Victoria 8
Well I can't say that I have a bad memory but I can say what I do remember or don't I have no control over and I do remember I have bought the Girl 7 Pro Bundle and the Guy 7 Pro Bundle and did not have any sort of orange banner discount for having bought Genesis 3 Pro Bundles.
Anyway, as I will be buying the Girl 8 and Guy 8 Pro Bundles when they come out, presuming those products are continued, I didn't buy the Victoria 8 Pro Bundle or even Victoria 8. I did buy the Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs, Genesis 8 Female Body Morphs, and Genesis 8 Female Expressions as 'required' for doing any take on an orginal G8 character.
I'll eventually get Victoria and many other G8 realistic characters I suppose or maybe the backward compatibility will get me to buy the older versions with the bundles I like better. That's mostly done to the included hair and clothing in the bundles and actually very little to do with the 'look' of the included model.
I can't say I'm surprised that no hair, cloth, muscle, or fat dynamics was included yet in DAZ Studio and Genesis technology but I am happy the Genesis 8 seems to have included every technical improvement they could muster short of including dynamics. I am really happy with Genesis 8. From the improved iRay shaders to the eye lashes to the improved muscle and joint flexing to the improved expressions to the improved HD and backward compatibility and included clones. I remember very well having to buy seperate and not cheap products to do alot of what should have been base functionality in the past that is now included in the free Genesis 8 Female Essentials.
And I hope these Power Pose Templates will make posing easier.
As far as Victoria 8 I like her look. She does remind me a bit of Barbara Streisand though, not that that swayed me one way or the other.
For me Genesis 8 was the easiest buying decision yet of all the past 3D models (even though I seem to be missing the orange loyal customer discount banner
).Victoria 8, a bridge too far???I would have loved to see G3 given more time to mature. We were seeing creative envelopes pushed further as the figure aged, such as the centaurs. But now we're back to the treadmill of re-releasing the expected named figures like Victoria, Olympia, Gia, etc. At least that's the way I see this going.
I get it, Daz needs to make money, and I can't fault them for doing what they need to do as a business. But from my point of view, releasing G8 puts a damper on where G3 still had the potential to go.
Novica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9Didn't have a good morning this morning. Part of my son's right lung collapsed this morning, (about 50%) and he was hospitalized of course, and will probably have surgery this next week.Last time this happened was 4 years ago, it was the other lung and thank goodness, that one is staying attached to the chest wall. If you have tall, thin, caucasian boys, this is a condition that apparently affects some of them. Don't ignore "achy" chests by thinking you just slept wrong. Lung collapses aren't necessarily sharp, stabbing pains in the beginning. I wanted to mention this in case it helps someone down the line. (And if you know a parent of a tall, thin, white teen, please tell them about this. It's pneumothorax. It's usually teens through twenties, but can happen later too.)
I'm just getting caught up in the thread and read this. Sorry to hear that this happened. I never heard of lungs collapsing without injuries before. I guess there are some advantages to having boys who aren't tall and skinny. I'm really glad he seems to be doing better. Hugs!
DAZ does not give PA's any sort of list of who bought our products, so that's one thing you can relax on.

On the other hand, and this is a debate that was active back before I closed my Rendo store in 2006 or so, a list of customers is pretty much useless for the purposes they claim. Why? Because some people have multiple accounts - one for their purchases, and one for their renders, just as an example. It gives them an extra layer of privacy. There was one merchant on a certain other site that actually had a very public meltdown about pirates there, and at least one person they "named and shamed" proved they did, in fact, own the product legally through another name... which led to a massive debate about multiple accounts.
As BOTH a merchant and a customer, I don't like the idea of being given a list of customers. As a merchant, it is pretty much useless to me (especially at DAZ, where THEY handle any form of DMCA or the like), and as a customer I'm not sure I like other merchants knowing exactly what I did and did not buy. "Hey, Val, you bought Supertechno Longjohns," they might say, "but why didn't you also buy Cyber TightyWhiteys?" Now, no merchant I know would do something like that, but there are people who do think like that.
Meanwhile, let's see more lists! I don't make it onto them, but it's interesting to see what you guys enjoy!
Well, you are on my list, I own 94 of your products lol. I also probably have another 3/4 of your shop wishlisited. Your items are those things that are used all the time and are essential to a lot of scenes but don't get mentioned for exactly those reasons, because we don't tend to think of poses or weapons or any of the other hundreds of things that make a scene pull together. We just use them.
I love Valandar products and have 195 myself and even more wishlisted. Not sure if this means I win or if I spend too much money. ;) Hopefully, someone will post that they have more Valendar products than I do. I agree that sometimes it's those little things that really make the scene that tends to be forgotten when we go to give credit. This is especially true of utilities, poses, and essential props. I've found myself having to add things like that weeks later to my gallery images when I remember that I used something but forgot to list it.
If you want to post your images in a thread and not have them clunkily attached below your post, here's where you can post them!! (Note one problem with that- you won't be able to get the name of your original image by clicking on it, it's mumblymuck code. But you can always download it and rename it.)I've been wanting to experiment with the Private setting for a gallery for a long time. Today I tried it. All the images in this post in the Hidden Treasure thread are in my new Post Attachments sub-gallery. But with it set to private, you can't find it if you go to my root gallery. However, I can use the various size images from those pages in my posts. And my filenames retain their original names. Just thought you guys might want to know.
Yeah, I set one up awhile back. It's nice having a place to put images you don't want to upload to the general forum but want to still be able to use in a post. This is especially true for PMs where you can't upload an attachment and might not want to use the thread for attachments. Having a private gallery is a good place to upload those images.
I know today will be filled with Victoria 8 postings, but I wanted to point out something in Fast Grab today for less than $4: Ecomantics - Efficient Ecosystems. I bought this set 4 years ago and it works well in 3DL. These are billboards of grass, bushes, and trees you can assemble yourself or use the presets that combines them in a linear or circular scene. Today I tested it in Iray just letting the system do the conversion and it looks good. Note the individual blades of grass you see, much better than the usual flat textures you see for Iray. This Iray render is of one of the linear scene presets. It took 6 minutes to render. I did adjust the cement texture tiling in the X direction as it loaded stretched out (simply made tiling 7).
Oh, that looks nice. I have that but have not tried it in Iray. I think I'm going to have to load it up. Thanks for showing it. :)
I can't believe this thread already has 9 pages! You guys just spin on by. I'll have to see what renders I have with Khory products. I know I have a few of her things in my library and I've used quite a few of them in renders. I missed giving my top picks for May. I did not actually render all that much last month.
Good to hear you son is out of surgery and doing better, Novica.
sad dayI don't understand why we need Victoria 8. All it does is create more confusion. Will this skin work with this character? Will these shoes work with theis morph? Will this texture work with Firefly? Will this figure work with Poser? Will these lights work with iRay? There comes a tipping point where the effort is not worth it anymore. There are already shoes in the store for V8 that look like exact replicas of shoes for V7. Like, what's the point of all this?
The Almighty Dollar/Pound/Euro/Yen, etc.

