Why does DAZ Studio customers like Conforming Cloths better then Dynamic Cloths ?
I decided to look for a a DVD collection of old cartoon series & saw the old TinTin cartoons and found out there was a 3D movie from 2011 of TinTin. Now that has a good look but it's sort of in between cartoon and real.
I don't know if they created those with DAZ Studio models or not, but it wouldn't be a fantastic surprise if that's at least where they started.
Even 10-person studios use their own custom rigs/models for too many technical reasons. Daz Studio is good for pre-viz though, especially now with iRay interactive.
Tintin style is more realistic than the Incredibles or Minions but still considered non-realistic. Its fabric and fluid behavior are also consistent with its chosen realism level
Realism Consistency (or INconsistency) is the biggest giveaway if a character is done by hobbyists in tools like Daz Studio and not by CG pros.
IRay physical amplifies the inconsistency between perfect-realistic skin against helmet hair, perfect glassy iris against cartoon-realisitc shape eyes, refined eyelashes against JARRING poorly bend hair strands.
Most hobbyists do not notice the discrepancy. But if you choose to do photorealism, then do realism consistently. In a time of Pixar flix and 3D gaming, audience these days instantly spot visual inconsistency.
Dynamic cloth sims can solve some mesh hair realism consistency problems. If used properly.
I plan to render something between Tintin and Minion level realism. No way I'll settle for hand morph dynamics. Happy to have dynamic sim options now!
DS users into "Photorealism Correctness" have no more excuses to render a single frame with bunched-up skirt crotch. Looking forward to seeing fewer lycra underboobs on cotton blouses! lol

Draping over and laying down cloths articuals/garmentsI was wondering how can you take cloths pieces and shape them like draped over on a chair or pants layed on a bed, like a figure took them off and is changing or cloths on the floor like in a messy teen's room?
The fastest and easiest way is using an external modeling program to morph them over the shape of the furniture. IF you use a modeling tool.
The second fastest way is to pose the clothes. It's the cheapest, but it's limited folding options, limited to conforming figures with bones, very fiddly, and produce typically unrealistic results.
The conventional way to drape clothing realistically over anything in any CG tools, is to use dynamic fabric control.
There are various dynamic cloth plugins that work inside Daz but they are not officially supported. I have responded to your post yesterday recommending that you google search two plugin names, unfortunately my OMG-super-criminal suggestion has been erased from highly moderate forum police action for totally light-hearted reasons.
If you are actually looking for realistic, professional draping solution, check out this forum post on dynamic cloth solutions (where you will find clues of the unmentionable names prohibited here!)
Cheers and good luck to composing your messy clothes on floor scene!
Daz Studio 4.5 PMD injection? There is a beta version of the InjectPMD plugin that does work in 4.x (mostly).
There is also a Java app that works nicely...
Keyra posted this in one of the other PMD threads.
This looks like a spam site now, or what?
Yeah, the site is down but it can still be downloaded from:
https://web.archive.org/web/20150402205051/http://www.kuroyumes-developmentzone.com/poser/freebies/
(though I couldn't get it to apply a pmd file meant for Sadie to Sam (so I ended up transfering the morphs with morph-follower for that). InjectPMD was great - but I lost the plugin so even though I've still got DS3, I can't use it.
virtual penny 4 yor carrara thoughts ?With Generation 4 or newer Daz3d figures, I feel this would be pretty easy. Generation 4 has seen the introduction of what Daz3d calls Morphforms, which are morph dials that control joint rotations and morphs together to create a unified look of the name of the dial.
I would use these to start with and see if I'd need anything special. The one to start with is Eyes SIde to Side.
At frame zero, set them to the left. I'm not sure if I'g go all the way left - probably not.
Then go to the end of the timeling and set it the same as above, but to the right.
Now I add an Oscillation or Noise tweener and test the results.
If it could use some help from Eyes Up Down, I'd introduce a little of that on those same two key frames and check again.
I think the main key ingrdient would be to set that tweener up at just the right speed and type of response.
G3F Teeth Shrink with Self-made MorphsIf the default shape will still fit in the mouth:
Add you morphs to favourites, by clicking the heart icon on the slider
Use the Geoemtry Editor tool to select the teeth (probably simplest by selecting their surface group in the Tool settinsg pane, then right-clicking and using (from memory, I'm rendiering) Convert Seelction>Convert to vertex Selection
Right-click again, Morph Editing>Removed seelcted deltas from favourites (again, I can't check the labels as I'm rendering but it should be findable).
Agreed this is a possible way to salvage the morphs. Also check if the navel is affected, and do the same for that area, and you must re-save the morph afterwards to save the changes.

G3F Teeth Shrink with Self-made MorphsThat looks like the mouth realism morph was on when you exported your base resolution g3f. Both the navel and mouth realism morphs load up on the default G3 characters, and you need to zero the figure, as opposed to just setting it to base res before export.
