  • Imported Poser (.pz3) model messed-up hands

    Hi guys,

I would need a little help in fixing this. I created my custom model in Poser Pro (and a LOT of work went into it, so starting over is a very last resort), and I tried importing it in different ways and formats, and so far I've found the best result to be when I simply import the Poser scene file with the .pz3 extension.

I'm completely new to DAZ 3D, so I know very little, and I can't even begin to guess where one would go to try and fix this. I tried scaling and messing with some parameters but I haven't found anything that affected this.I have no other issues with the model as far as I can tell, which is admittedly not very far.

Anyone has any ideas? Thank you!

  • content manager SQL not working.

The log-in is to your account, Connect will use it to download content (you will need to update metadata for it to have the full list of what you own at that point), check membership for the Premier features (which matters only if you are a Premier member), get personalised notifications to show in the File>New dialogue. The PostgreSQL message is not directly related to that - it is trying to access the database so that it can populate the content panes that use it.

Connect does install files locally, though it uses a different location and puts each product in its own folder.

The ContentCluster folder is the database - by removing it you removed the existing content data, you will be able to reimport the product metadata but unless you exported user data or have a back up you can restore the entries for your own files and any customsiation you made to store entries have been lost (the files themselves are still there, of course). Uninstalling the PostgreSQL didn't touch the AppData folder because unisntalling should not (at least by default) touch user data.

I am unclear as to whether the clean database is now allowing you to connect successfully - if it is then it may well be that the database was corrupt anyway.

when you click the login from the connect drop down menu is that to connect to the Content Cluster (folder/database) or is it to connect to Daz for using Connect content etc?
The Connect content would not be on my computer? So instead of loading it from my computer via DIM it's loading via an online conection?
I've never used connect and it wasn't until I tried to use Riversofts Character Converter have I had a script or anything that complained the cms --- database wasn't available.
    ----
As for the login from the connect menu on the windows 7 machine it opened a dialogue for me to put in my password and then completed the connection.
So the win 10 machine it never offers that option just said "it failed to created an active postgreSQL connection which meant it couldn't talk to daz for Connect?
    ---
Upon starting now it doesn't say "it couldn't create a postgreSQL connecion any more and Riversofts character creator works because it can look up all the characters to convert.

  • Dforce hair flick issue anyway to fix it?

Probably... but it'll still depend on how you make the morph. You may try a static simulation with the hair on a certain key frame, export the result to OBJ, then import as a morph. Then dial the morph properly in between an animated range.

I appreciate the information. Unfortunately, "Refresh" doesn't seem to do anything when I click it. I still have to do that weird database refresh every time. As you said, I do not install while DAZ is open.

And I figured I was just out of luck with the Lost and Found items. I understand the basics of setting up install folders and getting 3rd party items into the content library, but I do not feel technically skilled enough to monkey around too much with the "under the hood" parts of DAZ.

DIM is probably the most straightforward of all of these.  The most important thing is to make sure that DIM is set up correctly i.e. your Daz content is going to the appropriate folders and the database is in the correct location.  Click on the gear on the upper right corner and check the configurations of the installations.  Next, go to Daz studio and Daz Studio Preferences, and Content Manager, and make sure Daz Studio can see the installation locations.  When you install via DIM, Dim retrieves a zipped file, decompresses it, ideally doles out the contents to the appropriate locations such as geometry info to data, textures to Runtime>Textures>specific texture folder, sends a file to the shared Daz 3d> Install Manager>  Manifest files where DIM looks to figure out where and if a product is installed, adds files to Runtime>Support which include the product name and image, and I think lets the CMS know that this product exists in your inventory.  When the locations are wrong, this breaks down.

The Lost and Found is a bit more complicated. Products generally end up there because they don't have the proper metadata or broken metadata. The repair is suprisingly simple. The first thing to try is to delete and reinstall the product because sometimes the the installation garbles the metadata.  Other products such as products from other stores may have no metadata.  I suggest learning a little familiarty with selecting the lost and found item, right click on the product, edit metadata, and setting the item to be for a prop for Genesis 8 female for example.  There are endless Youtube videos on how to do this and set up DIM if you would like some visual examples.  We can supply those.  It is all reversible and shouldn't be too scary.

I bought a desktop computer last summer and eventually downloaded all of my DAZ3D assets via DIM.  I have 1,300 products in the Lost and Found folder.   I know that I can manually categorize the Lost and Found items but might there be a way to resolve this more automatically.  I tried uninstalling one of the products with DIM and reinstalling it to see if that cleared the Lost and Found items in that product.  It did not.  Any advice?  Thanks.

What does Fixed a regression in the script that backs the “Create Poser Companion Files…” action mean ?  What does  “Create Poser Companion Files…” do ?

