Here is my usual comparison with tweaks. I think the big issue with her is that her HD morph out of the box is entirely too strong. Conversely, you could load her Non-HD version, but then you have to dial back the loaded head normal to .5.

I always love seeing you're tweaked version. I saved the settings in my phone from one of the older threads.

No prob! I will try to do more of an artistic render later with more stylistic lighting.

G8, 8.1. Right now I have several male characters in my cart for 3.49 each. I did buy g9 morph package so I could have character diversity with included textures.

  • Adding Dual Quaternion support to UnrealEngine4 (Images inside)

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate it!

On 5.1, I already supply the DQS deformer graphs. You need to enable both the deformer and DQSDeformer plugins. There are two plugins. Then you just click the checkbox next to the deformer settings in the Mesh component of your actor. Select Dual Quaternion Skinning and select one of the supplied graphs such as "DQSBlendSkin" (might be DG_ prefix, I can't remember, but the names have DQS in them) and that's it. If you use morphs, use the one with Morph in the name. If you use Cloth, use the one with Cloth in the name..

If it doesn't work for you, please let me know.

edit: Oh, if you rotate a bone and it doesn't update, recompile the graph. If it crashes or doesn't display, remove the DQSSkeleton node and replace it with a new one. For some reason, it sometimes thinks it's a different node if you rebuild from source.

edit2: I updated 5.1-mod to match the pull request code. Same behaviour, just a bit cleaner code.

I have noticed that all the major things I would want to make use of Genesis 9 are never on sale, ie: shaping morphs, makeup, conversion tools, etc. So I've been primarily sticking with 8.1 myself.

They had the usual introductory sales, soem during special promotions that made those larger than usual introductory sales, and I'm pretty sure the morph packs at least have had other offers since.

  • is hexagon still relevant for making daz stuff?

Overall, Hexagon is a good modeling tool ... especially if you are a first time modeler. However, it is terrible for texturing and mapping. Also, some versions have had a tendency to crash so you need to save often ... but I am not sure how the current version is doing. I still use it - especially for architectural items ... organic items like an apple are more challenging.

That said ... if you know how to use Blender (or another program), you should probably just go with that. If you have never used blender, it has a long learning curve ... but it is worth it in the end because it is a noticeably better program for modeling.

OH ... IMPORTANT >>> Daz and Hexagon are made to work together for certain functions. If you send a model to Hexagon, make a morph, and send it back to Daz it can automatically add that morph to the item with a slider. That is a very useful feature which, if you make a lot of morphs, might be worth learning Hexagon for just that.

I'm just god awful with blender. there's so much stuff and so many rules i get confused so fast. i seem to be better in hexagon at the moment and picking it up a bit quicker.

would it be possible to just start the base of it in hexagon, then load it in blender, then send it to daz?

Hi @Bunyip02 thank you for all the suggestions but I just cannot export Aikaterine in any way.
I always end up with the naked skeleton and nothing else.
Maybe it's me but the poser export does not seem to write files anywhere...
Only working option is Collada export: this takes Aikaterine mesh in Carrara with movable bones, but this is not a V4 anymore (body snatchers?) so does not take pose smorpsh, parameters, etc.
Guess I'll give up... unless Poser 9 (which I own) has some way to get around the problem

can you export her as an obj in DAZ studio and load her in as a morph, you should be able to reuse the slot allocated to her in the vertex room

or create a new morph in DAZ studio with morphloader

if keen use ExP exporter to create deltas to inject and remove

Since I use Face Transfer characters almost exclusively, I'm still G8-based and not all that interested in specific commercial figures. But I have bought a lot of G9 bundles when the price is right to get the bundle products.

I think you may have another morph getting dialed in. This is how Joan 9 HD loads and looks out of the box:

That would be a logical answer, but this is how it looks for me after starting DAZ and loading Joan, nothing else. The only shape morphs that are shown as active are "Joan 9 Body", "Joan 9 Head" and "Joan 9".

Try checking if there's a hidden corrective that's being applied.

    1. In the Parameters Tab, in the upper left corner, click on the hamburger icon (lines and arrow) > Preferences > Show Hidden Properties.
    2. Then select your character and look under "Currently Used".

EDIT: ... and there's something interesting: Joan 9 HD loads ok - with Eyebrows Card Style 6 and brown eyes. It's Joan 9 that looks angry with Card Style 5 and green eyes.

If you restart your machine do you get the same issue? I wonder if there is something sticking the experssion in a weird place.

Interesting idea, thanks! Just got back from work and tried again. Alas, no, she's still angry.

