dForce for victoria 4 clothing
hello everyone.
is it possible to apply dforce to a victoria 4 dress ?i added a dforce modifier, but the dress splits into many pieces, as if it was created by joining many meshes
Is there a maximally identical uv for genesis 1 and female 8?zeni1agent said:

there isn't one, the best one can do is use the geograft products by Cayman or transfer using vertex painting

if you have Autodesk Maya I believe you can transfer UV mapping but the surfaces between G1 and G8 are different
and for this the geometry(shape) should not match as much as possible?
and I didn't find the product for genesis 1 in the link you sent
I don't believe you'll find one. There is one for Genesis to Genesis 3:
https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-uvs-for-genesis
But I think that's as close as you'll get. You could do it in two steps, Genesis -> Genesis 3, then Genesis 3 -> Genesis 8.
Check which texture sets you're considering transferring and check in DAZ Studio which mapping they actually use. While there is a generic Genesis Male and Genesis Female UV set, I don't know how many Genesis characters actually used them. You might find that many of the characters for Genesis used either Victoria 4 or Micheal 4, and not the Genesis Male and Female UVs. Other than that, character creators tended to make their own UVs when their characters required it.Here's a list of the UVs available to my Genesis characters:
How to solve a random textures bug with Tara 2Hello,
I’m speaking about this product: https://www.daz3d.com/tara-2-hd-for-victoria-7-victoria-8
And I have a texture problem on the arms surfaces, mostly visible right at the limits between the body and the arms surfaces (the arms are slightly darker than the rest of her skin).
I first saw it recently, and looking back at various renders (like this one) I did with her I didn’t see any showing the problem (it’s pretty obvious so I think I would have seen it much sooner).
Render without the problem (created on the last public beta, on my Mac):

Render with the problem (created on the last public beta but on my Windows machine but I don't think it matters):

Both renders are made with the base character, as it’s loaded, with a dress, hairs and an HDRI loaded with some change on the tone-mapping settings (but it’s also visible with the default render settings).
The bug is only active on her human skin, not on her demon skin: if I’m loading her demon skin, no problem in sight, even on a scene with the problem on her human skin. Reloading the human skin shows the problem again. An example:

All this renders were done with the Genesis 8 version, but the problem is active on the Genesis 3 version too (I thought I did some renders but apparently, I forgot to save them, well, too bad but it’s the same problem on Genesis 3).
I now have two scene files: one with the bug active, one without it. Loading the bugged scene shows the bug, loading the non-bugged scene doesn’t show it, even when the scene are loaded back to back.
Merging the bugged scene while the non-bugged scene is loaded shows no sign of the bug and vice versa.
Here is what I also tested:
- Closing Daz and deleting temporary files. Sometime it worked (no bug), sometimes it didn’t, so it’s likely not the root of the problem.
- Reinstalling Tara 2 didn't solve the problem.
- Using the last General Release, but, like what I did in 1, sometime it did work, sometimes it didn’t.
- Reloading the scene doesn’t work at all: if a scene is saved without the bug, it’ll stay without the bug. Same if a scene is saved with the bug.
Sadly, that same rule (save without the bug means loading without the bug) doesn’t apply to character preset: I created one when I converted Tara 2 skin to PBR Skin, using Texture Booster, and I just tested that using it could lead to both outcomes: a non-bugged Tara or a bugged one. I don’t know yet if Personas are immune or not.
Regarding the use of beta or general release, I saw the problem happens on both on Mac and Windows so I don't think it's a problem related to the beta version.
I checked with other characters and I didn’t see any problem with them: even a character loaded in the same scene as a bugged Tara 2 didn’t exhibit the same problem (loading Tara 2 mats on them did show the problem on them too though).
If it’s useful, my setup is the following.
I’m using DIM on my Mac to download and install everything on it, then I transfer the packaged products download by DIM through my local network on my Windows machine on I’m now also using DIM to install them on it (in offline mode with a made-up account, because I don’t intend to go online with this machine).
Before doing that (no idea if it could be the cause of the problem), I simply synchronised ‘My DAZ 3D Library’ between the two computers, installing the product on my Mac then asked the Windows computer to update the metadata from within Daz Studio.
I changed the way I’m doing it because it could take half an hour to update the metadata on the Windows machine (I could ask it only to update products I just purchased, but there is no search function in the Reimport metadata UI so I would have to search each of them manually, which would likely take as much time after a big purchase).
If someone has an idea on how to solve that problem, I’m all ears, because I would like a lot to go back to the previous state of affairs: not having the bug happening.
March Madness is upon us - Talk about itOhh dear, hope it works out for you. I think all I did was apply the Uber shader to all the Dragon materials & not a lot else. I have another dragon image with the venerable Millenium Dragon (attached). The character riding this time is not V3 based Glamorous Vicki 3 (as in the green dragon version above) but G8F MDD Lyra . On this occasion I may have done something to create a decent normal map. I have the freebie program 'Materialize' and often create height maps from the texture and then use that to create Normal Maps. They add a surprising amount to relatively closeup images of older models.