A regression is when a new version breaks a feature that was working previously. So they mean that they fixed a bug that was introduced by a previous update.

"Create poser companion files" creates files that the DSON Importer plugin for Poser uses to import content in DS format in Poser.

Great ! Thanks ! Then I just let go this latest version as I'm never a Poser user.

  • Convert blender to.obj

Export to Wavefront OBJ format via Blender > File > Export > Wavefront (.obj) with the settings in attached screenshot 1. Them import in DS File > Import.... (Wavefront Object format) with default settings in screenshot 2.

However, in quite a lot of cases, especially when the models are made with some complex Modifiers in Blender, you'll probably find unexpected result and/or artifacts on the imported objects in DS. So there're alternative exporters like Better FBX Importer / Exporter that can really help and are cheaper than Blender to DS plugin (this plugin cannot work well in some of above-mentioned cases either ...)

  • [Released] Content Wizard [Commercial]

Ran across a bug where installing Smart Content fails if the Product Name contains certain characters, including ":" and "/". It creates a Product but fails before adding metadata to any of the contents. It's particularly frustrating because it leaves behind a glitched Product with no contents or categories, which prevents you from just fixing the name and trying again. If you do, it complains that there were errors during installation.

It is possible to get rid of the corrupted Product, but it's a hassle. In the Products tab of Smart Content, click on All Products and filter to find the Product (which will have no image). Right click on it and select "Show Product in Content Library". It will switch to the Content Library with that Product selected. Right click on that and select "Delete". You should now be able to go back and try to reinstall. There may be other ways to do it but this is what worked for me. AFAICT this doesn't have any side effects.

It looks like it may be sanitizing the string to remove forbidden characters, but not all of the time, so string comparisons fail and it gets confused. As I recall, when trying to reinstall with a corrected name without deleting the glitched Product first, the log will show a message like "Expected <corrected product name> but received <broken product name>" where <broken product name" is the original product name with colons and slashes removed. Unfortunately I didn't save the log so I can't show you an example right now. The next time it happens (it's probably inevitable that I'll get sloppy or miss something at some point) I'll attach a log.

One product that caught me with this recently is "Gia Halter Dress for G8/8.1 Females by: Rhiannon" on Renderosity. It actually got me twice: once because I accidentally included the "By: Rhiannon" part when I copied and pasted the product name, then again because I missed the forward slash.

Thank you for the bug report.

  • Looking For Medieval bedroom fit for a king or queen

Yes, they won't be in Daz Install Manager.

DIM can only download products from Daz site. It can install some content from other sites if you place it in its downloads folder, but only if that content has been packaged in a specific way which is usually not done for content from Rendo or freebies.

    To install content manually:

    • Unzip the product zip into a temp folder
    • Look in the temp folder and locate the main DS folders like "data", "runtime", "people"... Depending on how the product was packaged they might be directly at the top of the zip, or there might be one or more top folders like "my library", "content", or sometimes one with the name of the product above them.
    • Take all folders you have in the directory where you found the "runtime" or "data" folder, and merge them into your DS content directory: merge "data" from the zip with the ones already installed, same for "runtime" and any other folder already existing, and simply copy over those which don't exist yet.
    • Your new content should now be available in the "content library" tab next time you open DS (or after a refresh if it was already open).
    • If the vendor provided a "Support" folder with metadata for the content, you can reimport metadata and it should then appear in "smart content" tab too. Otherwise, if you want the content to appear in "smart content" tab too, you can manually categorize the new files.

  • DIM - Product Install Issues

    Hi All -

I recently performed a clean install of DIM (Windows 11 system), for the purpose of installing all my DAZ content on a dedicated External SSD (new drive). After performing the clean install (see steps below), DIM began experiencing issues (failed installs, DIM crashing, etc.) during DAZ product installations. Additionally, when product are installed, some are showing up as "package has no additional metadata" (see screenshot) I have had DAZ for +3 years and have never had issues like this before; they only seem to have cropped up after upgrading my OS to Windows 11 (via a clean install).

In terms of DIM failed product installs, it's occurring for roughly 15% of the products. The logs consistently show a "[WARNING] :: Extract File Failed - CRC mismatch, data likely corrupted.: F:/Daz/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library....." error for each failed product install.

When DIM crashes, it appears that the External SSD connection is also being affected, as the system appears to be making the typical Windows USB connect/disconnect alert sound. Based on my observation, DIM is only crashing when it's downloading and installing 200+ queued products. DIM only crashes when installing products, and doesn't crash if I just download the products.

I also have seen several "[WARNING] :: Remote Name Collision:" messages in the logs. I know that Logs will inheritantly contain warning messages, even when the issues get resolved, so this may not be related.