I just tried the brows ("Card Style 05") on Minerva, and they made her just as angry. Can anyone confirm that Joan uses these by default? Maybe there is something wrong in my file structure since other people don't seem to have this issue.

  • Newbie needing help with Aging Morph install

    Hi all,

I'm having the same issue even after following eponica instructions.

I installed Aging Morphs for Genesis 8 Male(s) via the Daz Central App like any other daz product. 8 body morphs are shown under this product in the Smart tab. I applied one of these to a Genesis 8 Male and nothing happend.

Under shaping>editor>Genesis 8 Male>Actor>Full Body and shaping>editor>Genesis 8 Male>Actor>Head none of the morph dials are present.

I then re-installed again via the Daz Central App and no luck.

I then did as eponica suggested and done a manual install of this 15996_AgingMorphsForGenesis_1.0_trx.exe from my daz account and again I dont see any of the morph dials.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong please?

    Many thanks

  • Changing teeth (shape) from one figure to another.

    jukingeo said:

I use this for individual control (placement, length, shape) of each tooth or to remedy issues that come from different head morphs. Rarestone's Face Morphs has overall teeth height (RS Teeth Height) and depth (RS Teeth depth) morphs.

I was more looking along the lines of changing the overall teeth shape and gaps.  While changing the teeth indiviually certainly would allow more detail, it just would be too tedious.  As I said above, I am fine with 'borrowing' the teeth from another character.  I do have the Rarestone 390 morphs, but sadly there are only the three adjustment for teeth and it is for the mouth's positioning of the teeth, such as front back / up down. There are no morphs for the shaping of the teeth.

The  SF Design teeth morph package has an upper global tooth width morph and a lower global tooth width morph that will remove gaps. I can't check now, but there may be global shaping morphs as well. The details on the product page look comprehensive though.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't find "Hollywood-type" females attractive, but rather plastic and fake looking. I'm not a fan of gobs of makeup, fake boobs, nose jobs, lip injections, Botox or anything like that. I'd rather populate my scenes with average looking people (tho I have done "glamour" images once in awhile...lol). So when someone says "attractive female" that can be anything really because it means different things to different people. I find average attractive. Realistic is attractive. I don't have a problem with Joan (tho, if they were going for Joan of Arc, then they're off on the age scale by at least 15 years ;)...lol).

Yeah, same. I have some implausibly flawless characters in my runtime and I have uses for them, but if 20-something boudoir shoot models with perfectly proportioned facial features were all I needed, I probably wouldn't collect many morphs at all. Most of the time, if I'm picking up a morph, it's because I want to add interesting character details.

I think Joan is attractive. The main promo render for Cliff is IMO one of the most attractive male character images on the site. I honestly just kind of skim characters that have idealized features unless there's something else arresting about them, and they're not just doing the default vacant sultry gaze with parted lips. A lot of it is probably that they're not real people, but they look like Barbies to me and have about the same amount of charisma and sex appeal (YMMV there also, but for me it's zero).

  • Genesis 8 or 8.1 shapes on genesis 9?

    I followed this tutorial...

And it seemed working, until I tried to move this character I had to convert from a my custom morph.
In these pictures I just opened the jaw, close a hand into a fist and bent an arm.
Have anyone a clue or an idea about what did I get wrong?

The rigging needs to be adjusted, at the moment the joint centres, around which the mesh bends, are outside the model. Edit>Figure>Rigging>Adjust Rigging to Shape should give a starting point, though it may need refinement, then you can use ERC Freeze to link the adjustments to the shape (as long as you haven't already used it on the shape as a cotnroller, in which case you will need to use ERC Bake in the Property Hierarchy context menu on the links to get rid of the earlier freeze).

  • Daz Studio Storing Morphs in wrong folder.

    jukingeo said:

Yes, and that therein lies a problem.  Without the formatting the text is all over the place and entries are hard to make out. Could I edit it in Wordpad and then put it in notepad to save it?

You can do whatever you want, not guaranteeing it will work nor be efficient. There are other basic text editors out there besides notepad.  Many people use Notepad++

As I said above, so you are thinking I am only having problem with a few morphs?  Well, guess again, it is more like 30 to 50.  So giving your example of a minuite per morph, I am looking at about 30 to 50 minutes per character...and that is also per scene as I do have characters that reoccur.   Granted, once I get a character fixed, I could save the body shape and then apply that to the character in subsequent scenes.   However, I do have a at least 200 (give or take) Genesis 8 female characters.

Oh no, not 30 minutes.  There will likely be recurring patterns with the paths for morphs and therefore should be able to just find & replace that portion for those with the same root path.
