    Thanks Cholole

The ad for that says it includes Michael 4 shape Morph and Victoria4 shape Morph

So by buying this product at 13.97 I effectively get Michael 4 and Victoria 4 ?

  • newbie buying query

I'm a little confused about what is need as a foundation when buying products.

For instance p3d Tom is a character for Michael 4 makes sense.

However, it goes on to say "as well as Genesis with M4 Shapes"

I have the free genesis essentials - do I need to buy Michael 4 to get tom to work?

    thanks

  • Content confusion lot's of questions

    awesomefb said:
Hi, my last question for now. If I decided to purchase content from Daz store or download freebies, how do I know which content works for Genesis model ?? I've read many posts, and still do not understand the concept of Genesis, V4, Victoria 5, M5, A5 etc..... Will Victoria4 or 5 fashion work with Genesis? I'm grasping the concept of parent. Will earlier version content work with Genesis ?

Really trying to learn Daz, but limited without purchasing a ton of content from store.

Can I create my own model out of Genesis using morph and save model I created ?

I have photoshop CS2, can I change colors, create my own fashion, etc..... I also have Bryce 5 and Poser 4, been awhile since I, did any 3D modeling. Gave up on it, till I came across Daz.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Lots of questions. Let's see if I can't break it down a little for you.

    1) Victoria 4 / Michael 4 / Kids 4 skins all work on Genesis. You have to change the UV set in the surfaces tab to accommodate some of them, but they work. You can find this under "UV set" on the Surfaces tab. Click the highest level in the list (Genesis) to highlight all material groups before setting this value so you can change them all at once.

    2) Content which works for Genesis will say under "Required products" Genesis. There are special characters available for Genesis which you might have to watch out for. Those are Victoria 5, Michael 5, Aiko 5, Hiro 5, Stephanie 5, Freak 5 and likely others. Those use their own unique UV sets, and some items you buy will require one of them to function correctly. Some skins require the UV sets from those characters, so they won't look right without having the precursor first.

If a character requires any of these it should state so on the description somewhere. Either under "Related Products: Stephanie 5", for example, or in the box at the bottom where it lists the product specifics.

    3) Outfits for Victoria, Michael and Kids 4 will work on Genesis to a point, but might not fit perfectly. Notable troubles include skirts, dresses and footwear. Most pants and tops will autofit well to Genesis.

    4) If you create a morph you can save it by going to file -> Save As -> Support Asset -> Morph Asset. This should give you a nice morph you can reload as often as you want.

    5) Photoshop is not a 3D modeling program, and nor is Poser or Daz Studio really. You can do some modeling using Daz and Poser, but not to the same degree as a program like Hexagon, 3D Studio Max or Blender. In order to make outfits you'll need to be able to work fully in 3D, so if you want to go that route you should look into getting a 3D modeling software. Blender is free software, so it might be worth taking the time to learn how to use it.

    6) Welcome to Daz!

  • Products For Victoria/Michael 5 For Genesis Based On Existing Products For Victoria/Michael 4

Okay, so I am a newbie to the 3D modelling world. Just a bit of background - In my day I have been an Aero Engineer, Businessman, Financial Industry systems architect (including datawarehousing) along with having done some screenwriting and comic book production (private runs of "fanzines") to feed my "artistic" side.

I am really impressed with the plethora of products out there for the Victoria 4 and Micheal 4 base models. However I see that the Victoria 5 and Michael 5 for Genesis models lack the same breadth of products. Take clothing by Pretty3D for instance. Really great mature stuff imho.

As I have been on something of a buying spree to kickstart a 3D illustrated/animated story, I bought a product called "V4 and M4 Shapes for Genesis" in the hope that this might allow me to tap into the Victoria 4 and Michael 4 products base.

    Two questions.

    1) I was wondering if there was any concerted effort among the artist community at large to migrate their products to the new Genesis base model?

2a) Is there a way to use the Victoria 4 products with the Victoria 5 for Genesis model ?
2b) What is needed if what I mentioned above is not enough?

    Thanks.

    Hi!

I'm interested in animation, so I began to do the adaptation of the default motions of Marvelous Designer to DAZ and Poser characters.
Now you can download my BVH catwalk file for Michael 4 from the MD official forum.
Tomorrow I will be able to publish BVH for Victoria 4. Now video - animation from DAZ here

And I think Tim Hunter here is wearing the old M4 Classic Trench Coat (formerly available at Renderosity), I'm just going off of the crazy big button holes on the lapels.

I bet that Constantine wears your trench coat

    http://ifanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/JLDARK.jpg

I think his hair is either Wildmane or Billyhawk.

Mindwarp's got the Hardcore jacket on.

