  • Boom Chica Morphs Question

Reading the Details section, it seems like the product includes quite a few body morphs, but in the What's Included section, there's only one plus body morph mentioned? Seems like an oversight? Anyone know how many body morphs are actually included?

Edited to add: Looks like first promo states there are 10 body morphs. They just didn't make it into the What's Included section.

  • Same problem, same question What's better than Parent and pins?

I'm losing it over this and I hate losing HOURS reading fake manuals, bad youtube tutorials and OLD FORUM POSTS that do not help.

    Rant over.

I'm trying to PIN AN OBJECT TO ANOTHER - without it EVER MOVING. I want to WELD them together.

    NOT move with.

    NOT follow

NOT reach some kind of IK limit and start moving.

Transfer (insert word) will not work because it is a LINK in a chain and not the chain, itself. We need to get that ONE LINK to stay in place while the rest of the chain (not that link) still acts like a chain.

If I pull on it, it bends and pulls the other links along, but does NOT move that first link.

I tried parenting and it moves WITH the object, fine, but moving or changing the pose of chain eventually moves the "anchored" link.

A few other suggestion I read in old posts crashes my Daz 10.xxxx.

    ---------------

Sorry for the salt, but damn, sometimes the simplest things are almost impossible.
    Anyone have an idea?

  • If Daz would finally bring out Carrara 9...

    To clmoonriver: and all:

Save with local settings means you must have the same content in the library when you go to open X file later that was there when you saved it. The other option keeps all in the saved file itself, which makes it much larger, but then later your library content can be empty and the scene will still open fine. As to saving a preview, very handy to have a little thumbnail to remind you what it looked like.

What would I like to see in Carrara 9? I rather like it as it is. It SHOULD be able to work with ALL Genesis versions, withOUT having to buy some script somewhere, since DAZ wants us to buy their new stuff, and that should be a free upgrade, but I'm really ok with C8.5 as it is. Iray? Just another render machine requiring a whole new bunch of shaders to buy or spend hours building. I've had LuxRender plugged into Carrara for years, like it better. And Lux wants its own variations on shaders too, lol.

Before Iray, some DAZ Studio users used Octane, or was it Oxygen, I forgot. And Lux can be, or could be some time ago plugged into Studio. I am not complaining about Iray, just noting that other similar rendering machines have been around since 2005 or before, so I am not, was not all jazzed about yet another one. It seriously slows down production when we are pushed to every week seems like stop and learn new stuff that usually doesn't do anything the old stuff couldn't do.

Like Genesis 8 has better weight mapping and smoother joints than the old standard v4? Yeah, maybe, but there are morph packets (mostly made for Poser) that fix that joint problem nicely, and I'm sure the weight thing could be done too without needing a whole new system. I think if we are half decent artists we could make our own joint smoothing morphs, and I get on fine with Carrara posing. Do like that Puppetter gizmo in Studio though.

Would be nice if Carrara could save poses as easily as Studio and Poser, but Fenric made us a neato script for that already.

What I do NOT want to see in a new Carrara version is, insert drum roll here, Dear DAZ do not muff up my super fast rendering!!!!! Some of us animate 1920 screens @ 30 frames per second, and have NO patience for like Studio needing how long??? per frame. And Carrara can do those HD frames in less than a minute each with beautiful lighting, multiple lights, with out a serious graphics gaming machine, nor an array of cuda cores. Curiouser and curiouser.

And now a note to the many people who have trouble with Hexagon crashing. The only thing I find wrong with Hex is there is no spinning icon telling you to wait a few seconds it is matriculating, so people type in another command too soon, and it stalls because it is busy, so another frustrated keystroke, and it overwhelms and crashes. The cure - just KNOW that Hex needs a few seconds especially on more complicated vetice commands, and don't hammer the thing.

My overall opinion is - and stop here if you're easily offended!!! We don't need newer smarter software all the time. We need to learn, practice, and become seriously proficient with what we've already got. The Dreamlight guy did a totally excellent and very real looking car scene animation many years ago with Studio 3. Perfect motion on the car, beautiful lighting. Fuzzy memory you know, I don't recall the year but most of us did not even have 64 bit machines back when. Not sure if Studio itself was 64 bit yet. Just one example.