sad dayI was a bit late moving up to iray and genesis 3- V7 ( just last April) and have invested rater heavily in it. Just as i was actually getting somewhere, Behold! Victoria 8! While i expected it, its depressing. it's like starting a render, and it's going beautifully and when it's almost complete.... the computer or program crashes, and you forgot to save the scene that took hours to make, and now you have to start all over again. i can't re-invest in all the toys all over again like i have with g2 and g3. I can't afford it. just feeling left behind and tired. i hope it works for them, but I think I'll just quit this hobby for a while. I spend too much time and money on it anyway. Forgive the self-pity party, but loyalty has it's limits, financial and emotional.
Nobody is losing anything. Nothing is being taken away. You can continue to use the previous generation figures and assets right alongside the Genesis 8 figures and assets. They are not being made irrelevant in any way whatsoever. You just have a new option and some fresh characters to play with. You dont have to purchase any Genesis 8 items if you dont want to or you can purchase them all if you want to. Its totally up to you.
So Genesis 8 is here!I just realized they skipped Genesis 4,5,6,7. If Microsoft can do it, so can Daz. :)
They didn't skip Genesis 7. https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-7-starter-bundle
Or Genesis 6. https://www.daz3d.com/victoria-6-starter-bundle
The new Victoria is the 8th version of Victoria, the 4th Generation of her on the Genesis platform.
Victoria 7 is Genesis 3. You need to read up on your Daz history:

right, V7 was gen3. Now v8 is Gen8, not Gen4. Why?
So Genesis 8 is here!Keep in mind, there is a new generation, but you can still keep and use the previous generations in conjunction WITH all the "new and shiny." Just because Victoria 8 moves in doesn't mean she can't be rendered right along side your prefered Victoria 7 character. I know people (me included) have spent on Merchant Resources, tools etc..... I plan on using them - I bought them. :) But I'll still be playing with the new generation as well and adding to it....well, because I am a total nut over shiny too! lol (bad Kat !!)
Hmzzz, I thought magpies took a liking to bling.......btw, no harm done I bought the whole caboodle lock stock and barrel (tax return came at the right moment this year) but I've invested pretty in 7's and I will keep using them since frankly, why not. Wether I will be adding 7 content remains to be seen. I would like to start building for 8 but I wonder if hobbyists like me can still do that since my Projection Utility shows no projection templates of any kind. And that sort of stops me in my tracks......ah, well G3 is also fun.

Hmzzz, probably my mistake there is the question of source and target........source is Gennie, target, the crap I'm creating......does anyone has obtained a fine example of dirty rotten trout for emidiate slapping purpose.....
Ah, 3 weeks with 4 hours of sleep do leave it's traces.

sad dayDon't be sad. You have not lost your work. You can continue with what you have. I just got decent teeth for Genesis 3 this month (so I could open her mouth without her looking like a horse or a goon), and now here comes Victoria 8 smiling like she knows a secret on lots of promos! Well, I've already cast my blockbuster with Genesis 3, and I've started production. I will just use Gen8 where I can, and if the expressions are really that much better, then I'll have to make some changes. But the show must go on. Take a break. Have some ice cream. And start playing again. You don't have to be state-of-the-art to be avant garde.