EDIT: Constantine's coat is actually from Midnight Hunter.

Most of the other stuff is recognizable. I'm actually pretty ridiculously happy to see this. I'd be willing to bet a couple of those images in the lineup are almost straight renders.

  • Looking for a Paw Morph for Michael 4

I doubt there is one but I thought I'd ask just in case. I want to do a werewolf character and I want to put Paws on the figure rather than have the human feet with claws. I know there's Creature legs for M4 but I don't want to use them because they are digitigrade and I want to have the wolf man plantigrade so I can put torn pants on him. I've been looking around but haven't come across anything yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • HU - little change for the Free items

When I first started to dabble in 3D it was with Poser 5. I then found Victoria 4 and Michael 4 as free base version avatars at Daz3D. The story going around was they were the most supported avatars on the internet (V4 in particular). I thought V4 was so superior to the female avatar in poser 5, she became my main female avatar with M4 as her support figure.

At that time and for a long time after, I thought Daz3D had the perfect business plan. Supply V4 and M4 base figures free and reap the rewards with "value added products". Because V4 and M4 were free and worked in multiple applications content providers saw a growing market for their products. This resulted in V4 being the most widely supported avatar across multiple platforms.

Daz3D had a unique business plan. In the world of commerce you need to have a unique product that is required or a unique business plan to succeed. Daz3D had this. Added to the free avatars, Daz3D also had a weekly freebie and a freebie archive (if you could find it). This gave the newbie a free taste and I am sure fostered future purchases. For example, V4 base figure was a free download so the potential customer could check how good she was compared to the competition, and would then buy Morphs ++, then hair then maybe clothes etc. All good and according to plan.

Unfortunately, something has gone wrong. The business plan is still valid and unique. I would hazard a guess and say it was in the marketing area. Daz3D was not able to attract enough vendors to sustain or meet expected profits.

I am concerned the recent changes, starting back when V4 etc. ceased being free, have resulted in the "baby being thrown out with the bathwater".

As an addendum, I have recently purchased Poser Pro 2012. I do like Genesis. I think it will revolutionise 3D for the next period of time (once Daz3D sort out the issue of animation). So I am re-learning Poser and moving further away for Daz3D. Might I suggest that Daz3D look at making a high poly Genesis, without the need for Subdivision levels for animation and a (current) version that uses subdivision. This would be like Poser, supplying a high resolution avatar and a low resolution avatar.

I bought http://www.daz3d.com/crista-hair thinking it would work with DAZ Studio Pro 4.5 as it said it works for Michael/Victoria, etc. Obviously I was wrong! I can't afford Carerra right now. Where can I find a product for DAZ, like wigs, etc. Am especially interested in longer men's hair for ancient scenes.

Also, I purchased Stefan for M4 and Genesis but when I try to open him I get a message that the below info is missing. So what is missing?

    /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Morphs/DAZ 3D/Michael 4/FBMMichael4.dsf

It's probably me.... where can I get hair and how to I fix Stefan?

    Cheers, Silene

For Stefan, if you want to use him on Genesis and don't yet own the V4 and M4 Shapes that Jaderail mentioned, what you'll want to do is:

    1. Load Genesis Basic Male
    2. Load Stefan's skin texture (you can find the various options in Smart Content: Materials>Masculine>Stefan for M4, or in the Content Library within Poser Formats: Pose>Phoenix1966>Stefan.
    3. Go to the Shaping tab (or the Parameters tab) and dial Stefan Head to 1.00.

Without the M4 shape he won't look exactly as intended, but he's still very usable when applied to Genesis Basic Male. Stefan is one of the first characters I bought from the store (I didn't own the M4 shape at the time) and he's still one of my favorites.

    460 - Daiquiri Dress for V4

Um, does the fact that this pull is pretty much an April Fool's joke all by itself count?
    Okay, I can do this....

This one turned out to be a real shrieking beast! I managed to bring both Poser and DAZ Studio to their knees (actually, my whole damn system - it went into a freakin' coma!
Finally, after scaling it back quite a bit (deleted a David, a Michael 3 RR, a Victoria 3 RR, and a Michael 4, and a lot of the Dream Home set), I was able to get it to render. Didn't do anything fancy with the lights, 'cause I didn't want to push my luck!
    Anyway....
    Also Used:
    Easy Environment - Greenlands (Skybox)
Dream Home: Foyer and Living Room (Hey, I had to put the furniture somewhere!)
    Jess for V4/SP4
Andy Hair (Man, what is it with me and Andy Hair!?)
    Alahna for V4
    Demona for V4
    Melody Hair
    M4 Tuxedo
    Troy for M4 (Head Morph)
    Qain Hair
    Notorious for M4 (RDNA)
    Rock Star Hair
Pharaohs of the Sun for V4 (w Gala texture)
Andy Hair (Again! Not as bad as showing up wearing the same outfit - but close!)