The trouble with sending a wishlist to software designers is we're likely to get a bunch of stuff we don't need, and find that our favourite things no longer work. Of course if we have 6 months of patience they will sell us new stuff that does what the old stuff did. So I vote there never is a Carrara 9. Ciao Babies - R

If you turn subdivision on the shirt off you can see that the vertex points are in exactly the same spot on the shirt and add on - using the transfer utility you conform the add on to the shirt and set it as a dynamic surface add-on.

  • Lorelei Mertail on G3?

You shouldn't use Autofit with something like a mertail that has a bunch of custom bones or structures; Autofit removes them, by design.

You can try using Transfer Utility instead -- it has options that will let you retain the custom bones, and then you'll need to save off as a figure/prop -- but anything that hides the legs automatically, the way that a mertail must, may not work properly across those particular generations. The leg structure is different between Genesis 2 and Genesis 3.

The LAMH plugin will not create LAMH Catalyst compatible hair. All LAMH Catalyst compatible hair that you have seen was created by Alessandro. I have inquired to the LAMH team several times whether LAMH will be updated to create LAMH Catalyst compatible hair but have never received a reply.

So that means if you want to iRay render LAMH hair you create you have no choice but to export it as a series of objects in the different poses you will need and than create create morph targets in DAZ Studio. As it is so easy to get so many polygon faces quickly with LAMH you are likely to run into trouble quickly.

  • Genesis 8, is it Enough?

I have not moved to G8 yet. I still work with G2 with gene pools from Generation3 and Genesis 3. I can tell you, I will eventually move to G8. The commecial products I've seen with G8 are a huge improvement in the facial features over previous generations. However, the move is just not feasible for me money wise at this time..

I agree that there are some high quality characters coming out for G8 and I only wish it were possible to transfer some of those characteristics between generations. However, even if the process discussed in threads in this forum for transferring morphs between G3 and G8 (and vice-versa) is effective, I believe that the high quality comes, in part, from the HD sculpting on these new models and that HD is not transferrable. At least that is my understanding, please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Facegen 2.0 Released- Now 2.1

    You need to

    0) If you created the FaceGen morph while the instance of DAZ Studio you ae using is still running you need to exit DAZ Studio & start DAZ Studio again

    1) Load G8F

    2) Click the Shapes Tab

    3) Click the subitem called Head & expand the entries under it.

    4) Look until you come to a listing called Real World expand that

    5) You should seen FaceGen item and listed as the name you gave it when you saved the FaceGen item in FaceGen in the export dialogue*

    * You should note that you can change the category when you export it from FaceGen to DAZ to be something different and if you did then that FaceGen morph will be found in DAZ Studio under that category instead.

  • Facegen 2.0 Released- Now 2.1

As long as you exported as a gen 8 female it should already be there. Under the shaping tab - head then just scroll until you find what ever it is you named your morph.  The bar color will be gray, if you have a lot of characters sometimes knowing the color helps. :)

Thank you, @vwrangler.  I had created a custom morph fr the face.  For some reason, the "! Face Age Controller".dsf  file had also gotten copied to the location of my custom morph.  Manually deleting the file has eliminated the duplicate file errors.  Two thumbs up.  yesyes

Now I am getting a database error, although the databases appear to be working.

  • Duplicate formula error warning loading G8M

Well, I'm still getting the error.

I've used DIm to install everything from Daz.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled genesis 8 male starter esentials and the zevo morph pack in the error log.  Yet, I'm still getting the duplicate error for genesis 8 male (no other figure at the moment).

I am going to cross my fingers and try @vwrangler's suggestion to delete the ! face age controler.dsf

The Daz help site says it is not catastrophic within Studio.  Here is the info page from help.

  • New Cat?

The HW3d kitten lacks the proportions you would typically see in a true kitten, so it kinda looks more like a scaled down adult HW3D housecat. The paws and head need to be larger, the tail shorter, maybe pudgier limbs.

As long as the Cat8 fixes the weird hip mesh distortions the MilCat suffers from when it sits or contorts its hind quarters in any way, i'll be happy. I always have to angle my camera in such a manner as to hide its nether regions in extreme poses. Other than that issue, still looks good in both 3delight and iray. I used the kitten morph from sharecg (with a few tweaks) in the january new user challenge.