Richard
converting v4 items to v8I've used SY's V3/M3 clones for G8F/M (https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-3-and-michael-3-clones-for-genesis-8) and they work well. It must be said that clothing has improved over the last 20 years or so and the old clothing itself tends not to look so great if there are any Generation 8/9 clothes in the scene too. To counteract the frequent lower mesh detail in the old clothes, a fair bit of texture work is often needed. However, it can be worth it.
Sometimes, too, it's worth using the old characters with updated shaders wearing their original (but updated) clothes. These are two V3 characters rendered in Iray (Glamorous Vicky 3 and GND2). The hair is G8F and G3F, but the clothing & shoes are all V3. The results could have been a lot worse.
It is also possible (but hard work and pretty complex) to create a TriAx version of V3, V4 etc that can wear clothes from the other generations (eg G3,G8 or G9). What is necessary to do is detailed in a tutorial here: Making a TriAx A3 character tutorial . Possibly not to be tried until you're happy with DS again, but may be useful to bear in mind for when you feel comfortable. It's actually only something I tried experimenting with because I wanted to keep my Favourite V3 character (GV3) in use & have a wider range of clothes, as not many clothes exist for her morph.

Richard
converting v4 items to v8This will enable you to autofit V4 clothes to G8:
https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-4-and-michael-4-clones-for-genesis-8
There's also a batch converter: https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-victoria-4-to-genesis-8-female
For the record, no automatic conversion process is perfect, some items will convert better than others.
Converting a G8F character to G9, help neededI used Figure Converter for Genesis 9 to get acceptable results transferring my G8.1F main character. Unfortunately, that product is only available as part of a Premier subscription. It only did the morph, and does not convert HD either. As far as skin goes, unless your most used character uses Victoria 8.1, Kala 8, Jada 8.1, or Clara 8.1 skin, then you will have to switch to a G9 skin. There is Legacy UVs, but I haven't used it yet, because except for a few exceptions I prefer G9 skin.

Elor Thank you!

Regarding the bloom - it's mostly done in Daz Studio for these two renders. For the first image I had bloom on medium high in DS, but upped it just a little bit and softened it in post. For the second image, all the bloom effects are from the DS render. (Since the bloom effects were pretty heavy already in the second render, especially due to the narrow DOF, I didn't do anything to that aspect in post.)
Otherwise, both images did go through a little bit of postwork - a bit of color grading and grain - only because I wanted the clean renders to have a little more of a gritty look.Your Hanoko render is very pretty! I also want to put the Old Kyoto set to use soon. And thank you so much for sharing about the freebie Yukata outfit! I was looking for a G9 kimono or yukata this week for my renders, since the G8 ones may give me some autofit/dForce troubles on G9.

Thank you for your explanation and your comment

If she went bare-hoof, she'd track mud about the house every time she came indoors, and that would just be silly. And steel shoes would scrape up the floor horribly.
(Ultimately, creature races being fully dressed is an established part of my setting; it helps establish the tone of the society.)
It does make sense

I will advise anyone using the Josie outfit to expand the top before simulation if you are bending the arms, as there is no adjustment at the elbow. I had to use Mesh Grabber to close the rather large hole on the right elbow.