I have taken the following steps to resolve the issue(s), with no luck:

    • Tried installing DAZ products (via DIM) with all firewalls, AV, and Windows Security disabled.
    • Installed the GoDaddy Certificate
    • Whitelisted all the DIM, Daz, & CMS apps in the Windows Firewall
    • Created AV Scan Folder Exceptions for the DIM, Daz, PostgreSQL CMS, Carrara, & Hexagon
    • Deleted the & the External Drive Daz folders

I took the following steps when clean installing DIM, with no luck:

    • Uninstalled all Daz products via DIM
    • Uninstalled DIM, Daz, PostgreSQL CMS, Carrara, & Hexagon
    • Deleted leftover folder for DIM, Daz, PostgreSQL CMS, Carrara, & Hexagon
    • Reformatted the External Drive
    • Deleted the Daz Registry Key
    • Restarted the Computer, prior to reinstalling DIM
    • Upon initially opening the DIM (Reinstalled), I used the work offline feature to configure the Daz & DIM folder paths for:
      • F:\Daz\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
      • F:\Daz\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\ManifestFiles

Thank you both, but I've already tried what both of you have suggested and it doesn't work.  In order to see the problem (and if oyu have time), please try it yourselves (using the actual G9 Anatomical Elements) so that you can see exactly what's happening.  If you are able to get the G9 Anatomical Elements out of Daz Studio, into Blender for a sculpt, then back out to Daz for import via Morph Loader Pro without issues, then I would really love to know the settings you are using at each stage of the Import/Export process, because no matter what I try, it will not work.

At first I thought it might be a bug, but the same thing happens regardless of whether I use Diffeomorphic or not.  So it's promising in that it's very likely something I'm doing wrong, but without knowing the settings I'm supposed to use at each stage, I'm up against a brick wall really.

  • New Year's DAZ-olutions?

I am never good with 1 January resolutions so I started some 'non-resolutions' last year. With my doctor monitoring me, I have been losing weight on average 5lbs a month. Bought some hiking sticks to support my back so I can get back to walking again. But a new health issue has popped up and my energy is getting wiped out with exhaustion. Hopefully tests this coming week will determine the actual cause and an action plan. And dental copays up to $4000.00 for two procedures are a hit. And for DAZ, I pushed to render that backlog of characters who needed initial rendering, and by doing that I worked with lighting sets, new backdrops, and environments I have bought. And don't forget clothing and hair and makeup (which is something I often ignore or prefer not to use). But the past few months have worn down my rendering as the sales have really taken a toll on my actual time for working on Daz Studio, except for metadata and thumbnails for new items. My purchases will be down. Wishlist will grow.

I have opened DS6 (v32308) on my MacMini and moved it from my MAC Studio Monitor to my HP monitor and found that every drop down menu is appearing on the MAC Studio Monitor in that extremely tiny print and almost illegible. Does anyone have a way to get it to appear on the HP monitor where the Studio is opened on? I have tried closing D|S while it is on that monitor and reopening it, but it defaults to the MAC Studio Monitor and I have to move it again to the HP monitor. BTW this has never happened before. The screenshot is off of the MAC Studio Monitor.

Edit to Add: I have tried rebooting my computer with D|S having been on my HP monitor and it still opens on the MAC Studio Monitor. Depending on what I was working on when I shut off my Mac, and what monitor a program was on, it reopens on that monitor. And this is the first time I have seen this behavior with DAZ. Just opened 4.24.0.4 and it opened on the HP monitor without issue.

Please check that this is true in the current build, 6.25.2025.35308.

Richard, I resolved my problem by changing my primary monitor on the MacMini to my HP monitor which has a lower resolution and D|S (both versions) opens just fine there. I have had to adjust my personal habits but that is on me. So the folks working on D|S don't feel bad, my Apple Studio Display shrinks down every window I pull over to it and I often have to squint to see them. Just depends on what I am working on what is useful for me.

On my Windows 11 computer I am not having any issues. And regarding the metadata, that was on me. I was trying to work on both computers the previous day and started to miss products. So no issues with that.

  • Looking For Medieval bedroom fit for a king or queen

Renderosity is a legitimate 3D content store, selling mostly content for Daz Studio and Poser (they're also the current owners of Poser). It's probably the biggest site for DS content beside Daz store.

If you purchase content from them be aware that in most cases you'll have to install it manually, and it might not have metadata for Smart Content.

Another thing to know about Rendo is that they have a free content section where you can find lots of interesting freebies.

  • Diffeomorphic - The Correct Geograft Workflow?

As I understand it this is not specific to blender and doesn't even require a bridge, it is enough to import/export via obj in any 3d application, then use the morph loader. As for specific settings of the morph loader better ask at the daz studio forum, but if you sculpt the geograft alone it should work fine.

Diffeomorphic is not specifically designed for this kind of scenario, for what I know.
