picture of me doing a sad-face on a can by the checkout and see what happens

    satire ends----------

again, I know somewhere you guys gave the answer, but tell me again. How do I search the store for runtime Dna items?

no more deal no more discount no more banner...wow sadcrying

  • BTW...FSL Elements of Magic, was an insta-buy for me.  I don't usually buy new releases on the first day.  But, with the MM discount after pairing it with the Trading Floor Suit (great set of clothes), I had both in the cart for under $15.  I realize that with some effort, I could probably make up an FX set like this on my own.  But, I love these handy prop shapes and FX.  The whirlwind and magic walls should be useful with othe Iray shaders I have from IDG as well.  So, it's worth it to me to have these ready made FX for the few bucks they cost.  I tend to go to these kinds of quick FX over and over.

A couple others of my faves like this are the IDG Iray FX, Sickleyield's Fast Flames Iray, and Stonemason's Iray Clouds.  All of these produce great results for very little drag on the render.

If any of these PAs are listening, another great package would be a big expansion pack of FX Shaders to go with these props...some combos would be nice, like a flame center with lighting at the edges...or water edging to frozen...that sort of thing...maybe some ice shards.  Even muddy blobs and dirt clods and particles would be cool. :)

The "Bonus Buyer" banner is triggered by a purchase and is active for a short time. I believe it is good for three days, including the day it is triggered. I'm not positive if the purchase must include something featured in March Madness, but I'd recommend it to be sure.

If you've made a qualifying purchase but the banner has disappeared, I'd say check back in a while. If it doesn't reappear, contact customer support via the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.