Very nice render

Expanding the top didn't end in a wardrobe simulation malfunction ?

Looking for leggings/stockings for G8 female & G9If you decide you want to use the V3 ones, there's a product which enables you to autofit V3 clothes to G8: https://www.daz3d.com/sy-victoria-3-and-michael-3-clones-for-genesis-8
WW2 German uniforms requestThanks Richard.
This is Tannenbaum's "German Infantry V4" that I am currently converting using RSSY V4 to G8 clothing converter https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-clothing-converter-from-victoria-4-to-genesis-8-female. It is a first "draft" and there is a lot of issues. Lacking a G8 option, this may be my best bet.
what happened to genesis 6 and 7 characters? When they started Genesis they started new number series. Then when they reach Victoria 8, they aligned the Genesis numbering.
Victori 4 -
Victoria 5 - Genesis
Victoria 6 - Genesis 2
Victoria 7 - Genesis 3
Victoria 8 - Genesis 8
Victoria 9 - Genesis 9
what happened to genesis 6 and 7 characters?Anything you bought should be visible here:
https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files
In case you have forgotten, characters like Victoria 6, Michael 6 and so on were created for Genesis 2.
And characters Victoria 7, Michael 7 and so on were created for Genesis 3.
Then Daz jumped straight to Genesis 8 to reduce the confusion which means Victoria 8 was created for Genesis 8, etc.
what happened to genesis 6 and 7 characters? There never were any Genesis 6 an 7 figures. Daz jumped from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8. There were named 6 and 7 characters, like Victoria 6 and Victoria 7, but they were versions of Genesis 2 and Genesis 3. Very confusing! That is why Daz changed that method and made Victoria 8 a version of Genesis 8, so the numbers match.
Anybody recognize this character (Girl from Rita Hair)Good question. We will use different characters to render our products in the future. I hope you can recognize the correct result. Because that may use many different character deformers.

I gave a shot to create her and I think it came out okay. Not perfect, but it this version didn't take a lot of time. This one is a combination of Artemis and CJ's Mercia. She has Artemis's skin. In case you're curious, the morph percentages: 62% Base Feminine and Artemis and 38.6% Mercia. I didn't realize until I checked that changing the slider for Artemis also did the Base Feminine, so when I just changed Base Feminine to 100%, the lips became larger, but face a little smaller, so this result was the better of the two.
Sadly I don't have the hair, but this one is FeSoul's Alysa Hair. Funny enough, FeSoul almost always uses the G9 Daz Original models for the promo images. Never a question about who they are! In that one, it's Victoria and then an unmorphed G9 female.

Imo Daz should focus on ai tools that give users more control in rendering/postwork, integrated neatly into Daz Studio so it's super approachable. Like an ai render engine.
Something like a cloud hosted ai tune-up for Daz renders. Sends the albedo, normal and depth maps Daz Studio can already generate, along with a text prompt, into the cloud and applies a light dusting of realism or stylization or whatever. Users could buy content (even Daz's old pre-Iray stuff), assemble a scene, press a Cloud Ai Render button and get something shiny without needing complicated stable diffusion setup or a powerful GPU. Daz could make loras for its own characters so ai-Michael and ai-Victoria look good from any angle. etc.
....indeed AI tools for enhancing a render, adding depth or various effects would be more up my alley rather than generating an entire scene or a character.
Yellow is a great concept. You're basically modeling/sculpting with text, and it automatically applies the Daz rigging. But if it really took off, it could push users away from the shop, plus it doesn't solve the problem of Daz Iray or Filatoon needing to compete with ai render quality.
...I've been a visual artist all my life and I tend to "think" in that "mindset" instead of words when I develop a scene or design a character.. Hence my prompt writing tends to be rather lacking.

It would seem that generative AI is a direct threat to their business model as the majority of their users create still renders.
At this point AI can produce still renders of a quality that far exceeds what one can do with Daz content & Iray renders.
