There would have to be some serious, serious, serious upgrades that put Genesis 9 in a league of its own, if I were to invest. The problem is, I have invested in alot of Generation 4, Genesis 2, Genesis 3 and now Genesis 8. Was relucant to invest in Genesis 8 at first. The improvements are narrow between generations.

At minimum, Genesis 9 would need higher quad or poly count, no bunching at the waist when there are stressful bends, hair would have be fully dForce compliant or equivlant, improved rigging overall. Face needs more rigging for expressions and all the parts in the face need to show up in the scene tab and manipulated using dails, not just the expression window thingie.

Backward compaitblity with all previous stuff would be a must.

It would be nice if there was one standard Genesis Male, one standard Genesis Female. Those Genesis models get upgraded and all items like hair and clothes remain compatible. I have purchased Victoria and Michael 4 times and older content just seems to lose value over time making my investment seem less valuable. There needs to be a sense and perception that all content is viable no matter how old it is and can continue to be used with standard upgrades on single Geneis Male and Female.

I realize that Daz markets backward compatibility with Genesis 8, but it doesn't feel like it, because its new as opposed to an upgrade that work seemlless with your invested content.

Should be like how Microsoft does Windows. Once upon a time Micrsoft produced a new operating system to replace the previous. Now they don't do that anymore. They simply upgrade your operating system via a cloud server.

Daz could sell the upgrade, but the model stays the same, just like Windows is the same. You keep the model and you buy the upgrade giving you the new features. The model is still the same model with all the new features that would have made it Genesis 9. And its completely all recognized with all content with no generational identification creating this sense that what is old, is no good.

It could be my imagination maybe I'm confused and its all semantics. What's the difference between Genesis 9 and one model male and one female model getting an upgrade? Right? It seems like semantics. But the perception isn't semantics. You must buy the new and everything else gets older and loses value.

I'm looking for a product that will allow me to take earlier DAZ Figures, such as Michael 4, and even David 3, which have Poser Firefly shaders (materials) on them, because I used them in Poser. Now, if I bring them into DAZ Studio, is there a product that will apply iRay shaders to them and make them look good? Is Anagenisis II, or something like that the way to go? I've heard that product will work with any prop (or figure), but I haven't seen any examples of that. If not that product, then which?

The models are Steam Dragon, Michael 4, and some Steam Cowboy accessories.  And the freebie is, of course, the A-bomb from Mark Bremmer, which is both stunning and incredibly educational to open up and study how he did it.

I'm really looking forward to this contest. I've had a couple of ideas for male based images for a while now, but never found the motivation needed to work on them. This contest is providing that. :) So far about 1/4 of the way to composing my first image.

I have often found a contest/challenge gives me the motivation and/or direction I need to create an image.

 

I recently finished my own personal challenge on my DeviantArt page, doing a render of each male character and figure, with their stock morph settings, starting with Michael 4.

That is amazing.  I could never be that organized.  I try to do a RRRR (Random Runtime) from time to time to force me to branc out (and use all that content I have acquired).

I have tried different Genesis 8 characters with clothes in Unity and all works well.

The big problem is Genesis 8 hair - most of G8 hair are too high poly.

I have found the older hair (Victoria 4 / Michael 4) looks quite ok in Unity and such hair has not so mych polygons.

I'm not much for horror poems or music.  The closest I can come is Ghost Riders in the Sky.  Vaughn Monroe sang the original version - and he has incredible pipes - but I also like this version from an otherwise forgettable movie, Blues Brothers 2000:

Another influence was HW's thread about JSplacement.  I love displacement, and that program provides an endless playground in Carrara.  Thanks HW!

There ist a nice SF-outfit which acutally looks much better than some of the newer ones, and in a crowded szene the lower texture sizes would be no hindrance.

Loving all the great creepiness! While at the same time learning about Carrara freebies I didnt know about, and learning what Sparrowhawke's new plugin can do. Very cool!

I made part of Michael 4's head invisible, then shaped a sphere, and used one of MatCreator's creepy freebie shaders to make brains.

I modeled (very badly) the paper hat. I thought it would be easier than it was, but three tries still didn't get great results. UV mapping in Carrara half worked.

I'm looking for a way to convert Michael 4 armors to Genesis 8 Male without distortions while a pose.

By a remarkable coincidence, Th AntFarm comes to the rescue https://www.daz3d.com/ape-world-gorilla-armor (though it's Michael 4 so will need converting for late figures and the materials tweaking).

I actually found the opposite, the CMU mocaps worked better in Studio as long as you used the DAZ studio versions on CGspeed

I've played a bit with the aniation by importing it into Genesis (1), make an AniBlock from it. Next I merged Michael 4 into the scene and copy/pasted the AniBlock from Genesis to Michael 4. Playing the same animation on both Genesis and Michael 4 shows that somehow Michael 4 has a problem with the hip placement which cause his feet to go through his legs when walking.

I imported the same BHV file once again over Micaehl 4's skeleton in Carrara and took a close look at how it animates. Sadly the same problem is there as well though with a slightly less severe clipping. My guess is that Michael 4 (and Victoria 4 as well BTW) has some hip/knee displacement making for this odd behavior. That'd mean I have a lot of corrections to make in the final version of my animations, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.