G3F Teeth Shrink with Self-made MorphsI wanted to make some custom morphs for my favorite character. The first morph I made combined a few dialed shape morphs (to overcome some weird clothing issues). I saved it out as a zero-level .obj file, dialed out the shaping morphs I no longer needed, and then used Morph Loader Pro to bring in the obj file as a morph. It works great. The next couple of morphs I made in Modo Indie, working on a G3F base mesh saved out as at zero level (this time, with no shaping presents applied). I made my first batch of changes, saved that as a new .obj, and brought it in. I thought it worked great, since the expression I was using had a closed mouth. Then I created a few new morphs, including one that manipulated the teeth slightly. When I opened the mouth to see the lips better, I realized something was wrong. In the attached images, the first one is the body morph only. The second one adds the facial morph (that doesn't do anything to the teeth), the third is the body is all three. the last image is one with all morphs dialed out (at first I didn't realize the body morph was changing the teeth, since the effect is smaller). Each new morph morph seems to shrink the teeth. How can I avoid this? I can survive without the teeth morph, but I'd really like to keep the facial morph. Can I isolate it so it only impact certain areas of the mesh (e.g., exclude the teeth)? Is there a solution the would allow me to modify the teeth and keep my morphs? Why should DAZ Studio User try Carrara? And, my first full render in Carrara 8.5 following PhilW's tutorial for loading V4, adding a character morph, clothes, hair, posing the figure and using Point At.
I'd be disappointed if this were a DAZ Render. I suspect I'll be spending most of my time in Studio still... but I can see the potential for Carrara, for sure.Donovan you might want to check this item out... DP Genesis 2 Females Carrara Shaders Collection which should be very good since it is by RingoMonfort who always has great products. Note that this is a bundle for ?all? G2 Figures and that you can get the shaders for only one or more separtely. I don't have it *yet*... missed it during the last big Carrara products sale.
PhilW's video tutorial covers skin shading very well. Be sure to what Dart's video also.
Transfer Utility crashes when used--rigging shoesSo I followed your process as far as I could--made the shoes an OBJ that fit G3F's feet, brought them in, and tried to run the transfer utility--as soon as I click accept, it crashes Studio. I even tried it on another computer, just to see if if was my machine, but same result. I'm befuddled.
Clothing shapes with Genesis 3 movementI appreciate the advice. I've been playing around with the initial part of the JCM process as you suggested, namely modifying the object in Blender in a certain pose. I'm having some trouble with the morph input back to Daz procedure.
I'll keep playing around with it, but I also do want to clarify; Is there no way to prevent polygons within Daz from deforming when the object is moved? Maybe another way to ask is there any way to keep vertices within an object at the same distance from eachother at all times? I keep reading about 'rigidity' as a thing but I can't seem to apply any of that in Daz. The geometry menu seems to be a good place to be looking.
Genx2 Exagerated MorphsI had this happen when I accidentally doubled up on the morphs -- there are two morph files, and the dial uses both. See if you can spot any duplicates.
Creating Morphs in a posed positionWhen all else fails, remember you can edit the V5 or V6 mesh directly. No morph. Just direct on the mesh. Go to View and unprotect the topology.
That's another great idea: rather than change the clothing, change the character. Thank you!
Still, to make changes in clothing (say make a skirt flare etc), it worked so well with the Gen 4 characters - is this functionality broken with Genesis and Genesis 2 characters?
How do I add two JCMs to the same bone? [Solved]* By myself, but I'm leaving it here if anyone else will run in to this - for some reason DS hides the parameter you added JCM to after you did it... No idea why. What you need to do is check "show hidden properties" that will show you the paramter you "lost" and than if you want the parameter to show anyway with it both checked and not you need to right click and un hide it. Just a DS oddity that can be really frustrating.
So I have a beaded neclece, as you can guess it deforms horribly when the Lower Neck is bend front-back or side-side, I understand that fixing it with JCMs is the way to go and I sucessfully attached the JCM N1 - it works perfectly - the lower neck bends to 40, the morph applies and the beads don't distort. The issue I'm having is that I than bend the neck the other way to - 40 and again it distorts. So I limit the first JCM to only be 0 to 100 and create and load the second correction morph - it works just fine... Except that I can't add it to the Lower Neck Side-Side bend - it is simply not there anyrmore... Hidden or something?
So how do I make one JCM applay when the bone is bend at 40 to 0 and the second to applay when it's at 0 to -40?
The Kids 4I picked up the bundle for "free" with the purchase of some cookie something for $3. Haven't done anything with it yet, but my plan was to convert the morphs to be used with Genesis figures with GenX2. This is old poser content, so I'm unsure exactly what you expected.- Greg
I'm not exactly sure myself when I purchased it, I was a complete newb, had never used poser, and simply needed characters older than toddlers but slightly younger than tweens, and The Kids was the only game in town. Provided you've got the right base model the Youth morph apps can work, with gen 2 and 3 figures, but the end results require a lot of tweaking. Still it would be really nice to have a character in that age range that you didn't have to go through so many technical gymnastics to get.
It really does seem that for what is basically marketed as an entry level 3d software program, a 3d novice is expected to have an awful lot of prior knowledge beforehand both about CGI and how the Daz program itself works.I hear ya, this stuff can be quite technical.