RedactedThe fact that Victoria 5 Pro stuff was included with Carrera Pro was a selling point for me, and was one of the reasons I decided to pay extra for Carrera Pro rather than just buy the standalone. And an extra 10% off does matter to me, as my budget is limited. Sure $6.61 (plus tax) may not sound like a lot to some people, but for those of us on budgets, it matters...
Hopefully the sales team will see fit to credit those of us that acquired V5 Pro via Carrera Pro for the introductory V8 sale. I've been checking my inbox regularly, and patiently...
Okay! Cry and you buy it anyway!I have to agree. Everyone seemed excited until V8 actually showed up, now a lot of people are whining and nitpicking and throwing tantrums because they don't like change?
Actually I'm whining and throwing tantrums because of a lack of change. G8F has exactly the same bad mistake (from my use POV) as G3F, which has kept me on G2F.
G3F was the first figure sinve Victoria 2 not to have edgeloops in the topology outining the main muscle groups, tendons etc. This has meant that all the DAZ Artists and PAs have no defined exact location of various things on the base mesh. And that has meant that most of the figure mophs, FBMs, PBMs, HD morphs and normal maps that have those details think the same parts are anything from slightly to radically different parts of the mesh. And that in turn means they won't mix properly, and mixing attempts make a mess. Whcih leaves the ordinary user stuck with only shoosing between the very few, narrowly distributed provide types, unlike with e.g. G2F where any morphs, SD or HD, or normal maps can be mixed additively subtractively at will. And that means that unlike with G2F or even V4, a great many real world types and levels of definition (not bulk, definition) can't be replicated on G3F. Especially, in my case, my most important character.
I had hoped, really hoped, that with the generation 8 figures DAZ would relearn the lesson they learnt with Victoria 2, that lead to the original Stephanie (Michael 2's mesh - with body muscle group etc edgeloops, unlike the V1/V2 mesh - but the V2 shape and rig) and then the generation 3's on ALL WITH THOSE VITAL EDGELOOPS.
But no. So it'll be the very limited range of definitions as with G3F again, and no mixing again to get others because again the lack of those edgeloops will mean all the DAZ and PA products that affect this won't align again just like G2F.
The fiddling changes they've made i don't care about. The one tha's vital for me they didn't make.

I understand how you're feeling. I bought into G2 heavily just before G3 dropped. I was hoping so much that G8 was a few months off yet, and I'm still trying to figure out if I just jump in and run, or hold off investing like I did with G3.
But as I keep telling myself as well, previous generations don't stop working just because the new shiny is out. Enjoy your purchased content today the same as you were enjoying it yesterday.
Victoria 8Please forgive the Ignorance, but when they say 'backward compatable', could that mean that I can update my character which is a G1 Victoria 5 figure and have her look exactly the same, especially the face and she can still wear all the bits and bobs, some of which is very old?
She won't look the same as you'd have to transfer the skin and shape -- which is the case for going between any generation. Clothing, on the other hand, will fit relatively well depending on what it is.
Thanks for the reply. Skin is fine but can I not just copy the face shape?

AIUTO...CHI CONOSCE L’ITALIANO? PARTE UNDICINovica & Forum Members Tips & Product Reviews Pt 9I'm going to have to pass on Victoria 8 for now. I have a ton of Gf3 characters I have even rendered once yet. Not to mention the large amount of clothing etc I have yet to use. I can't justify it at the moment. She looks good and I do have the 10% off the pro bundle but its not enough. If they would have given me %10 percent off the starter bundle or just the figure, I might have bought it.
+1 ...right up to the point, but not including bit about "might have bought it." I'm going to wait. Two years will fly by, and when V9 comes out, all this V8 stuff will get heavily discounted. And that doesn't take into account all the "buy something and get this V8 stuff for free" offers between now and then.
She looks lovely, if a bit too busty, (bet the lads love that!) but after heavily investing in G2 and then G3 content, I simply can't justify another generation at this point.
Victoria 8, a bridge too far???A lot of you know me, but this post is not what you might think it is.
I personally think the new Vicky 8 looks fantastic!
I also love the backwards compatibility AND the incredibel buy V8 Pro Bundle get V5, V6, & V7 Pro Bundles Free!
I'm a Carrara user, and V8 won't work for me.
My reason for this post is to ask WHY?
WHY do we need V8 so soon?
Just look at some of the new characters for V4 (in one of the other stores), look what they can do with THAT technology.
Daz has yet to fully push its Victoria 6 to the limits of its technology!
Not to mention Victoria 7.
I just wish you guys let the technology breathe a little. I have no doubt in short order you could have gotten V8 quality renders out of V6!
I'm not saying don't try to make great looking figures, just use what you have and make it stretch.
One serious question about Generation 8 models that will influence my support...Not to long ago, I said I was not going to get any Genesis 8 models because i really didn't know what DAZ was going to do to improve on it. But after reading about Victoria 8, I have one question...and if it's true, my decision has been made...
Will Genesis 8 models (including Victoria 8) be backwards compatible with previous models...INCLUDING clothing, poses, textures, and character morphs?
Is this true?
