  • Figures

Genesis 8.1 is the latest. The various Genesis figures come with Daz Studio, the Genesis # Starter Essentials products (split into male and female packages for Daz Central and Install Manager, though by default Daz Central will install the base content at the same time as the application).

  • Daz Studio does not work!

I had to re-load Daz Studio due to a loss of hard drive and up grade to SSD drive. I reloaded DAZ Central It works, I re-loaded DAZ Studio current version: (4.20.0.17 64 bit) Movie Maker files are missing: "Data file(s) were not completley loaded". and none of the content will load. It is were it is supposed to be located but a notice comes up "could not open file: file does not exist" yet when I check they are there.Tried do re down load DAZ Studio in DAZ Central yet I can not find any link are were to do so. I payed for these files (many thousands of dollars worth) and not one single file will load into DAZ Studio. Oh yes the OS is all up to date.

  • What's the point of Daz Central when I still need to install content in the Daz app?

    nicstt said:

You don't need to use the Daz Studio to install content; I don't like it and don't use it. I also don't like Daz Central.

    For example:

I use DIM and manual installs; DIM for Daz purchases, although I have been known to use manual and of course manual for other store's products.

I like DIM as it is simple to use, does what it says on the tin, and is totally seperate from Studio. Studio is a 3D app, and I can't say I like having it connected to the internet; I hate apps that have to do that and avoid em.

... With DIM for instance, you can change the folder that the Manifest files go to - putting them elsewhere than the C drive; the same is true of Downloads, and of content. If you want to put content in multiple libraries, again it is easy to do.

    +1 to all of that

  • What's the point of Daz Central when I still need to install content in the Daz app?

What do you mean by "have to"? If the content doesn't work without then your paths do not match between Daz Central and Daz Studio, probably meaning you used a different route to install Daz Studio and the content or that you have adjusted the settings; if you download http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/install_manager_config_import/start using the link above the code and drag the downloaded file into the Daz Studio Viewport it will update the paths to make the Central installs available directly.

  • What's the point of Daz Central when I still need to install content in the Daz app?

If you are using DAZ Central, Daz Install Manager or installing your content manually, there is no need to log in to DS and one is better off not logging in.

Logging in to DS is only needed when one uses DAZ Connect within DS to install content.

If using external methods of installing content and still one is logging in to DS and installing content there as well, all the content will be installed twice (in to two different locations, taking twice the space) and the DAZ Connect installed content will override the content installed externally, even in cases when DAZ Connect installed content gets corrupted and not working.

Set your Startup preferences for DS as in the attached pic. and never log in to DS again.

Daz Central is fancy n all that, but what's the point when I still have to install the content as a second step in the daz application itself?

  • Managing a Large Library and Using it With Multiple Machines...

Having DS and your content library on the same drive will not necessarily solve the delay you are seeing (moving DS to the mechanical drive with your content library will not help).

Moving your content library to an SSD, either your system SSD or a separate one will help. So would configuring Windows not to put your mechanical drives to sleep, or getting a mechanical drive that spins up faster.

When I first moved my content from a mechanical drive to an SSD, it helped with loading time. Later, I outgrew the SSD and moved my content back to mechanical drives, but the drives were newer and I did not notice a slow down in loading content.

Your (reasonable) options for sharing content between two systems without using a cloud service are

    1. an external drive as noted by Leana
    2. sharing a drive (or directory) from one of your systems on your network
    3. adding a network attached storage system to your network

The downside to the first is having to move the drive between systems (and only one system can access at a time)

The downsides to the second are

    • The system sharing the drive must be on for the other system to access it
    • Slower access (loading and saving) speed if your network (not Internet) connection between the two systems is not fast
    • You need to ensure PostgreSQL is running on the sharing system if you want to access metadata (smart content) on the second system + extra setup steps

The downsides to the third are

    • Slower access (loading and saving) speed if your network (not Internet) connection between the NAS and systems is not fast
    • The NAS cannot run PostgreSQL (easily) and so one of the computers must run it for it to be available to both + extra setup steps

If you will not be using both systems simultaneously, I recommend an external SSD over the networking options (although only for simplicity), and configuring DS (and DIM/Central if you ever decide to use them) to store both your content library and the CMS Cluster Directory on the external drive.

  • Save/Compile Scene Assets

Yeah, I understand. That's why I put everything in a central location. (I also work with more than one runtime, which you can set up as Subdirectories inside DS). I've been trying to build a graphic novel for years now and if I didn't have things in a centralized location, I couldn't putter on that without having to rebuild characters and environments, or work on my latest sets for Daz, or work on personal art projects on both my machines. I have a little 1 terabyte external drive to port everything around on and I'm pretty happy with the arrangement.

I want to buy Fluidos II for DAZ, but I can't tell if the "normal" version or the "lite" version is superior/newer. It says that lite is a newer version, and faster, but I also don't want to lose any functionality. What do you recommend?

The Lite (https://www.daz3d.com/fluidos-ii-for-daz-studio--lite-edition) is a reduced version of the normal (or complete) one (https://www.daz3d.com/fluidos-ii-for-daz-studio). The speed of Fluidos II Lite is the same as the Fluidos II normal version, but both are faster than the original Fluidos for Daz Studio plugin (https://www.daz3d.com/fluidos-for-daz-studio).

Thus the Fluidos II normal is the most complete version.

By the way, Fluidos II (all editions) is about to be updated to v2.2. This is a tutorial for a rocket https://youtu.be/wK3vZr5Ikmg.

Oh, good news! I've bought Fluidos II (full edition) but now, I'm trying to set it up and I just can't. I've tried both DazCentral and installing from within Daz Studio, on two different machines, but somehow it doesn't show up in Help -> About Installed Plugins. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

It cannot be installed from within Daz Studio, only the contents (shaders and scenes), but Daz Central should install the plugin. If you can, try to install Fluidos II via the DIM.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry about all the questions. I used Install Manager, and then tinkered with the settings for a bit. When I finally started the simulation, DAZ crashed immediately. This happened on both of my machines. You may have an idea of what the issue is, but I'll include the log from my Mac in case it helps.

You're welcome! Don't hesitate to ask all you want to know about the plugin, please.

It seems an issue with OpenCL. Try again disabling OpenCL (Inside Advanced Settings of the Fluidos Domain).

Measure Metrics (the pl;ug-in, which adds a bunbch of new features to daz Studio, has to be isntalled through DIM/Daz Central/standalone isntaller, and requires a serial number entered through Help>Installed plug-ins) or Figure Metrics (a script and utility wearables with a separate isntaller, that can go through Daz Studio, and which is loaded like any other content giving a dialogue for the prepared figure that lets you see the vital statistics and set target values for soem of them that it can then try to match)?

  • Daz Studio Postgresql And No Database Found Error

I installed everything again, even daz central, and deleted even appdata folders before install. But when i open the daz it gived the same error. But it showed login screen too but also ended up on an error message without any title or text in it.

Whatever, i saw that i can click on start or stop cms buttons(I were cant before the reinstallation) so i stopped it and start it back. It doesnt solve the problem for sure so i decided to reset the database via content db maintenance. When it finished i processed metadata queue and re-import metadata trought the same path. It also didnt solve the problem because i were still cant login or cant see my files.

But whatsoever when i exit from daz and run it back when i got reply from you it showed me the same error as usual, but beyond that when i try to sign in from the page that appears at the first time you open the app it just didnt give any error and i logged in. So now i can get acess to all my files.

Dont know what solved the problem, probably reinstalling and resetting database and running the app after closing it, but here we are and i hope it helps anyone gets the same issue as me.

And thanks for your interraction with me too Richard. take care