No, not by default. Genesis Generation X is a product that will allow you to do this.

Michael 4 skin textures, though, do work on Genesis (including Michael 5).

  • texture problem

    Hi,

In the following picture I've loaded Michael 4 and changed its skin material to that of stone/plaster as to give it the appearance of a petrified statue; I added to the figure a Roman Tunic and again changed its texture material to the same stone/plaster appearance.

For some reasons I don't understand the new texture which shows perfectly on Michael4 body , doesn't appear on the tunic which keeps
its original color of gold! For info I'm using DAZ Studio Pro 4.5.

Anyone can explain and help me solve this problem. Thanks in advance

  • Orc and Goblin Hordes M4 - injection problems

I just went to use the Orc Horde M4 and Goblin Horde M4 in Poser Pro 2012 today, and the injections for the head shapes won't apply to M4. The bodyshapes seem to apply correctly, and the MATS, but not the heads.

I have tried extracting the files from the .zip file again, just in case there were some files that are missing, but nothing has changed.

I have both the Orc and Goblin horde installed in Poser's main content directory, as well as my external runtime, and neither locations work.

I also have the required content, Michael 4 Creature Creator Morphs and Michael 4 Morphs++, installed so that isn't a problem.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any suggestions of what the problem could be?

  • Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures

Whew... I have just taken a day of my vacation, and slogged through all 20 pages of this thread plus the other two short threads about celebrity morphs. (This is definitely the main thread, BTW.)

I've gone through the links (it looks like we never did figure out who Adam Thwaites' "V4 Celebrity Series EVOLUTION: No.10" is supposed to be), sorted them, and weeded out the dead links and the duplicates.

Then I added a few that I knew about that hadn't yet been mentioned (including Reby Sky).

And after all that, I still didn't find what I was looking for... So that all my work wasn't in vain, here's the consolidated list of links I came up with. (tsarist, feel free to steal this work and put it on page 1, if you want to change the format of the list. I don't plan to do this again.) I love these! Instant buy. It's so hard to find morphs with single-lidded eyes and these are just beautiful.

Also my son and I watch a lot of Psy videos together so I got a chuckle from the title :)

LOL yes it does have a bit of a Korean influence (Super Junior is one of my favorites) and was hoping someone would get a chuckle out of it as well. Thank you so much for the compliments and support :)

Very nice. What texture did you use in the promo shots?

The texture used for them was the Michael 4 Elite Lee set. Thanks so much for the compliments :)

  • Help with Installing/Loading Stolz the Younger, I'm doing something wrong

    Hi scullygirl818,

I don't own this character (yet) so I can't help with some of these questions, but I'll try to clear up some of the definitions, anyway.

HSS is the Elite Human Surface Shader, which is included with DAZ Studio. Shaders affect the way light reacts with a surface, and the Elite Human Surface Shader is one of the better options for DAZ Studio as far as realistic skin is concerned.

SSS is Sub-Surface Scattering. It means the way that some things (like skin) are somewhat translucent, and when light shines on the surface, it will scatter under the surface, illuminating some of the inside. In terms of 3D rendering, a skin texture with SSS will probably look somewhat more realistic than one without. Both DAZ Studio and Poser can do SSS, but (I think) when you see a product advertised as having an SSS option, it usually means for use in recent versions of Poser. If you want to use subsurface scattering in DAZ Studio, the texture should have materials settings that make use of the Elite Human Surface Shader (EHSS or HSS) or the Ubersurface shader.

So SSS and HSS are not the same thing, but they are related in that HSS lets you use sub-surface scattering in DAZ Studio.

The issue of the texture not being lined up right: not sure if this is what is happening here, but usually that's due to Genesis using the wrong UV set. Are you using this character in Poser, or DAZ Studio? If DAZ Studio, select Genesis, go to the Surfaces tab, select Genesis again in that tab, find the UV Set dropdown from the list of options, and set it to Michael 4. If Poser, I know there's a handy UV-switching tool for Poser available at mec4d.com, but I'm not personally familiar with the process.

You can find documentation on Stolz here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/15498/start
and Stolz the Younger here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/15503/start

If you're still having trouble getting the character to install and/or load properly, let us know what process you're using and we may be able to point out where the issue is (as I said, I don't have Stolz yet, but I do have some other phoenix1966 characters, and I assume Stolz probably works in a similar way). Alternatively, you may wish to contact the artist (phoenix1966) via PM.
