I wonder why I still feel something wrong... I wanted to create a red tunned atmosphere, but maybe it's a bit too much?

I would try to make the **red tunnel** more visible with a contrast. Maybe lighting?

And as a basic tip for "error" search in images: changing the view often helps (mirroring, rotating...).

  • how do people simulate broken bones?

Thank you both for giving it some thought. I'm really intrigued by this Fisio add-on that I hadn't seen before, although it won't help with the current project. (Do you know if it's just for animation? I don't do animation but I'd love to learn how to present stills of my objects as if in the midst of actions like those. I never did get the hang of... links, right? But this isn't the thread for teaching me about links.) I had done some searches online for how to illustrate my broken-bones question here in the thread. I must not be asking it quite right. The answers presuppose a different situation than I'm trying to get at. The internet search results only show me x-rays, for example, but if I add those here, folks might assume I'm looking for x-rays. I'm actually trying to illustrate someone with a serious injury in the absence of medical attention. It might help to imagine depicting a break that's only a couple of hours old, say... a thousand years ago.  I don't even really know what that looks like, despite all the broken bones I had as a kid. (No, it's not me in my scene. I'm only like 850-something.) cheeky

    Cybersox, SnowSultan:

Thanks for the acknowledgement. It helps to know I'm not the only one tuned in to the sporadic burst of negativity here.

I look back to that sense of community during the CV-19 period. Maybe that time was an exception, everyone being locked down an all; that what we see today is the baseline norm. Gosh, it's hard to fathom though how a handful of folks here have always been that negative. Today its nudity (the lack thereof or too much of it), hiking price of GPU, or generative AI. Makes me wonder what seeds planted today will blossom into tomorrow's gripes.

Early this year I read an interview of famous English actor.  In his youth his father, also accomplished on the stage, adviced him to accept life's insanity, that there's always some sort of  bedlam breaking out somewhere. Otherwise, if he didn't, then life would slowly grind him down. Food for thought.

Anyhow, I don't want to spam this thread. Talk of Genesis 10 is heating up and I really can't place a finger on all the passion people invest in it, for or against. When G10 comes out though, I'm sure it'll be something worth looking into. laugh

    Cheers!

Back in those days the Forum was abuzz with positive energy. Lots of people were sharing their renders; groups actively hosted thematic contests; people discussed tips and tutorials. There was a community vibe on the upswing. That's how I remembered things.

These days ... I don't doubt that the larger community is just as active, perhaps even more so. But my sense is that all of that positive energy has migrated elsewhere. What we're left here in the Forum, particularly the Commons, is scholeric and cantankerous. Sure there's always been snark and sarcasm here, but the ones I see now are backed by conviction, the sort that takes a no-retreat-no-surrender, take-no-prisoners-alive ethos.

I feel like this describes the entire world right now.

Also, I've been around so long that half the stuff in the store these days look like things that people used to give away in Rendo's Free Stuff. I'm glad that we have better figures and renderers now, but the community as a whole certainly isn't as enjoyable as it was back then.

If one ignores the entire V4 Vs. Genesis, Poser Vs. DS acrimony that literally split the userbase in half and caused an exodus of then long-time vendors and users from these climes, perhaps. I became really active around that time and the things going on these days seem pretty tame compared to some of the sniping and diatribes that went on back then.

There's a few about on the "other" sites, albeit with obscure names so they don't immediately show up in a search. Only came across them when I was looking for a certain type of bathroom environment .

    Perhaps a bathroom that isn't 30x40?

There are a few bathrooms of normal proportions, though they're usually found as part of an apartment set or some such, but yeah, you could fit a lot of apartments inside of many of the DAZ bathrooms, and even then they can have a lot of strange ommisions   I had a long running thread about how many of the toilets either had no seperate seats or didn't open at all. and I've often thought about starting one about all of the loft apartments where the stairs have no handrails.  Who would buy such a thing in real life?  DAZ archeitecture can be built on some really strange denial of things like building codes...

  • G9 rig-GNS(Pro) rigified animation export back into daz HELP PLEASE!??

Diffeomorphic can export animations in duf format directly from Blender. But you will have to use rigify or MHX that's the custom rig in Diffeomorphic. rig-GNS is a tool on its own and more for games and professional animation, which excludes DAZ.

To work with diffeo please read the documentation or search for tutorials on google, as there's plenty. But basically it's this.

    https://github.com/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki

    https://github.com/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki/Posing

    1. export from daz studio
    2. import in blender, with presets for each genesis generation as G3 G8 G9.
    3. convert to MHX
    4. animate
    5. export to duf format

p.s. To bake MHX use the MHX baking tools, not the blender tools.

    Cheers!

Easy for you to say, but there are folks on this board in far worse position than I am and this pricing issue is squeezing them right out of the game. It's not doing me any favors either.

As you surely know, 3d software drives a treadmill that constantly demands more powerful hardware over time. AI models clearly have the same hunger and the effects of that have been discussed here already.

You might consider that people really don't appreciate being told to do more with less, especially when the price of everything keeps going up and up. And the little smiley face does not make it more acceptable.

Good morning! Ohayou gozaimasu! Buongiorno! Magandang umaga! Bonjour!

Nothing like a good night's worth of sleep to rebuild that energy ... er, positve energy.