- Greg
Heard a rumor about V8"Genesis 3 was released so that it can be used in other commercial apps and game systems so that it's market does not only appeal to Studio users, thus greater usability. "
Forgive me but this oft repeated narrative can cause alot of confusion
There is another Game optimized version of the Genesis 3 figures
called the "MCS Male & Female."
https://www.morph3d.com/mcs-morph-character-systemThey come in a free "lite" version and a paid "Full" version
Those models are an attempt by DAZ's parent company
to sell the "one figure to rule them all" paradigm to the unity
game dev community. They are sold under a different license( Standard Unity License),
than the Genesis3 that is sold here to the still render community.Frankly the Genesis 3 ,sold here, is actually LESS compatible with other pro applications and requires twice the manual labor than Genesis1-2 to get genesis3 functional in other applications such as Autdoesk Maya& Iclone Pro.
on the matter of a potential new genesis 4,
I agree with those who have stated that it would need to offer radically improved abilities like a proper IK solver with usable foot contact for animation .Heard a rumor about V8So... When I said they weren't finished with Genesis 3 Figures, I thought about that and pull out a list of all of the Figures from Genesis 2 and Genesis 3; then I made a table ... and one thing lead to another.
So here is an Unoffical table of the Daz 3D Character's, there fore-family (If this works it will be so cool). It also shows the posibilities for Genesis 3 figures.

Did Hiro gene pool spawn Kenji 7? Is Gianni 6 and 7 the taking over for The Freak? Or is that Ivan? (He look a little scary to me.)
Josie came out before Michael, so is the Jayden on the bench some place or is Josie odd girl out, like Aiko 6 was with no Hiro 6?
Will David the Odd Take the stage or was he replaced by Leo or Scott. (He is the Odd because he only is release every odd generation)
And where is Victoria's little sister, Stephanie? Surely she wasn't sent to the Gallows?

Pretty much. I have my own list that I've been keeping track of, albeit a more simplified version of it:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_7-dyE9mH-Dd0FBZW5INFRxanM
But yeah, DAZ and PAs have pretty much confirmed that characters like David, Freak, and Hiro are done-with. Kenji is the spiritual successor to Hiro as characters like Gianni and Ivan are to Freak (with Gia and Rune doing the same for She Freak in that respect). I've actually very recently inquired DAZ_Steve about a Stephanie 7 and a David successor (which hasn't gotten a reply, no surprise). Either way, I'm quite confident that such is very well in the queue as Stephanie has yet to miss a Generation, and with this awesome trend of "Early-Month Female, Later-Month Male Counterpart" that's been going on, it's highly likely that she will indeed come with a David replacement. Though, if you look at the FBMs of some of the newer female stuff, there seems to be a "Sunny 7" coming soon, so a Stephanie 7/"David Successor" 7 might not happen until the end of this year or next. The older generation: Victoria 2/3, Michael 2/3 and their children rendersThat Spock morph is a really nice one and I agree with Kettu that your render feels like TOS.
Still fond of the older characters and use them from time to time.
*waves* Hi! =)
Hi! :) I particularly like your A3 picture; she's very pretty.
Non-realism can sometimes be exactly what I'm after. For example, a little fun with V2/Roxanne -- Naughty and Nice.
Transfer Utility crashes when used--rigging shoesTechnically speaking, there are two ways to do this, one of them not even requiring rigging at all.
So - your first option is to simply send the shoes into Hexagon or some other modeller. Split them into seperate objects, so you have Left Shoe and Right Shoe. Transfer that as a prop into DAZ. Now just position the feet into the shoes so it fits and parent the each shoe to each foot. You can lock the rest of the foot bones so they don't move. Technically speaking, the shoe should keep the foot in a stable position and only your ankle will move it. That kinda solves the problem without having to rig it.
The second option takes a bit more time. I'm kind of doing this from memory though so if the process fails - maybe someone will correct me. (Also, make sure you are doing the followign instructions on the BASE G3F model with no morphs applied)
1) Put the shoes in the scene without fitting them to G3F. Position the feet so they fit into the shoes as much as possible. Send the shoes and G3F into a modelling program like Hexagon. Make any corrections you need in there so the shoes perfectly fit on the feet (note, you do NO adjustments to the G3F model - only shoes).
2) Send the shoes back into DAZ as an .OBJ file or through Hexagon bridge.
3) Reset the pose on G3F or load a new G3F. Use Transfer Utility - select the source as G3F, Target as the Shoes. In Projection templates if available, choose shoes/boots. If the shoes have any form fitting parts (like a sock or some material that tightly follows the skin) make sure to apply a smoothing modifier in the advanced options.
4) Right now the Transfer Utility does its job and your shoes will look very screwy. That is intentional. Un-fit the shoes from G3F so they come back to their natural position.
5) Position the feet to fit into the shoes. Select G3F and then the Shoes together. Go to "Edit -> Figure -> Rigging -> Transfer Rigging (Figure Space)". If you check with the Joint Editor, the rig on the shoes should be in a similar position as the feet now. Now you can fit the shoes to G3F.
That should make it work I think.
I have some V4 shoes so once I return home I'll check if this process works. If I find a different solution I'll share it here.