If its not too much trouble for the creators who might be working on Cat8, can we please get a MilCat UV to recycle old textures? I'm willing to pay the extra costs for the effort put into it. I'd really appreciate it.

I am having fun with Zbrush and decided to start a hairy art thread so others can share too

Carrara also has a dynamic hair to mesh plugin thanks to Philemo and of course there is LAMH, Garibaldi and Blender particle hair to be had

so all can join in and share their creations and experiments too

    and any suggestions

my new realization zero length best for using the transfer utility then adding length with morphloader works with Zbrush Fibermesh and Carrara hair exports

  • Creating clothing morphs for scaled figures?

Oh. DUH. There it is LOL

    Left: The default outfit.

Center: After adjusting the scaled and translated Monique morph to fit Monique.

Right: After using MLP to create a "Make Unique" morph (since the auto fit ones are not in my clothing I want to use the ones I cleaned up). But because I scaled and positioned the morphs that were exported from DS, it doesn't fit inside DS.

  • Creating clothing morphs for scaled figures?

Another "newbie DAZ Rigging" question here.

I'm prepping a product for submission and am in the final stages of trying to clean up auto-generated FBMs. But I'm running across an issue that I quite don't know how to address.  I've seen this appear on morphs that I've created for Monique, Olympia, Stephanie, Teen Josie, Girl, and Sahel (All G8 figures, all seem to have scaled body parts, so I think this problem relates to scaling.

    So here's what I do ...

    1) Load the freshly-saved to library clothing onto the default Genesis 8. Fit to figure.

    2) Dial the desired FBM into Genesis 8. The auto-morph shape is dialed in.

    3) Try to GoZ to ZBrush. I have one of two problems quite often. Either not everything in the scene shows up, or the clothing items are translated and/or scaled differently when they are loaded in ZBrush.

    4) So for the workaround, I hide everything except the clothing item that I want to export as OBJ.  When I open it up in my modeler, I see that it, too, is translated or scaled differently than in the DS scene. The shape itself is correct, but it might be 105% scale, and raised up. So I position and scale it properly to fit the figure (which has also been exported as a morph).

    5) After cleaning up all the morphs that need cleaning up, I then save the clothing morphs in the correct size and position.  I load in a "clean" clothing file from the library, and create the morphs fresh and new (Make Unique) instead of adding deltas to the auto-generated ones.

    6) Then I dial the character in. Now, with my "cleaned up" morph, the clothing again doesn't fit. Because I scaled and repositioned in my modeler, now the clothing is smaller than it should be.

I must be missing something somewhere regarding creating clothing morphs that have scaled body parts. I thought the loaded morph would automatically adjust for the scaling, but it's seeming like that is not happening.

I'm not sure how to attach an image, otherwise I would add one. 8-)

  • OT -- Weird epic dream I had about the future of Daz

...interesting,  I saw a video once of a prototype virtual 3D system that effectively let you "walk" into and around your scenes. You could pose/morph your figures and move props with your "hands" & "fingers", change clothing, textures, lighting etc. by calling up  a virtual menu and selecting what you wanted position aim lighting by simply selecting and gesturing.  Everything was also in rich texture mode.

Still very much in the development stage, probably ghastly expensive (and for now likely requires at least a mini supercomputer to run as it is highly resource intensive), but I give it maybe another decade.

That sounds a lot like VR. I'm hoping soon we can use gloves instead of controls in VR and use programs like DS or Photoshop in VR!

  • Transfer Utility Problem

I guess in the Transfer Utility you had activated the transfer Face Groups option, have a look at them in the Geomerty Editor. If the head group is eventualy a big mess of polygons, you could revert back to the originals that come from 3ds max or you have to fix them in Daz Studio.

Once you have propper face groups for selection like the whole head, switch over to the Node Weight Map brush tool where you can use the Fill Selected action to fill the weightmap with 100% for the selected bone and map.

Next I would press Ctrl+ Grow Selection a few times and use the action Smooth Selected to get a smooth transition to the neck.

Panting weights with the brush option Respect Selected at the bottom of Tools Settings pane can help while panting and smoothing just in the area of the selected polygons.