I'll have to take a rain check on this discussion for now. There are other folks in the Daz Forum I'm having an interesting conversation with. No, its not about the the smiley face laugh and whether the emoji is kosher or not. Let me reply to them first.

    Cheers!

Okay. The point you are trying to make doesn't seem to have anything to do with the one you quoted. I was confused by that.

They said that they thought there needed to be three base figures, on the premise a unisex base was not capable of being shaped accurately enough to do the things that the previous generation's split figures did.

I was demonstrating that the unisex base was capable of being shaped very closely to the previous generation of figures.

    Cybersox said:

No, in this example  what I'm talking about is the lack of specific pectoral bones for the positioning of female breasts.  [...] Maybe some people like that look, but with G8.1 and the previous figure generations this could be adjusted quickly on the fly simply by adjusting the bones [...]

G9's pectoral bones still exist, and the weights are pretty similar to the ones that existed on G8F, so I'm really not sure what you're saying here.

This has nothing to do with weitght maps and everything that is relevant to "physically" posing those parts of the figure with the mouse, not sliders.  It's buried somewhere in the documentation but I really don't feel like diging though that, so here's a google search result that reveals:

    [1]

    • The "Previous Generations" Rigging: In Genesis 3, 8, and 8.1, the default skeleton included dedicated pectoral (pec) bones. Users and animators could physically select and rotate these bones to simulate breast movement, gravity, or chest flexing.
    • The Genesis 9 Shift: With Genesis 9, Daz 3D transitioned to a unified, unisex base mesh and completely overhauled the rigging system. To optimize performance and streamline the base skeleton, they removed the individual movable pectoral/breast bones from the default rig. [1, 2, 3]
    • The Solution: Because the default skeleton omits these bones, chest and breast movement in Genesis 9 is primarily handled through morph shapes (sliders) rather than bone rotation. To get that bone-like pose control back, users have to rely on third-party scripts or official add-on utilities like the Breast Control for Genesis 9 package, which explicitly notes that it "does not rely on pectoral bones for movement". [1, 2]

That isn't in the linked thread, and isn't correct - Matt_Castle is right, Genseis 9 has pectoral bones

Okay... perhaps my teminology is incorrect, but if there's a page in the DAZ wiki that discusses this, then I have yet to find it, if it has even been published.  What I do know is that I get multiple responses that accurately convey the issues I'm experiencing, which is breasts that lack the greater range of seperated mobility, rotation, and compression/extension found with the earlier generation figures except when additional morph packs are added... although I'm now noting that most of them refer back to the readme page for Zev0's Breast Control, which is very specific about not using bones.  Would you disagree to the following query response:

"The primary difference between Genesis 9 and Genesis 8 breast rigging lies in the shift from gender-specific separate skeletons and dedicated pectoral/breast bones to a unified, androgynous base mesh that often relies on morph-driven or corrective-based soft tissue control rather than separate dedicated chest bone hierarchies. [1, 2]

Key Differences in Rigging and Structure

    • Unified vs. Split Skeleton: Genesis 8 features gender-separated figures with explicit bone structures tailored for male and female frames (totaling ~170 bones in G8 compared to Genesis 9's 138-bone unified skeleton). Genesis 9 uses a single unisex base figure where chest definition and breast volume are driven by shape morphs rather than distinct gender-specific bone setups. [1, 2, 3]
    • Bone vs. Morph/Pose Control: While Genesis 8 relied heavily on traditional joint rotation and localized bone weight mapping for chest and pectoral movement, many Genesis 9 workflows (such as Breast Control for Genesis 9) use advanced corrective blend shapes and dedicated pose morphs to handle gravity and deformation dynamically instead of depending purely on pectoral bone flexing. [1]"

I hope this smooth shader dressed character is safe for the forum. But This is a g9 figure with pectoral bones. (Forum won't show the animation.)

All of the Genesis models have pectoral bones.  It was one of the rigging improvements over the generation 4 characters.

This is the biggest problem with AI - it presents incorrect information as fact, with no regard to source.

I know. The animation is amusing as the two images flip back and forth with the two rigging moves in the two images: up left, low right.

Google's AI has either found, or completely made up, something entirely untrue. G9 absolutely still has pectoral bones, and they still function based on weightmaps, not morphs.

The G9 body has broadly the same weightmapped bones as G8F had - the names have changed, as has the exact hierarchy of the skeleton (the twist bones of the arms and legs are now branched off from a main bone, rather than being in the direct chain), and there's differences in the head, but you can match up body weightmaps more or less on a 1:1 basis between the two figures, with every G8 body weightmap having a similar and equivalent map/bone on G9.

Every version of Genesis has had pectoral bones, and I feel confident in saying that it's almost guaranteed that a hypothetical G10 would as well.

  • New Year, New Sales Thread: Report Issues Here 4 "Reporting Only"

Here is the text on the new DAZ+ releases - "Buy both Tuesday New Daz+ Releases to get an extra 30% off them" Well, it still isn't working. The two new DAZ+ releases from Tuesday still show as full release price of $5.59 with no additional discount. This discount has been active for a few years actually, so I'm confused why no one seeing it or something. Or why it doesn't work now all of a sudden.
Isn't anybody else having this problem or don;t most people give a crap about it? no one even mentioned it in the DAZ+ forum.
